I think everything is just bigger in the south, like if you live here in California, houses/apartments are much smaller. I've seen apartments in San Francisco that are the size of a walk in closet. And everything cost way more, a decent sized house could be worth nearly a million dollars.

@azncamgurl It depends. My school's dorms are more expensive than nearby apartments. But, my friend's school has cheap older dorm rooms with many roommates that are cheaper than living off campus. They're just old, dirty, and crowded... but cheap. You can usually get a better deal off campus... but you have to figure in utilities and transit costs.

@azncamgurl It depends. One of my apartments, even with utilities, was still at least half as cheap as a dorm. Utilities for a small off-campus studio apartment aren't that bad, and you don't have to get cable/etc. off campus like you do in a dorm. Generally, off-campus apartments are cheaper if you look for a deal and don't go overboard on a luxury apartment. I had one off-campus apartment that was 7 times bigger than my tiny dorm (literally) but was only 25% of the cost bills paid.

So, nearly $1150 per month to live in a triple (so, you have 2 other roommates). That's expensive, even for NYC. You could get a small apartment with 2 other roommates for less than that elsewhere.

@fckyoouitstinaa Did it ever occur to you that the reason she may live in an apartment when she is in college is because it is probably cheaper to do so, I know for a fact that when you live away from home because of school, the dormitories on campus tend to be more pricy versus the apartments that are around the campus, so she may just live there because it is a better option. It doesn't necessarily mean she is spoiled just because she has an apartment while she is away at school.
