Satanasaint, in the spirit of being a person who has received advice and help from this man, as a dude that has met this man personally and has seen his work firsthand, I would just like to say three words: Where's your chit?
you got a very stylish art and i can identify your drawings from the smallest drawings...
don't be let down for people who see resemblance... but there is a small ammount of ways to draw women (and anything else) that we're bound to draw like someone from time to time... this only suggest your what was your influence and nothing else
In response to his techniques. I've never said anything about his sketches of it being poorly drawn. He has great sense of proportion and very clean and presice with his lines. I've never said anything about him tracing either. It's obvious that he draws from his head and that again that they are great. I love drawing. I love drawing comic book characters. It's been a dream of mine to someday draw along side my idols. Never would I disrespect another artist such as Pat with harmfull intentions.
to come up with a style that has not been seen yet and in order to get that point you have to copy minute details of someone elses style and incorporate into yours until you've morphed it into something original...something new. I myself isn't there yet. That was practically all I was saying. If Pat really believes that he has already reached that, then the best to him and MY OPINION SHOULDN'T MATTER.
The first thing I thought about when I saw this video was mostly JSC. But I also saw different styles; I saw Hughes, MAD!, Disney style drawings and maybe a little of Terry Dodsons style. But see there is nothing wrong with that it's just part of the process I think no matter how much time you've spent practicing because I'm exactly the same way. I have an influence in Jim Lee, Hughes, Leinil yu, Travis Charest, and a lot more into my drawing style to this day. My main take on this is....Cont.
If you´re so serious and coreageous enough to speak with art school quotations and such, at least give some serious thought into it.
You speak of criticism, I didn´t see you commenting on his technique, proportions or variety in experimental designs.
You can see that all his fav hags can live in the same page as his divas and they can easily blend due to his smooth curves and bold outlines, with a flow that is animation worthy and highly stylized.
I feel he´s more influenced by animation, as his lines and shapes remind me of the ones disney classic animators use.
I don´t think this sketchbook video was done encouraging a critique, I see it more as promotional material, letting us know what he´s been up to and how he´s evolved.
Given this is a video site, I´d say it´s a nice montage, with appropiate music, more personal as the artist himself shows us first hand what he does.
He´s basically pulling his chest open and showing us his heart.
Now, again, if you want to give some critique on his work, do it on the deviantart site, since it was originally meant for that. And you could also upload your works there too if you feel like you could use some help from other artists like the one you´re giving here.
I've never intended to disrespect him in anyway nor would have expected such a wide reaction from it. I guess the problem lies when I said "COPYING" instead of being "influenced". I see the Disney parts on some of his sketches because it shows and so does his big influence on JSC. On top of that, it wasn't like I was comparing him to an unkown artist. Like I said, I respect his ability and his dedication to the art it's just that the first thing that went into....CONT.
"I don´t think you´re copying their style but I must admint I´ve noticed your art is slightly influenced on Campbell´s art ( I dunno about Mad ), but still your style has your own personal touch. And yes I believe we ALL are influenced in our styles by somebody else´s, even if we can´t accept it."
I may have went overboard by saying "COPYING" because you never copy someone elses work unless you trace it. It will always be different. This is what I was trying to say and this guy on Pat's DA page comment said: (next comment)
one last thing I want to say to everybody. Criticism is a bitch sometimes but it's up to you whether you want to take it in possitively or negatively. If you can't take criticism then, you guys shouldn't put your work up on the net. I'm not trying to be a dick or anything but at the same time, it's just the honest truth.
I just want to make a direct apology to Pat. Innerpeace1979 said to check out your page and I did!! Saw your personal input about what I said. You do make amazing work. And everybody's right. You're farther in the same goal as I am so I shouldn't be the one giving you the advice or talking for that matter, it should be the other way around. I didn't really mean anything bad by it. That wasn't my intention. My sencere apologies to you Pat Carlucci.
I saw this short film about art in general in one of my art classes that I have taken and I got a really good tip from it. They said, "Cannibalize the world."
I totally respect his work and dedication and I know that it's never the same when you branch off of someone. I appologize if I had made it seem otherwise. That's just what I saw immediately in the video. Which is ok because that's how I started; I think that's how everybody starts though. You find someone you admire...you copy...then you make it your own. That goes with any form of art. Keep up the good work Pat, you trully do good work! Hell, u'r better at drawing girls than I am.
Pat has his own style maybe you're to blind to see it, or maybe you're not an artist or a lover of art. Any which way Pat's technique is unique so go get your eyes check in the meantime.

satanasaint, I know you didn't mean it entirly bad, but taking time to reflect on what you're about to write may pay off more than not...btw, check pat's gallery at deviantart and you'll see how he's developped his own "thing" apart from j.s.c. mad or whoever you could possibly think of...
I haven't seen a lot of his work but I didn't mean anything bad by it at all or is a personal attack on Pat about his work. If he has found his own style already then that's fine. I myself is an artist and I don't have the best work in the world and some might even say that it looks like a watered down morphed Jim Lee, Leinil yu and Silvestri piece. I'm still learning myself and still haven't found my own style yet. That's my whole point. I was merely giving an advice. From an artist to another

it's great n all copying other peoples styles to learn but you might wanna drift away from that a little to make it your own not unless you want to be just a copy cat of S. Campbell and MAD! Other than that...good work.
Similarities will always exist within the constraints of a given genre (comicbook in this case) - I would would suggest that to be an axiom. Critiques based on said similarities are about as relevant as despairing the similar pacing of two romance novels or the identical lighting of two noir films.
Might as well crucify Hayao Miyazaki for using manga-style eyes. Don't be so stupid.
do you have a deviant art account ?

Influenced...
By now, every artists who draws girls is called either a "Campbell" or "Turner" artist wannabe, just because they draw girls...
I´ve seen people trying to pass art as Pat´s...easily recognized it wasn´t his.
