Linda Ronstadt is obviously the superior voice here. Cher could never sing her ex husband Sonny even said it, she was mainly about appearances and obsession about how she looked. Linda and Cher are a complete mismatch vocally but everyone has a different opinion about singing.

Oh, boo hoo, I don't give a hoot about Linda Ronstadt's Cajun ballad. I always fast forward the first 27 seconds or so because I can't stomach her squeaky voice. She has no business singing a rock(ing) song, other than being the higher voice in a two-part harmony (like here). Cher, on the other hand, has charisma, a powerful voice that isn't squeaky, and an undeniable stage presence. Fortunately, any time Ronstadt threatens to put me to sleep, Cher picks up the pace. This is Cher's performance.

NO WAY, JOSE!! after her success with sonny fizzled out, and having her own [brief early 70s success on the charts], cher was nothing more than a television/las vegas lounge act star! VERY limited vocal skills.LINDA RONSTADT? the highest paid female recording star of her day! performing to sold-out arenas and ampitheatres, 3 of her albums hitting #1,while all her others landed in the top 5, grammy awards, ama's, cma's, every man's dream girl! Talent aside, Cher utterly upstaged Linda here. Linda has a better voice, but Cher is about 5 inches taller, and she's so slinky and splashy waving all that hair around {I thought that she was going to whip Linda on the face!], she's definitely in her medium, while poor Linda looks like a fish out of water. Her gown and hair looked awful. Don't me wrong, Linda is prettier than Cher, but that perm and gown don't go with her natural wholesome country girl prettiness.

Why are all these linda fans so cranky? Cher is a first class ENTERTAINER not just a singer, she's a worldwide superstar so no need to compare their voices! The fact that she's lasted for 50 years in show bizz is the biggest accomplishment any entertainer/singer/actor could dream and she's done it! Amen!

@Brenda655 Cher's been 50 years in the business, had SOLD OUT concerts around the world, a top grossing tour, hits in each decade, top rated TV shows and an Oscar winning movie career! So your point was??? I've seen her live and i can tell you that the voice and her energy are amazing! She's one of few artists that can gather a crowd of all ages, from kids to old folks! On the other hand, Linda might be a great singer but she's not an entertainer and let alone a famous one!

woah now. just read the comments after watching and boy are people wrong. first off why are people pissed at Cher in this? she's just being herself if you watch any old vid she's in she always dances about like that. and i doubt her microphone is purposefully louder than Linda's. when Cher used to sing back up she up to stand way back from the microphone than the others because her voice was too loud! Cher has a deep contralto range they are completely different so no need for comparision...

It's obvious to anyone that's familiar w/Linda that she's pissed off/upset, at least at the beginning. My guess is that Cher was an obnoxious b#tch backstage, & said/did something to try to throw Linda off her game!! Also, Cher's microphone was louder than Linda's, but Linda recovered towards the end. When Linda finished her first vocal part, looking upset, & it switched to Cher -w/her "I'm ALL THAT attitude"- I wanted Linda to smack her off the stage. I wish she would have decked the b#tch!!!

How often does Cher hit high notes/falsettos? Aside from that, IMO Linda's voice has more warmth & sensitivity, & she chooses songs that touch the heart-not, "Look at me, I'm a bad-ass feminist bitch". Record sales have LITTLE to do w/musical talent (Lady Gaga)!! Teenage girls love ATTITUDE, & overt sexual behavior-& they buy most records!

These two are great together ... they both have amazing voices with range, power and emotion. Compare these voices to the vocoded and studio enhanced voices that we hear from some singers today. Cher's show was so unique in that she had on rock stars that other variety shows would not.

Style wise, it's obvious that this is geared more towards Cher's fashion sensibility than Linda's. However that aside, the two are actually very good together when it comes to belting out a song and singing as a duo......

Both women have strong voices (and know how to carry a tune) and let's face it folks, in this day of lip syncing and auto-tuning, it's quite refreshing to hear people who can sing and damn well I might add!.

These ladies could both put some of today's "artists" to shame......

@zachrodz - Me too, amazing what she can do when she gives it her all, or is standing next to someone that ups her game. For years she could kind of coast singing next to Sonny (esp. during the show) they'd hear him and wonder what they were watching as he read the cue cards, and then Cher would come in to do her part and the difference was such a relief you sat up and went, "Oh, now this one....she's good!" For me the live singing she did during her own show was some of the best she's done.

Very cool discovery! I never would have expected Linda to sing Drift Away but I kinda like what she does with it. I also like that she was willing to match Cher in the hair and costume department. Something very different from Ms. Ronstadt.
