What if wars are the games of the elite, designed to control population while reaping massive financial rewards (power/control)? This video is freaking me out.
The ivory tower's failing is their inability to understand market forces. As cost of oil, coal, any energy increases, energy efficiency improves & use/capita in general declines. Economics matter.
Ask why no calculation was offered showing the planet's total arable land divided by that required per capita to find the resulting max sustainable global population? Here it is:
(50,000,000 SQ Km * 247.1 Acre/SQ Km) / 0.6 Acre per capita = 20.6 BILLION
Overpopulation is obvious. Why can't people understand this and do something different so we in all the world can survive and thrive? Thanks for videos like this.
This is awfully true for many important insights. The source of all thinking errors has been detected by Swiss physicist Dr. Peter Meier, who designed a new science based on innate cause and effect to model human systems individually e.g. DNA. In fact knowledge presented here should be interlinked with understanding real human systems from their outcome and not based on what psychology or philosophy would like them to be - namely mass attractive (aps.think-systems.ch).
Thanks a lot for sharing! I would say: The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our
inability to be really conscious. If so, we wouldn't need the exponential function to explain all this. And we wouldn't be in this situation in the 1st place. Ego-projection withholds from taking part in reality, we try to fix the future from a broken point of view of the past. In reality there's only now, beyond pain, hate, regret, blame or whatever our mind/subconscious throws @ us to keep us from loving
@oscheck by 'conscious' do you mean... knowing what our needs are and how to meet them in the most sufficient way possible? I'd say love is wanting to meet everyones needs... and im not just talking about the basics... connection/ play/ meaning etc etc (but then i'd have to get into semantics with those terms!) haha, our language is crippeling... THANKS FOR WATCHIN!
@EducatorHQ Yes, conscious from loving ourselves would shrink our needs to the elementery needs you mentioned and create abundance in the things we really need short-cycle. Because the source is within us. Water just flows to the lowest point, it doesn't need to do anything. Looking for a solution elsewhere just creates towers of Babylon but doesn't really fulfill our true needs, and we need to maintain, defend etc. all wasted energy. From closed source, to open source, triggered by expressions
Oh, and right now, people in Serbia can see professors words in action: we will probably face electric energy restrictions due to a extremley high consumption caused by low temperatures and we are talking about country with population of 7 million.
A lot of people forget that technological advancements are going to bring new sources of energy other than oil. Solar energy tech and fusion are two likely candidates. Also, 780 years is plenty of time for us to build habitable spaceships for large masses of people. I'm not that into sci-fi, but when people get too hung up on numbers they tend to miss certain variables, which this dude obviously did.
i agree with what AL Bartlett is saying, but i am afraid some of the people here are being alarmist, thinking that the world is doomed no matter what, and you are most likely correct, but wouldn't you rather try to join together and solve the worlds problems, instead of thinking that having a knife taken to ones loins will solve anything.
This was a very enlightening and engaging lecture by Professor Al Bartlett. However, I cannot help but to come to the conclusion that the human race is fucked.
The end of oil will lead to abrupt change, but humans lived thousands of years before without oil. I don't see EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING DYING. There will still be humans after oil, they will just live like their ancestors, and their numbers will be severely culled. Only those that adapt/have luck will survive. It's called evolution.
22:10 is the beginning of the truly important part of the message. The whole thing is important, but 22:10 is the part that should make everyone and anyone take pause.
This video planted a seed of doubt in my mind in 2008. There is no argument that I have heard or have crafted myself to counter the idea of not having kids. The end of oil is going to bring the worst age of human history. My vasectomy shall be carried out on March 02, 2012.
We should simply enjoy today for all of its wonder. As there is no tomorrow for us.
@EliteDoomer Dinosaurs failed, Humans on the verge of failure, why did we fail= racism/ prejudices, nationalism/class division, wars/ diseases, haves/ have not, willfully ignorant, and God concept. If we fail let's hope it is a fucking bang, not a whimper. WW3 = Nato vs China and Russia, population after 0. that's highly unlikely thou America won't start anymore wars, afghanistan was the last forever.
@sinthetix1 You would not be able to tell the difference between semen which contains sperm and semen which does not. Spermatozoa are an incredibly small amount of the matter that is ejected at orgasm.
@EliteDoomer I understand. But, if you do have vasectomy you wouldn't be able to eject sperm out of the dick, or am I completley wrong... sry if I'm stupid
@sinthetix1 You are right in that I won't be able to eject sperm. You were wrong in thinking that one could feel them leaving :)
What you feel is the matrix of semen in which the sperm temporarily reside.
Even if I could, it's not worth it. Children are far too expensive in every way imaginable and sadly this world holds no future for them. Exponential growth and ignorance are going to drag this species into an agonizing demise.
It is better to enjoy each day that is left for us.
@EliteDoomer When you look at earth from outer space, you can not see borders between countries and you can't even see cities or people (unless its night time then you see the artificial lighting). Anyways, when you're in a plane coming in for a landing, the city looks like a growth i.e. like mold. That's us. We are nothing more than mold on a sandwich.
@TubingWithMyGnomies Fungi with arms and legs. The only real difference is that we manipulate the environment to do work for us. Yet with the end of oil our death phase will begin.
@EliteDoomer There is a tomorrow.. Some people will survive. They will pass their genetics on, and the human race will again be subject to natural selection. If you don't want any future incarnates of yourself, that's your business. But I will reproduce because I believe my offspring will be fit to live in the land of tomorrow. That's the whole point of organic life. It doesn't exist unless it reproduces.
@Greltam The odds of your offspring surviving are right next to zero, especially if you live in a densely populated area or have such nearby. It is immoral to bring children to a world with such a horrid future.
There is no "point" to organic life. It just exists.
@EliteDoomer The whole "Immoral" spiel is only useful for the twads that subscribe to the hive mentality. I am an individual organic life. As part of my programming, I am compelled to create offsping. Regardless if the future is "bleak" or the circumstances are not optimal, it must be done. I'm sure the bubonic plague was horrible, or WW2, but people survived and had kids. Organic life doesn't exist without reproduction, because it has a limited lifespan, thus the need for renewal..
@Greltam Clearly you did not pay attention to this video nor what I have said. Your offspring will pay the price for your willing ignorance. They would be better off not existing at all. Humanity is exploding exponentially utilizing and relying upon finite nonrenewable resources.
I'd rather enjoy the days I have left without creating in vain.
@EliteDoomer You clearly do not understand the concept of evolution or the boom and bust cycle. Other living creatures are subject to increase their numbers during prosperity and then many perish when the environment cannot sustain their growth. Because you have a tiny understanding doesn't change the game. Me not having kids won't prevent the next die-off. And during the Die-off I can rest easy knowing that idiots like you won't have any offspring to contaminate the gene pool.
@Greltam Haha fucking moron. Your genes will be purged from this Earth just as mine will. Someone should break your Rose coloured glasses while pulling your head from your ass. This world owes you and your doomed children nothing. Go ahead and have the last word.
@EliteDoomer I'm sure I will have the last word, and many more after that. You neglect the fact that everyone is not like you, nor under the same circumstances, or has so simple a mind. You just might be one of those dumb cattle in the cities that thinks meat comes from cling wrap plastic or vegetables come from trucks. People that are still connected to nature and reality, able to produce their necessities will survive, the Dumb Cattle dependent on the system will not.
@TWSceptic And how, exactly, do you avoid population growth by having 2 kids? You're still doubling the population since the parents don't die immediately after the birth.
@szczypka I actually believe we will have major science breakthroughs that will allow people to populate outside this planet in the next 50-100 y. Also to think that populations will keep growing is naive, if you understand all the possible events coming: super volcanos, asteroids, earthquakes, global warming, tsunami's, glacial periods, economic collapse, war etc.
We'll be lucky to keep the number up in the coming years.
@TWSceptic Even if there will be disasters in the future, there's no point in exacerbating the problem by blindly increasing the population and rushing headlong into those same problems. Also, I find it foolish to base any suggestion of such far-reaching consequences on your beliefs
@szczypka You can't possibly know you're exacerbating anything if you don't know the future. For all you know you might be the last hope in preventing extinction. It's a fact of nature that most people want their genes to survive. Overpopulation will take care of itself, we simply can't take the freedom of reproduction away and people want kids, that is a basic right whether we like it or not. So, most likely nature will take care of the problem. Which admittedly will be very bad for us.
@TWSceptic You are already restricting people's rights by saying "just have one or two kids".
"You can't possibly know you're exacerbating anything if you don't know the future." Plain wrong - we know there are limited resources, if we view that as a problem then using more resources makes the problem worse.
I can see you're quite happy with your view that things will take care of themselves and I'm not going to change that, I think I'll leave it here, rather than make things worse.
@EliteDoomer if everyone just sticks to 1 kid we're fine - from every 2 people comes 1 person. use the spare resources and improvements in technology to improve these people until we transcend the physical world.
by my calculations this will happen on the 21st of May 2045.
HOWEVER that is dependent upon a socialist revolution taking place in the USA and thence the world. luckily by my calculations this will happen on 19th November 2015.
Pretty indicative of the GP's interest in this. Only 3,600 views in 5 months.
Dr. Bartlett needs a number 1 rap hit, or a win on America's Got Talent! Or maybe he should suggest that he has pics of a nude female (guaranteed to get about 65% of the population looking in!)
It is so depressing to see that, the more important the message, the less people are interested in hearing it.
@dmisso I agree, truth is painful to bear and people don't like painful truths.bringing hard maths into th4e subject makes it less likely that people will listen because they can't stand to do the work necessary to prove( or otherwise) what is being asserted. this IS an interesting lecture despite the fact that maths was never been my strong point, what this guy is saying makes one hell of a lot of sense.
The version of this video that is uploaded in 8 parts got about half a million to a million views.
And now, if you look at the statistics for this video, you can see exponential growth :) The rate at which this video accumulates views is accelerating.
how about, burn methane, very potent greenhouse gas produce co2 much less potent, get energy, use h2 cells to run everything and get our sh*t together ! :D i know there is no money in it for you CO2 greenpeace freaks so calm your face !
@EducatorHQ you asked if anything would be improved by increased population, I believe scientific discovery rate will increase with higher population. More brains is more discovery and if Einstein is 1 in a billion, then we should have 7 Einsteins now...
@HaloAngelBoy yeh, if we all had similar exposure to that which Einstein received... we could all follow in his footsteps... so we could all be making discoveries and inventions to handle the issues outlined in this presentation...
@EducatorHQ Actually his point is also that we can't find scientific solutions to ALL of the growth problems, as long as there is a steady growth it will become a problem, especially if it is population, you can't science your way out of that, unless you kill people with science
Population creates the demand that consumes the resources- so something must be done about population. The same math lesson tells us that if we brought down our growth rate by a mere annual percentage, the problem would be dealt with in a single generation, maybe two.. the hard part, the intractible dilemma is- how do you legislate behaviour?
Did you watch the video at all? The alleged problem is the growth itself, wether it is the growth of population or the increase in energy, resource and land usage.
Every growing system implies a doubling of whatever is needed to drive the system in a certain amount of time. Since almost all driving factors are simply limited resources, the point these limits are exceeded is INEVITABLE and comes on SURPRISE if not foreseen by this simple conclusion.
I do not think that overpopulation is really the root of our problems, but our constant waste of resources is. We could use our resources much more wisely if our economic system wasn't based on growth and continual sales.
Overpopulation is still an issue though, but I would say that pollution and resource depletion are much bigger problems at the time being.
@IHighLikePlane I wouldn't want 50 thousand next door neighbors. I think I would go a insane no matter how well our resources were used at that point.
@0932486509 Cities are a more efficient use of resources than having people spread out over long distances though. If we want to be sustainable it's likely most of us will have to live in cities.
The key is being sustainable though, we have to get rid of our outdated economic and political systems which are driving us towards resource depletion and environmental destruction. Imagine if instead we applied science towards meeting every human's needs while maintaining the environment.
@IHighLikePlane I'll have to respond in two comments. However as far as the city being more efficient thing, I think you'll be surprised by what Nasa is calling #1 green technology now. Look up "ecat rossi" and type in Nasa as well if you want. There is also a "frequently asked questions" page for the ecat which is outdated now, but it gives you a basic overview. It won't let me put up the links here sadly but the FAQ is on peswiki.com.
@IHighLikePlane Yes I totally agree with you about our outdated ideas (religions, government, and so forth). They must meet their end by design which is comforting. The catholic church will fall in our lifetime. The U.S. will very likely break up into about 5 countries after two civil wars. With the recent discovery of neutrino particles opens up possibilities to scientists that were simply not even spoken of before. Imagine having no need for land vehicles, roads, gas, power lines, etc.
What if wars are the games of the elite, designed to control population while reaping massive financial rewards (power/control)? This video is freaking me out.

@EducatorHQ you asked if anything would be improved by increased population, I believe scientific discovery rate will increase with higher population. More brains is more discovery and if Einstein is 1 in a billion, then we should have 7 Einsteins now...
HaloAngelBoy 4 months ago
@HaloAngelBoy yeh, if we all had similar exposure to that which Einstein received... we could all follow in his footsteps... so we could all be making discoveries and inventions to handle the issues outlined in this presentation...
EducatorHQ 4 months ago
@EducatorHQ Actually his point is also that we can't find scientific solutions to ALL of the growth problems, as long as there is a steady growth it will become a problem, especially if it is population, you can't science your way out of that, unless you kill people with science

Population creates the demand that consumes the resources- so something must be done about population. The same math lesson tells us that if we brought down our growth rate by a mere annual percentage, the problem would be dealt with in a single generation, maybe two.. the hard part, the intractible dilemma is- how do you legislate behaviour?

@EducatorHQ @IHighLikePlane
ManWithOneBoldStare 5 months ago
I do not think that overpopulation is really the root of our problems, but our constant waste of resources is. We could use our resources much more wisely if our economic system wasn't based on growth and continual sales.
Overpopulation is still an issue though, but I would say that pollution and resource depletion are much bigger problems at the time being.

@IHighLikePlane dynamic equilibrium?/ carrying capacity of the earth?
i agree with the comment =)

@IHighLikePlane I wouldn't want 50 thousand next door neighbors. I think I would go a insane no matter how well our resources were used at that point.

@IHighLikePlane I don't even like cities now.
0932486509 4 months ago
@0932486509 Cities are a more efficient use of resources than having people spread out over long distances though. If we want to be sustainable it's likely most of us will have to live in cities.
The key is being sustainable though, we have to get rid of our outdated economic and political systems which are driving us towards resource depletion and environmental destruction. Imagine if instead we applied science towards meeting every human's needs while maintaining the environment.
IHighLikePlane 4 months ago
