@joshdphenom i dont always diss southern its just that on some songs they just dont sound good. in my opinion the only songs southern sounds good on are the ones they play loud on which is what they are use t. but when it comes to plying soft southern seems to not sound good cause i always hear someone trying to blow a note. i like southern when it comes to halftime shows but not when they are just n the stands other than when they are playing POWER i cant help but to like that. lol

That may in fact be the reason they are so horrible, or at least one reason. Honestly, I dont know of any other band that is as bad as GSU....I mean that with all my heart.

SU may not have a better football team but they will ALWAYS have the better band. SU plays loud & clear and the whole dome echoed when I was there. Last time I checked, GSU fans were filling the dome up with applause for the Greek Show.....SO you're tryna sit up here and feed me this b/s about a biased crowd?? if that's the case, SU should be booed after every song when we go to JSU, but we aren't....Know why? b/c people respect and appreciate musicianship, energy, and good competition....It's simple, when Gram was on their ish, they got respect.....Now that they aren't they won't get it....They did improve from the 09 classic though....
grambling sound like hot shit and they were playing our songs (whitehaven high school) that our band director wrote and they fucked it up im pissed. We play that shit that a 1000 times better than them and we will shit on them anyday.
@btones20 remember these are college students as well as band students. they didnt go to college to be in band they went to college to get an education which is most important. also grambling didnt take these songs from whitehaven whitehaven took these songs from grambling. grambling is a college so why would a college take songs from a high school when they are the ones who get the music first and arrange the songs thmeselves? and they sound great

Grambling sounds like crap every year. Listen, I love my HBCU show bands but the standard needs to be raised all the way around. A lot of us are starting to sound like high school bands. Its just laziness when it comes to the arrangements as practice on the basics.

Grambling's World Famed is getting things done again. The band is starting to believe in itself again and you can tell in the music. The arrangements are sounding better and the musicianship is coming back. SU can blow the bells off there instruments but it doesn't mean it's music. Every song is watered down to get power. Not all songs are written to be powerful everytime, but instead to be felt & notes to move you. Southern use to be able to do that, but I don't think they can do that now.
@gargoil6 I have to agree frat. SU used to groove a lot more than they do now, but then again pretty much all bands have been brainwashed by the power over musicallity infection that plagues the SWAC nowadays. Lord help us.

Instead of criticizing the schools here why don't you give some credit and praise??? HBCU's are in a shambles and a lot of them could be facing huge budget cuts! People need to realize is the majority of the bayou classic is southern fans. They have MULTIPLE campuses around that region of Louisiana..Grambling has a smaller fan base in comparison, especially in New Orleans. Fans booing GSU really means nothing. As far as music is concerned, GSU had great song selection. There was a good contrast of musical styles. SU killed that "Can't Be Friends" and a few others,but IMO(AND THIS IS MY OPINION) lost some respect when they played neck. Good botb though.

@Supadave7 As a current tenor sax player at GSU I think you need to stop as they say in the hood: "Hatin" We hold sections to make sure that we are all playing and dancing at the same time. We got our own thing and the SU saxes have their boring "sit still and play" thing.

Last time I checked, GSU fans were filling the dome up with applause for the Greek Show.....SO you're tryna sit up here and feed me this b/s about a biased crowd?? if that's the case, SU should be booed after every song when we go to JSU, but we aren't....Know why? b/c people respect and appreciate musicianship, energy, and good competition....It's simple, when Gram was on their ish, they got respect.....Now that they aren't they won't get it....They did improve from the 09 classic though....

grambling sound like hot shit and they were playing our songs (whitehaven high school) that our band director wrote and they fucked it up im pissed. We play that shit that a 1000 times better than them and we will shit on them anyday.

@btones20 remember these are college students as well as band students. they didnt go to college to be in band they went to college to get an education which is most important. also grambling didnt take these songs from whitehaven whitehaven took these songs from grambling. grambling is a college so why would a college take songs from a high school when they are the ones who get the music first and arrange the songs thmeselves? and they sound great

Grambling sounds like crap every year. Listen, I love my HBCU show bands but the standard needs to be raised all the way around. A lot of us are starting to sound like high school bands. Its just laziness when it comes to the arrangements as practice on the basics.

Grambling's World Famed is getting things done again. The band is starting to believe in itself again and you can tell in the music. The arrangements are sounding better and the musicianship is coming back. SU can blow the bells off there instruments but it doesn't mean it's music. Every song is watered down to get power. Not all songs are written to be powerful everytime, but instead to be felt & notes to move you. Southern use to be able to do that, but I don't think they can do that now.

Instead of criticizing the schools here why don't you give some credit and praise??? HBCU's are in a shambles and a lot of them could be facing huge budget cuts! Why would you want to criticize a band? How can a football team go 8-1 or 8-3 in the SWAC and not even have some type of Bowl invite?? Other conferences have them. Complain about that! No one is getting money for these performances and they are not judged by professionals. STOP COMPARING BANDS..both are talented. STOP HATING!

People need to realize is the majority of the bayou classic is southern fans. They have MULTIPLE campuses around that region of Louisiana..Grambling has a smaller fan base in comparison, especially in New Orleans. Fans booing GSU really means nothing. As far as music is concerned, GSU had great song selection. There was a good contrast of musical styles. SU killed that "Can't Be Friends" and a few others,but IMO(AND THIS IS MY OPINION) lost some respect when they played neck. Good botb though.

Tell me SU...and I can't blame the director for this...but, what purpose does it make for your cheeks to me be as red Rudolph's nose if you're not going to be musical?! It's unethical and it's not proper musicianship just b/c you want to be heard. The only thing I'm appreciative of is the fact that you can actually hear woodwinds without restraint.
