Had one that big back in Fla. It used to eat 1/2 chicken - swallowed the whole thing. Mine wasn't tame and got loose in the neighborhood....police were scared of it. I had to get rid of it as it was too much lizard for the neighbors.
Holy shit!!! this guy is awesome!!! he looks like vin diesel wich is awesome has a water monitor wich is awesome and to top it all off hes wearing a crow T shirt DAMN AWESOME OVERLOAD
After 9 years in the reptile trade, I have heard of NO ONE who has gotten salmonella from their reptile. If you just wash your hands before and after handling, you really will be fine. They're not living piles of bio-hazardous sludge. Plus, @Imhighandhungry, I'm getting the impression that you need to do A LOT more research before acquiring a monitor....
the only reason i wouldnt get a monitor lizard is you have to wash your hands after or somtimes even before you handle it, and it needs as much atention as a dog lol seems like alot of hand washing to me....or ul get saminela or somthing else........well thats too bad :(
@Imhighandhungry it is VERY unlikely to get salmonella from reptiles. you don't even really need to be that precocious about it. it is very rare for your reptile to carry the disease.
Actually it is a threat to many living things; plants and single celled creatures (thats what its supposed to kill anyway) but also amphibians and, to an extent, reptiles. However, the damage done depends on the concentration.
@alondramapeal i knew someone with a 4 foot (aka half the size of this one) monitor and it was dangerous. many of them actually are and do you know how much food and space it takes to keep one of them? A LOT. its not like having a dog or a cat at all.
I used to sell reptiles in a shop but the problem is most wont look after them well. Its lovely to see people loving them so much, well done great vid
maybe chlorine doesnt bother larger tougher animals like humans and big dogs, is that why he can stand it? my neighbor has a saltwater pool with no chemicals and im wondering whats in this pool?
@pmfernandez67 Do they really realise you're their owner and treat you with some sort of love? Could you compare your relationship with it as with a cat or as with a mouse or something?
@OgreWorld yes the know how to give affection when they want too. my black throat used to love curling up on me in my recliner. if he liked you he would come check you out but if he didnt like you he would run and hide.
Experienced keepers have kept water monitors for years and had no problem with a little exposure to pool water, it's not like they live in the pool, do you?? $10 says none of you have any direct experience to compare against, but people sure love to flap their gums on youtube.
like so many other comments, i hope that pool doesnt have chlorine because the chlorine reacts with the scales very harshly and it makes them very flimsy and weak plus its just not good for the lizard in general.
@xXDeadoraliveXx Think about it, they can be unpredictable. The leash would give more controller and prevent it from running away, possible from eating the neighbor's cats?
@xXDeadoraliveXx Uhhhh its not because he's in the water LOL its because he's outside. That monitor could be gone in the blink of an eye. Its just for safety so that 7 and a half foot lizard isn't loose in your neighborhood. Of course he may be completely tame, but its an animal and anything could startle him causing him to just take off, a plane, a hawk, a car horn. This guy is using his brain. I do the same thing with all of my monitors. Its being a responsible pet owner, not a lazy one.
LOL...no such thing as completely tame when referring to any wild creatures, least of all large reptiles. How many people have to be bitten and injured by your so called "pets" before you people understand they are not and can never be tamed.
@TryTheRedPill us reptile keepers don't mind that. and we know that they are wild animals. but you know what is even more dangerous than keeping our so-called "beasts"
DOGS!!! thousands and thousands of people are brutally or killed every year by dogs. and you say a large monitor who maybe kills 1 or 2 people every 10 years is dangerous? wow......
Although your numbers referring to fatalities are probably over-inflated, many many people worldwide do suffer serious injuries and even death due to dog attacks. But I never focused on fatalities when referring to pet monitors. I was referring to the potential danger of getting BIT. Especially when these animals are kept in homes where small children reside. Never mind how many have died. Research how many people are seriously bit by these things every year!
@TryTheRedPill im not talking about people getting bitten. im talking about DEATHS from these monitors. last year 34 people were killed from dogs and 800,000 people were severally injured or need medical attention. I'm 13 and i take care of a sumatran water monitor named Sebastian and he is the SWEETEST thing i have ever seen. he loves kisses and being pet. and in his whole 5 and a half years of life he has only bitten one person.
@beardedDRAGON007 Even one person getting bit is one too many. But you are young and will not fully understand that right now. But I'm glad you are happy with your monitor. Keep taking care of him and don't let him get fat like some of these other monitors on here. Good luck!
@TryTheRedPill im just saying what i heard online. not trying to exaggerate....but he is not mine...he is the pet stores that i work at. i plan on getting a tegu or savannah monitor soon tho
@Imhighandhungry ik....me too. but im saying that i didnt have too because you have a greater chance of getting salmonella from your kitchen than you are from your reptile.
@xXDeadoraliveXx without the leash its really hard to get it outta the pool and there really fast in water.. i had a nile and i tried the whole pool thing without a leash wasnt fun plus mine was really aggressive not docile like this one
@xXDeadoraliveXx its also a safety precaution incase the animal gets startled and bolts, if youve ever seen a fleeing water monitor youd know that you would have a hard time catching it lol
that is really cool that he loves water because ive seen other water monitors that dont even like water. Im glad your one of those people who do not force there animal into water just for their entertainment

mice are an excellent food for baby monitors of larger species, such as water, argus and nile monitors.
