  • this is untrue. 2 years pre-med, 4 years at medical school to get a bachelors in rad! idk what he's talking about with like 12 years or whatever...

  • I'm 14 and want to become a radiologist... I better get started now...

  • I've wanted to become a Radiologic Technologist for awhile but recently I've relized that i think i really do want to be a radiologist. You only live once so why not go for the big home run? I understand it's alot of schooling. Im not a A+ student but i will try the hardest i can to become what i want to be.

  • @iGatorNation Amen im trying to become a radiologist to and what you wrote is inspiration go for it

  • im confused sort of... I am starting school for radiology tech. I will have my AA degree so with that what else would i need to do to become a radiologist???

  • wtf, just do it... unless you want to retire at your local wal-mart, move into a crappy nursing home because you never made enough money for a decent savings, and hope that your children (whom you may have ignored because you were working over-time to put food on the table in your "drug-infested low income neighborhood" apartment)... hope that your children survive a hard-knock life.... no one can afford for YOU to be a slacker..

  • Poor video. "Let's read from cue cards" Sheesh...

  • I want to join Radiology...(currently reading for usmle step 1)..I need a recommendation!

  • Well for me i went to college when i was 16 because i graduated early. that means i get my BA when im 20 and if i go to to a 2 year medical school that means im a doctor when im 22, 4 years residency will be done when im 26 and fellowship by the time im 28 :) so i dont know what you guys are complaining about. I left high school early because "senior year" isnt as hyped up as everyone says it is.. screw high school its the same stuff they teach you at college for your AA/GE

  • @Nechronix you must mean 4 year medical school...

  • I am 33 with 3 kids and have 4 classes left to graduate with a business degree. So after completing the pre-reqs, going to med school, then radiology residency I am guessing I will be roughly 43-45 when completed.I figure I will have plenty of life in me to work for at least 20-25 years before retiring. Is there a lot of doctors who start later in life?

  • @shumdawg77 That is a bit late to get started with it all, a lot later than usual, but don't ever let your age discourage you from your dreams. It's not to late. =)

  • I am currently taking classes to become a radiologic technologist. Then after that i am going to go to medical school to become a radiologist! :) I am excited and can't wait for my new career!

  • wat i want to do fist is be a technician, then work my way up to a radiology assistant then go back to school and complete the requirements and be a radiologist. i hope im set :) i know it'll be hard but im so motivated

  • You can become a Radiology tech after 2 years of school.

  • thank u for the information , now i know what to expect in my new career

  • maintain a high gpa?? 3.7 or higher??.... im screwed

  • @chivasx90 lol i hear that

  • Im 17 and in college to become a radiologist :o so ill be younger then 27 by the time I graduate

  • It's one of the highest paying jobs in the medical field. Off the top of my head, the only other medical job that I can think of that pays more is a neurosurgeon.

  • @ProudAtheist90 Not really.Every specialty can end up being more lucrative than another.

Specialty salary avg is made by calculating the hours worked by the Docs.

Radiology is the clear winner, but most radiologists are the busiest persons of the hospital, expect no sleep for this job,not a drop.

If a family doc worked the SAME hours as a Radiologist,he would make almost the same salary, maybe more because they pay less in malpractice.

Most grads who want a life won't become a specialist.

  • well, it takes less than 3 years for a radiology CERTIFICATE, this process is the complete process to be a MASTER radiologist, dont waste your time on it, get a 2-3 years associate and start working, 10 years for masters without experience is the same as your not getting HIRED, 1st. they cant pay ya, 2nd. you don't have practical experience besides your rotation while in school. my advice? DONT take 10 years route, go through a 2-3 years program, you guys will be good to go

  • @DarkCharisma2 thanx man cuz this guy had me scared lol im starting my associate now and i would hate to do 10 years of schooling!!!!

  • @DarkCharisma2 Those who don't take the full Radiology route will be LIMITED in terms of practice, they can't perform half the tasks Radiologists take and they CAN'T supplement their income in anyway.

That's like saying you can be an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon without taking the dual degree route, you can do it,but without the dual degree, you will be the surgeon's bitch.

  • the US is very different from my country in this matter. I got accepted directly into med school, tho people with low score in a test similar to the US MCAT have to do premed. Also med school here is up to 6 years having three years of basic sciences and three of clinical skills. After it you have to spent another year doing what is called here an Obligatory Community Service, and after that you'll be a medical doctor. Regarding radiology is quite similar also 4 years which I start this July.

  • @ gioc27if

    I highly disagree with you.

I am a radiology resident and can tell you that although some clinicians pretend to be able to interpret x-rays, ct scans and MRIs, they very, very often make gross mistakes. It takes 5 years of residency to be able to learn how to interpret these exams; it isn't something you can learn "on the fly".

  • Yeah, unfornately, most people who try to get into radiology residencies here in canada is because the fact that it pays like 430-500k/year...so the selection interviews are kind of strict and hard to get for this specialty, along with surgery residencies.

  • in romania, the medschool lasts 6 years and the residency in radiology another 5 years. i'm in the first year of residency and i can tell u for sure that all our clinicians know how to read a conventional radiography; some of our clinicians and surgeons know about irm or ct scan; so it's seems that radiology is needed only to save time and money, economic interests, and not because we,radiologist are indespensable

  • It seems to be easy but it takes long to become this....This video has helped me to encourage to become an RADIOLOGIST.....Thanks to eHow...

  • how much resedency 4 years.?

  • @cawoxasan In the U.S. the pathway is 4 years of undergrad, 4 years of medical school, 5 years of residency. Many radiologists now are also completing fellowships which are 1-3 years depending on the subspecialty.

  • ughhh i wanna do this , but i feel if i grad from all this at age 27 or so. ill feel like i missed so much on life :'[[

  • Hey, don't let anything deter you from your true passion in life. Go for it my friend. There are med students who are much older than you who finish at much older ages so go for it my friend. You're your only obstacle

  • "You're your only obstacle"......That's seriously some of the best advice I've ever heard. Wow-I just feel so much more encouraged to go on and do this! :) Thank you so much!

  • graduation is usually at age 28 with 3-4 years of residency and 1-2 fellowship would make you a full fledged radiologist at age 32-34

  • now i'm discourage =(

  • @plrbear1028 no not really. you could have a social life when you don't have school or you're not studying. ya know? just make a schedule lol im so serious. school doesn't have to affect your social life that much ya know.

  • @plrbear1028 don't feel so bad about missing out on life. you will have plenty of time to catch up. your career will determine your life style after college therefor it is very important. i am sure you are aware of this. speaking on the money side which is very important, you will be more economically stable and have more time for your kids. everything good in life is hard, very hard. but worth it. besides you will 27 some day regardless if you study this or not.

  • @MRxEMPii lol 27 ? 27 is the average age on residency.

Radiologists normally finish at 33-34 after the fellowship is done.

Sometimes 36 since some hospitals require a masters from you.

  • @plrbear1028

Well, it's not like your entire life outside of school is on hold. It's going to be hard work, but when you graduate at around age 27, as you say, you'll be earning a six figure income, typically. I know a radiologist that has been in the field for around 12 years, and makes upwards of $680,000 a year. It's a VERY demanding and mentally challenging job, with long hours at times, but that's the price you pay for the "American dream".

  • @plrbear1028 you would finish at 32, and yes, that is what is going through my mind as i get close to finishing

  • @plrbear1028 holy shit same!!!!!!! :( its worth it though seeing as they make roughly 600,000-900,000$ a year

  • @plrbear1028 That the only thing that holding me back. I'm 22 and scared this is the only choice i have but i don't want to be in college my whole life :(

  • How old is too old to start?

  • Thanks for the heads up! :)

  • This is my dream job, to become a radiologist, if that don't work out i will major in Game Designing.

  • Good luck!

  • i think radiologist will be better

  • This informotion is realy good, thanks for taking your time and share your information.I am a pre-rad tech and i hope to use this information as a guide.than you
