the Auto industry in Canada my father worked for until he retired. Ford Oakville assembly plant. What killed the Union was the division of the Untited autoworkers areospace industry into seperate entities. These guys sluged it out long before the high tech we can enjoy now with robotics. They earned it and set a the standards that supported schools taxes and the lists endless. Think about it you loose 3000 workers in any community it effects everyone.
30 dallors an hour? nowonder the auto industry crashed. I use to grind on steel for 10 hours a day,15 dallors an hour. You were paid too much,so both the union and the industry are both greedy!
$30 an hour is nothing in today's world. When I was a boy, my dad had a house and a car for 6 dollars an hour, now with three times as much per hour, you can't possibly have that. Stop pointing the finger in the wrong direction.
$30 an hour is only about $50,000-$60,000 a year. This is a middle class standard of pay. Much less than that then you are in the poverty level of wages.
can a non-religious/atheistic/amoral person grow some balls and become an assassin and just go kill some ceo's? cuz God knows i would if it weren't for Him..
well, good news for you - god probably 99% didn't exist so you can go ahead and kill some ceo's
great generalisation you got there, making atheist and amoral in the same level. well my friend, i'm agnostic but i don't kill people and oppose death penalty because i know we only live once and that's it. life is precious!
The Company Management stole the money out of the company with unreasonable bonuses. The government then gives unfair advantage to overseas companies. Then the banks kill the market by stealing all the money with bonuses. Now it is the employees, who have the least amount of control and least amount of money are blamed for it? Well paid workers spend money in the economy and create jobs, over paid CEO's truck the money out of the country where it is gone forever.
toyota and honda pay American workers $12 an hour but are their cars less expensive? hell no
the republicans have always hated unions and its always been their goal to drive down American's wages and destroy the unions. They want everyone poor & desperate so they are willing to work for less.Just look at what's going on now,it's working pretty well for them.
This is where you just plain don't know what you're talking about. My best friend makes over $15.00/hr with honda making components. I'm not a fan of the republicans, but please dont' drag Honda /non-big three auto workers into your propaganda. It's unfair. Unions have always hated competition.
The Union workers have had an easy job. I spent time in the Cummins engine plant in Indiana. I watched workers who didn't have any work to do sit and read the newspaper or a book. When I asked why they weren't assigned another job I was told they couldn't because that wasn't in their job description. The Union is part of the problem. I've never had a problem with the wages only the Draconian rights that the workers had when it came to being flexible.
This is great journalism. Gives great insight into the beliefs of real people. This man that doesn't agree is just too humble. But it's great to see how this man comes to his point of view. Coming from a poor town and seeing a lot of wealth he reacts to what he sees around himself. Instead of blaming some abstract entity like the management, he criticizes what he sees around him. Quite admirable really, but not very realistic.
The man talking about being from Appalachia is speaking from what he's been told and the CEO's want him to feel sorry for them, while they lie about the fact that they have been continually taking more and more money and squeezed the worker because its been a republican mantra.
Lazy union workers.

I quit buying America cars over twenty cars.
I put 400,000 miles on my toyota. People are lucky to get 100,000 out of an America car.
Poor quality, gas guzzlers are the downfall of the car industry in the US.
American being destroyed by design.

The guy with the red shirt says exactly like it is - Reagan made it happen, in the 80s, support the unions, make health care happen

Union busting is pure class warfare. Also companies should not have to pay for benefits, the government should.

You are overpaid.
A starting salary of $28 an hour + those fancy benefits for a job any idiot can do is overpaid.
How much do teachers and nurses make.

In Delaware the GM plant pays new workers $14 /hour. How about the fact that the CEO's are continuely paid millions in bonuses.
The corportions have lied about the unions and kept them in court having to defending themselves with no end or judgment of wrong doing possible.
Where are the lawyers to defend the Unions from having the CEO;s from stealing their pensions and the health care funds to pay themselves.
