  • ya know this movie made so much money when it was released hard to believe no studio ever considered a sequel, and if they did, well then there's no recorded info on it.

  • Well blow me down!

  • I was pretty much OBSESSED with this movie when I was a kid in the early-80s. Love it.

The only other person who ever had as good a Popeye imitation as Williams is Dave Coulier.

  • Something so eternal about it .

  • G00D TRY BUT THIS IS [LIKE PETER PAN] WILLIAMS 0VER THE T0P ACTING RUBBISH // MISSED 0PP0RTUNITY -I'LL WAIT F0R THE NEXT 1

Not only does he constantly say "I AM WHAT I AM" but he walks on water! (Maybe it's time for me to found His church?)

  • Popeye the Chuck Norris of the 1950s.

  • @metrot22 he still the popeye thats better than chuck norris

  • @metrot22 actually from the 30's

  • My life long love for Spinach, because of this man right here.

And yes, i'm always strong to the finish.

  • i love this moive

  • กวนตีน

  • 14 people eat donuts.

  • One of Hollywood's perfect movies.

  • EAT YOUR FUCKIN SPINACH

  • respect:)

  • I love you, Robin! You are the best! :)

  • This film is perfect. Incredibly silly, but that's most of the fun of it. And everyone just seemed to enjoy themselves so much.

  • Could anyone play popeye better!? Thank you Robin Williams!

  • @insanehockeyfan Could anyone play Olive better? I mean, Shelley Duvall was born to play this character.

  • @MsSarjen agreed, the casting was absolutely perfect for this movie, no one else could have pulled off the characters the way Shelly, Robin, Ray Watson (Poopdeck Pappy) and all the others, even the townspeople who make brief appearances, did. is sad though that Robin Williams regrets making this movie, one of his better roles i think

  • @insanehockeyfan ironically Robin Williams regrets ever making this movie, its his least favorite of all his work, i dont know why, its genius

  • @insanehockeyfan Jim carrey? but no he wouldn't be as good.

  • Only a whackjob like Robin Williams would be casted for Popeye HAHA, he's awesome!!

  • Where's the full movie?

  • that and ms doubt fire were the only two movies i could tollerate that wanker in

  • i wonder if popeye's cans of spinach were made in china and tainted with lead like today

  • It seems everything I've ever loved watching has been turned into a movie including Popeye.

  • I wish I could go back in time to when I first saw this movie

  • popeye <3

  • I wonder how Popeye got forearms like that?

  • I just ordered this on play.com XD

for some reason i been buying alot of old movies haha not that im complaining really

super mario bros and Who framed roger rabbit ARE AMAZING!!!! LOL

cant wait till popeye gets here and i can add it to the collection XD

  • Bluto made 14 accounts

  • wow..awesome..i did not know that popeye can doing flips

  • LOL, I've read that Shelley Duvall was nicknamed Olive Oyl in school. I nickname my dance teacher that too, since 15 years ago she was Olive Oyl when our middle school did Popeye.

  • I agree with others who said there should be a sequel, not a reboot. He beat Bluto, but he could always fight the Sea Hag.

  • it would be cool if they had a special with the person who played sweet pea,I am sure he was too young to remember any of this, but it would be funny to see his reaction to the film he should be around 31 years old today

  • I don't know why Robin Williams regrets this film. I thought it was pretty damn awesome. Well, I guess he took those critics' comments personally.

  • chicken of the sea= BLUTO

    HAHAHAHAHA!

  • isn't olive the mother of danny in shining?

  • @Sunburn21591 yes Shelly Duvall was the mom in the shining

  • lol! I remember seeing this on Cartoon Network in the 90s. What struck me is how everyone looks exactly like their cartoon counterparts. The actress playing Olive Oil's got the lanky look, the hair, and even the way she sits perfectly.

  • my mom u to see this and im not talking about the movie..... the cartoon cuz the movie jaked it up.

  • I love the way Popeye talks in general. "Risk my fisk." XD

  • @MWolfL "I ain't no physicist but I knows what matters"

  • @chappy422

What does that mean anyway? XD

    "Chicken of the sea."

  • @MWolfL Tuna fish is called the chicken of the sea

  • @MWolfL I ain't no doctors but I know I'm losing me patience

  • @chappy422

    (Popeye walking across the desert)

"I could make a sandwich if I only had a witch."

  • 0:38 hahaha! Best portrait of pappy's son ever!

  • I watch the cartoons when i was a kid

  • I fully agree! I just watched the movie here at home & if they wanted to do a remake of it that'd be stupid! If anything, they should do a sequal to it! For example its been about 25 yrs since they filmed Popeye and there was a part in the film when they recieved Sweet Pea that after 25yrs the real mother of Sweetpea will come back to get him. So there's something they could use for a sequal! They could use the original characters & cast aswell! Especially Robin Williams & Shelley Duvall!

  • Well I had checked IMDB.com & remake is due out by 2013. I agree that they should not be attempting this, but since they are, they had better get it right!!

  • @RetroDork74

Do you know if it is going to be a remake of this story or a different story about Popeye?

  • Watch, in the future, Hollywood will try to do a remake and put some stupid actors trying to make it "cool." I can't stand the remakes that are done to classics of the past.

  • This movie was perfect. The actors felt literally ripped from the pages of the comic/cartoon.

  • @joiles01 I agree there should have been a sequal.

  • @veeseee128 only if were done much closer to 1980. i think it'd be lame to make one now even if they got Robin Williams on board.

  • robin williams made excellent popeye tho this isnt his most famous movie

  • i am popye the sailor man, i live in the garbage can, i went to your auntie and ripped off her panties, i'm popye the sailor man!

  • Wow, this movie's actually real!

  • omfgawd...Popeye has a movie?? I did NOT know that, lmao

  • @psychotic202 : Yep, he has a movie. I thought it stunk as a kid ...I wasn't really into all the singing back then..but I love the movie now. It's almost like a prequel to the cartoons, with Popeye in town for the first time, meeting Olive, finding his dad, and the very first time he uses spinach.

  • omfgawd, popeye has a movie...robbie williams? haha, did NOT know that

  • TROLOLOL

  • Hmm, I saw this in the theater when it came out. It was a HUGE deal...waited in line forever, etc, I was 9 yrs old. Well, I hated it because of all the singing. I haven't seen the movie since, I should give it another chance now that I'm "Older."

  • This movie is an absolute classic. I picked it up @ Moviestop the other day. They only had 1 copy left and it was brand new so I snatched it up. I couldn't believe they had it. This is such a darling movie and a part of my childhood. I remember seeing it dozens of times. That sort of reveals my age but I don't care!

  • Let's smoke us a bowl of weed!

Let's smoke us a BOWL of weed!

Pop open the sack and grab a snack

And let's smoke us a bowl of WEED!!

Haha had a dream last night and right before I woke up I was singing this song in it and felt it necessary to post it =]

    Was awesome!

  • It didn't seem like Bluto on the fight scene before he gets knocked out of the ocean.

  • This movie is absolute bliss from start to finish!

  • God will always bless sweethaven!

  • Looks like 14 people don't like to eat their spinach.

  • I just quickly read that Harry "Nilsson" wrote all of the songs in Popeye. I always knew him from one of his more famous songs, "Everybody's talkin" from the film Midnight Cowboy.

  • This was one of Robin WIlliams' first movies. He totally rocked as Popeye.

  • WHen i saw this as a kid, that octopus scared the shit outa me

  • Olive would get slammed in every hole

  • @DogChapmann

my penis is umm.......... smal very smal

  • my dad was just a kid or a teen wen popeye came out. well the classic cartoon

  • I love the grand back chorus singing this sweet goofy song.

  • I want to do this as a stage play. It would be awesome to do at our theatre.

  • Robin williams is great. I love the way he does popeye's voice, it sounds just like the one from the cartoon.

  • Williams may make fun of it, but I absolutely loved this movie when I was a little kid, and I still do today

  • This was a fucking weird movie.

  • @R0773N I agree it is a weird movie but that's why it works. The daily strip and those old animations were weird too.

  • EPIC

  • GO POPEYE!

  • Wow he sounds like popeye so much!

  • I loved the old Popeye cartoons and Robin Williams is a comic genius but it just didn't come off right. Shelly Duvall was very believable as Olive Oyl.

  • popeye remake 2012 robin willims was the best popeye

  • could popeye be gregg valentino's dad?

  • I remember watching this when I was little. The octopus scared the shit out of me.

  • The hell with a remake. Im tired of everything remade "better". This movie is perfect. It's UN hollywood thanks to Altman and that's important. It has a strange feel to it because the built this little town on a rock to create a world away from the real world. It's a good mix of the comic strip the early cartoons and a musical. There is nothing wrong with this movie. A remake these days would be a BAD movie guaranteed.

  • @TheNihilistSpasmBand So, so true, remaking this movie would ruin it forever - and probably the comic, too. Hollywood can't seem to do anything right anymore when it comes to bringing classic, well-known characters to the big screen.

  • @TheNihilistSpasmBand Shot in Malta where my Mum comes from and based on a Canadian fishing village 1940s I'm told. Filmed at Anchor Bay.

  • @TheNihilistSpasmBand lol ur talking my country malta lol yes we built it its called popeye village:) still go there in the summer lol

they made it a musical thats why you didnt like it it was really great

  • good moive popeye loves ?

  • i like this :D

  • seriously how did

ROBIN WILLIAM gets addicted to the ANIME

    NEON GENESIS EVANGELION

can someone please give me a link thank you

  • I'd imagine it is a really terrible movie, but totally true to the cartoon :) It's a perfect cast!

  • I heard this movie was actually terrible.

  • @bart11114: It's true to Segar's trip & the early Fleisher/Famous cartoons. The only reason it tanked was 'cause it was pitted against E.T. the Extra Terrestrial. Even one of the few live-action versions of a cartoon to get it 100% right couldn't touch Steven Speilberg in the 80s/90s as a director. E.T. & Jurassic Park saw to that.

  • do think hollywood the remake "Popeye The Movie"?

  • Best Movie Ever!

  • Why would they want to make this movie with CGi anyway? What could you possibly CGI in this thing? Besides, all the good actors that made this film are gone. Who would replace them?

  • Shelley Duvall, in the role she was born to play.

  • i think is time for a new popeye movie

  • Olive Oyl...a true diva!!!!

  • More like Popeye the jesus ma... Oh wait, he sunk...

  • Its Nice how Popeye's Fadder (Father) hates Kids And Children And Then He Likes His Baby Swee' Pea

  • @ThisDayMovies: The Grandparent - Grandchild dynamic.

  • Can spinach, did popeye ever eat raw spinach?

  • Popeye cartoons available on my new channel. Just click on the link.

  • It's a bad film.

  • great hahahaahahahahhaha

  • funny how many kids ate spinach after seeing popeye :P

  • 1:15 He dancing and singing reminded me of 'Chavo del Ocho' great performance ! Popeye is a great characther !

  • We can remake this. We have the technology.

In the right hands a remake would be amazing.

  • @movieman2000

It was a bad idea the first time and it's a bad idea now.

  • UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!! popeye the sailor man!!!! love that!!

  • Ahh, the good ole days.

  • Man, Nostalgia Critic would have a field day with this film.

  • Skiddleeiyekiteye,

  • Coming soon! Popeye is now on 3D!

  • this song is now stuck in my head

  • I cant tell you how many times i've watched this movie when I was a kid. Now my kids watch this movie and I still love it.

  • An unbalanced diet with lots of raw spinach makes you strong.

  • @0Angel0A But only from your elbow down to your wrist.

  • i was like WTF when i saw the skeliten sing

  • A good popeye would actually be Russell Crow, based on looks. Don't know if he could be animated enough to make it cartooney enought though! Who knows!

  • his dancing is hilarious

  • Shelly Winters, Robin Williams. & Paul L. Smith were were a great selection unlike now these days. Very convincing. lol

  • @tigerwoman u mean shelley duvall?

  • oh my god

  • ROFL!!!!!!!!!!

    This is hilarious.

  • Love Shelley Alexis Duvall !

  • i cant believe they put this on foxtel, just bad lol..i culdnt understand him most of the time
