@JayOkan actually Ottomans never defeated Greeks in Cyprus. They did however defeat there Venetian overlords and there Maronite Arab garrison, who they forced to abandone there catholic faith in favour of Islam or Orthodoxy. In fact the Ottomans treated the Greek Cypriots (who treated the Ottomans as lliberators) better then there Venetian predecessors. For the first time in over 150 years Greek Cypriots where granted the right to aquire property and worship freely.

They did however defeat there Venetian overlords and there Maronite Arab garrison, who they forced to abandone there catholic faith in favour of Islam or Orthodoxy. In fact the Ottomans treated the Greek Cypriots (who treated the Ottomans as lliberators) better then there Venetian predecessors. For the first time in over 150 years Greek Cypriots where granted the right to aquire property and worship freely.

If you search the web for the following term "Turkish Cypriot origins" you will find that the Turks that live there now, originally emigrated from Turkey.
They were originally from Konya, Kırşehir, Aydin, Çorum, Kayseri, Samsun, Eskişehir, Ankara, Burdur, and Ushak.

You can say whatever you want, since 1557 or whatever, since Helen, mother of the great Roman Emporer Constantine landed in Cyprus in 314 AD the island was Greek! I personally like Turkish people. My father tells m stories of how Greks and the small minoerity of Turks lived happilly together in Cyprus for 100's of years. When the British took the island from the Turks the Christian bias towards the Greeks began thus with many Turks leaving Cyprus to Anatolia. This greatly changed the demogrphic to 140,000 Greeks and 42,638 Turks.
