  • When I took my test about 40 years ago, I used an AEC with a 6 speed crash box, and I was required to go from 1st to top and back to 1st. I suppose that this item was dropped because of syncro and I-chage boxes.

  • these fools like ive been an hgv driver 20/30 years HAVE YOU EVEN DONE A TEST YOU OLD CUNTS? even if you DID. i'm sure the test is harder NOW like all tests. they get HARDER not fucking easier.

  • Gearchange exercise was a waste of time IMO, it was a good thing when they binned it. I had to do it tho lol

  • can anyone give me advice on how i get a job after spending so much to get the licence they keep saying you need experience so how did the people whose got experience get it in the first place

  • @rocksygti It's hard man :( lots of experienced drivers out of work they take those over the unexperienced sadly. Persistance is the way fwd!

  • @weblefeck i think the best way is to lie on the cv dont ya think?

  • awful lot of experts out there, wonder why no one agrees with any one else. perhaps no one really knows it all, even if they think they do.

  • gear changing exercise lolol??????????? i thought he was gonna start removing naff clothes

  • puddle splaser not a big rig

  • They dropped the gear changing exercise from the LGV driving test just before I did my class 2. Bit of a relief given the fact that they now insist you do your class 2 in a truck with an 8 speed box.

  • Funny to know how to change gears... Do you know how to fasten your belt now ?

  • Block change you idiot!!

  • @Lousypenguin not allowed to you idiot, that is the part of the exercise to use all the gears

  • @chillpete Bullshit. No need to use individual gears, exercise or not. Block changing reduces fuel consumtion, less wear on gearbox and better for the environment, It's a completely useless exercise especially now with the introduction of CPC.

  • @Lousypenguin this was filmed when the gear changing was compulsory in the driving test numbnuts, so if you dont know what your talking about, i.e. your a driving instructor or driving examiner I would shut up and stop making a fool of your self

  • @chillpete Blah Blah Blah moron. I'm a truckie so I do know what I'm talking about. I pity anyone who undergoes training with you.

  • @chillpete tosser, I bet you passed your test last week at the 6th attempt if you don't know what the GEAR CHANGING EXERCISE is, get some driving under your belt then come and talk to me about how things should be done

  • It's a good job he's got a syncro mesh gearbox, he'd be a handy laddie on a constant mesh box. Professional drivers double de clutch even on syncro boxes especially changing down.

  • seat belt my friend :P

  • Iveco's Suck

  • @mckerraljamie I agree, my dad said that the first genoration stralis came to pieces, say if you used the indicator to much the stalk would fall off

  • that guy cant do a blind spot check.

  • Lorry's are all automatic now Hooray!

  • no they arent.

  • You don't have to do a gear change exercise on test any more.

I actually did the whole of my test using 5-8, even on an uphill start.

Weren't much help in an artic though, as I spent a day and a half struggling with the gears till I got the hang of it:-(

  • really is there no more gear changing excercise in the test? ive doing my class 2 training soon, any advice?

  • Defo no gear change exercise now.

Advice ..... research the training school you use, make sure the trucks are in good nick, research the test centre you use - some have low pass rates (ie. 25%) others have a high pass rate (ie. 50%).

If you can afford it, do your class 1 as soon as possible after your class 2.

On test day ... don't forget ... they're not after the best lorry driver in the world, just a safe drive. MIND THOSE CURBS!!!

    Good luck ;-)

  • thanks for that, im taking it at garrets green. 40 percent pass rates. hope i do alright,im quite nervous. how did you get on, did you pass first time and were you quite nervous?

  • @goldyn12345

I did my class 2 at Swynertton, Stafford and my class 1 at Featherstone, Wolverhampton .... which was a mistake as it's a hard test centre.

Passed the class 2 second time and class 1 third time!!!!!!

Was nervous on every test, mainly because they're £300.00 a go (including lorry), so it's an expensive game.

You'll be ok though, just take it easy!

  • yeah ive been told to stay away from wolverhamprton.,i just hope i can pass it.

  • He did not use double clutching.

  • sorry, nothink special, and remember ur in a truck

u must double clatching when u change gears

  • or just dont clutch at all

  • what's the average rpms on this bad boy? & how high is the redline?

I'd hate to drive one of these... looks like everything sucks: steering, brakes, power.

  • im doing my training atm and i find it hard that you have to slow all the way down to change down gears, otherwise you get a good old CRUNCH, Ive only done 1 day so far, I really hope i get used to it, also the size of the bloody thing, its hard to stay off the curbs at roundabouts, and the brakes! their bloody horrible, its like nothing nothing nothing emergency stop!

  • @gixxerich

You generally have to slow right down before changing gears in bigger vehicles I think. There's buses in our town that the drivers will slow down to 5-10 mph to go round corners and keep it in third or fourth and have no issue accelerating away. The gears in these larger vehicles are very narrow.

  • @SPTSuperSprinter156

You're right ... The motto is "Brake pads are cheaper than a clutch/gearbox"

Unless fully laiden, no real nead to go below 3rd gear in an artic, unless you're on a steep hill.

  • i normally just double clutch, is this ok for the vehicle?

  • yes it ok, in fact if you are going to use the clutch to shift an unsyncronized transmission you are suppose to double clutch. Personally i just float the gears and never have to hit the clutch unless i am starting from a dead stop.

  • He forgot buckle up the seat bealt......

  • my mates took the test 3 times and he cant pass it, he says its a hard test!!

  • There are a number of gear shifting techniques that we learn and use while driving,

progressive, whole gear, skip, and snap shifting the latter been only used on crash boxes, palm the gears, practice makes better, always read the manufactures handbook

  • dont see the point in that exercise coz i never come down the box like that.

  • its only to prove you know how to change up and down without crunching the box yes its a load of bo***acks but when your in the test you have to prove you can do it even if you will never do it again.

  • it sure is bollocks! i drive a MAN tga420 with a split an range change an i only ever

use the clutch for starting an stoping.

    gota love comfort shift

  • saves on the knees later in life too, personally i prefer full manual both my old volvo FH12 and now Scania R420 have 14 speed manual split boxes.

But then i spend more time on a motorway than i do around towns.

  • now that wld make a gd video lol

  • been a HGV for over 20 years why the fuck wouk you drop down to gear 1. fucking muppet

  • You must be a good HGV driver, did you get someone else to take the test for you, or cant you remember back as far as 20 years when you took your test and had to do the gear changing exercise. Don't tell me that you didn't have to do it that long ago I took my test over 25 years ago and I had to do it back then. you fucking muppet

  • you guys dont souble clutch when you teach over there?

  • Thats because we have better gearboxes than you do.

  • We in England drive on the correct side of the road, it's you foreign people that drive on the wrong side. :-)

  • We also in Australia drive on the correct side of the road. Also that 6 speed box was rather simple for a truck and you can notice the sheer ruggedness of the gears in that to get gear 1 you need to be barely moving (even in a car you need to be going pretty slowly to get it engaged at all).

  • Right side is the right side m8! keep on truckin'!

  • I did my lgv 12 years ago. Why are people still calling i h.g.v. ,that term was done away with 15 years ago. Reason, the Europeans could not agree a word for heavy but accepted the word largehence large goods vehicle.

  • this is iveco eurocarg?

  • this is iveco eurocargo?

  • what does lgv and hgv mean?Where is this in europe.I drive in the states and we just call it a class a licence

  • Large goods vehicle. HGV as above

  • the gear change excercise is now no longer part of the test

  • Yes I know.

  • Does the incident incident involving the overtaking blue car as he is asked to move off making normal use of the gears amounts serious fault?

  • Why should it, he didnt pull away infront of it

  • For those not aware the Gear change excercise will cease to be conducted during tests as from 31/12/07 Midnight.

  • that lorry doesnt have seatbelts, so obviously the driver isnt required to wear one.

  • Yet it has the buckles for seatbelts on the sides of both driver and passenger side seats?

  • Because the truck wasnt fitted with one

  • I done my first hour had to pull off in third then flick switch up and straight into fifth, my real course is booked for the 22nd, but that daf I was driving seems huge lol.

  • It will seem huge, you are not allowed to use waggons this small now for LGV tests

  • Depends on the category being taken - the 7.5 tonne (Cat C1) is now a testable vehicle, and they're rarely bigger than an 12 tonner.

Was this a Cargo 75E15 by any chance?

  • Just passed my class 2,i had a switch gearbox though with 8gears,had to flick switch and go to upto 5th gear only and go back down to 1st gear.Peace of piss by the way as long as you get a truck with a good gearbox as the one i was training in at the start of the week was a bit of a bastard but it might have been down to inexperience.

  • I am just about to start my HGV class 2 traing with a company in luton, I thought you are meant to go throught each gear one by one he only went up to 4th, what happens if you have an eight speed like i think mine is going to be

  • You go halfway up the gearbox plus one, so in this case 4th is correct. In your 8 speed you'll be required to reach fifth.

  • the gear to the eurocargo also change him without using the friction!!!

  • Thanks chill,i have an automatic psv license and i'm going for my lgv2 in october this i'm sure will give me a head start, thanks dude

  • sheffield my friend

  • seat belt would be handy for this idiot!

  • No seatbelt fitted in vehicle, so cant put one on. If you know anything about LGV's not all the older vehicles have them fitted and dont have to have them fitted

  • This is why to many lgv drivers are shit. Bad training!!!

  • YOu must be one of the shite ones then

  • he goes up four gear. your the one that counts them for him. Cant you count to five. Prick

  • Still going on about nothing. Grow up and fuck off

  • This guy had it to easy. He should try a 4 over 4 gear box in a true size vehicle. He also only had to go up and down 4 gears instead of 5 like you do now.

  • hehe u have driving tests this simple?

  • Mirrors, Signal, Manoeuvre? At least he did check his blind spot.

  • why is he not wearing a seat belt

  • Great instructor! Try changing a RR~18spd one day.

  • Done it. Got the book, read the T-shirt
