  • great video now after watching it i cant wait to get my 57 back out on the range

  • Do you carry the 5.7 concealed or hunt with it?

  • @fike301 My FiveseveN is just used for relaxing at the range and dabbling with handloads. It would be cool to use it for Action Pistol competition but I'm not sure the other guys would appreciate the higher velocity bullets hitting their plates.

It's a little large for concealed carry but if the physical size as it relates to comfort were not an issue I would feel extremely well protected with this firearm.

  • @theKGB65 Higher velocity ...LMAO it' a .22mag It would never make Major Caliber, and that little round doesn't have the effect on steel that 115 gr 9mm bulk ammo has

  • @unknwnshooter It's a .22 Mag as much as a Glock is a plastic gun that gets through airport metal detectors.

Expensive heat treated steel doesn't fair well with bullet impacts at 2000+ FPS velocities.

  • How is the reloading? I hear they have a tendency to jam if the brass is not appropriately resized.

  • @BlackandChrome These are challenging to reload due to the small case volume and sensitivity to charge weight variances. Also, the coating that lubricates the case gets rough from the expansion of the brass when the cartridge is first fired so subsequent hand-loaded rounds don't always make the 90 degree turn on the PS90 mags and don't like to feed well for the first few shots if you try to run a full mag in the FiveseveN pistol.

Had a few loose primer pockets but never a resizing problem.

  • u got some skills

  • Love the video especially the slow motion. You can actually see the bullet and the trail it's making in the air :-D

  • Impressed. Nice gun. I couldn't shoot that far with my eyesite. Lol.

  • @Wleengineer07 That's coming quick for me, too. Seems like I won't be able to focus on the front sight in a few more years the way things are going.

  • excellent shooting my friend.

  • awshum

  • the price for it is killing me though :|

  • Can you put a suppressor on the FN 5-7 if you get a threaded barrel???

  • @TikiBillaBong1 Yes but I don't know what it takes to get the velocity sub-sonic. Probably some careful handloading with 55 grain bullets.

  • Very nice pistol. Great job on the video!

  • Was indecisive about getting one of these or trading in my AR and building a new one... Especially the fact that it's 1100 for a plastic pistol ;x But I can say that I amn for sure going to get one now.

  • the ending with the slowmo shots was sick!

awesome video and thanks for the review! :)

  • From 11:35 on was pretty cool.

  • I would buy one of these in a heartbeat. But buyer beware that the ammo is usually pretty expensive, with the norm being around 50-55 cents/round even for the cheap stuff.

If you handload, it gets a little better -- specially since you can use standard .224-bullets like in yer .223/5.56. :D

  • Great video friend. You covered answered almost all my questions. But i have one. I'm going to buy it for every day carry but i'm worried about it going through an attacker and hitting an innocent person or going through my aparment wall. What do you think. Thanks Again...

  • @DirtyDog887 These fast 40gn. polymer-tipped bullets are considered to be resistant to over-penetration.

Options such as custom 5.7x28 by companies like Elite Ammunition are beginning to show up on the market.

  • I like shooting at this distant as well and its so flat that it does it beautifully. I ususally shoot between 100-130 yards unsupported and can easily hit ispc targets at that range. an amazing gun and so fun to shoot.

  • I wish this is how it would sound like in mw3

  • WOW, that's a pretty gun!! Although you may not have been able to see it throught the viewfinder, from my perspective, you pierced his nose, lip, and gave him a tracheotomy. Nice shooting. Enjoy the pistol!!

  • @CrackaJack2200 Thank you for the autopsy! haha.

  • Is it good for home defense?

  • @Matashi911 Its what i use. Have light laser combo with 30 round mag.

  • nice i want one.

  • The slow motion is where it is at! Awesome!

  • good shooting ! I really enjoyed the vid. I always wanted a pistol that can shoot at 100 yards just because it could and I see that the FN is very capable of doing that. I've been debating on getting one and this video really helped me out. Thanks for the great review and video.

  • This may be a bit a a stupid question, but why is there a polymer tip on the ammunition? Does it affect it compared to having to polymer tip?

  • @DivineDestroid That's actually a very good question! Here's Hornady's explanation from their excellent web site:

    V-Max™

The industry's leading varmint bullet with polymer tip and streamlined design results in ultra flat trajectories. The match grade jacket design provides maximum accuracy at all ranges as well as explosive expansion, even at low velocities.

  • I have been reloading for a while and am thinking of trying my hand at the 5.7 so i can start saving some money. Could you do a video on loading them?

  • @07devildoc If you search my YouTube channel uploads for "5.7" you'll see a (sort of) handloading video that I made back in 2010. Not a lot of substance but I feel like I'd have to really dig in before I'm qualified to make a detailed informational video.

There are so many little tricks to this cartridge that guys are coming up with. I'd like to look into super-gluing the bullets in an attempt to get more consistent velocities. Factory ammo seems to be better than handloads in this respect.

  • I am a straight 1911 .45 bigot, but after trading my used poly framed pro tenII for an IOM USG NIB and after firing I wouldn't have it any other way... My remaining prized 1911's are relegated to target shooting and display. That kimber was great but the five seven is a master of a pistol with hardly any equal in long range accuracy that isn't a light carbine or rifle. wonderful and very informative video video.

  • @booyalakasha1 Well, that's pretty cool, you definitely have both ends of the spectrum covered now!

  • @inversionessantosmon Risky life in Columbia:

If i have a jericó 941 which is a relatively good weapon . but when i had to use it is that his power is minimal in relation to the weapon with which you are shooting at one . coming out of a difficult area of my country in the department of caqueta we attempted to storm is that the robbers came with ak47 and some with m16 rifles that are Freeform for bandits. imagine how we was thanks to the preparation of the driver succeeded in getting out well .

  • YOu use a 10 rounds restricted mag or a standard 20 round?

  • @Ratkill9000 20 round mag's but once fired brass won't feed if you load them full. The chemical they coat the factory cartridges with gets a rough-ish texture from expanding in the chamber and it won't come off with polishing media.

  • What rounds would you use for CCW? Do they make a hollow-point for this round?

  • @rockstarr469 I'd feel well protected using SS197 40-grain V-max polymer tipped factory ammo.

You probably wouldn't want to use the 27 grain SS195LF frangible hollow point ammo for self defense, that's intended more for use as a lead-free indoor practice round.

  • @DicesAreRed Thank you. That is a good remark because the fit and finish of the FN firearms are very H&K-like.

Recently held an HK416 for the first time and it was so beautiful in every detail that if I owned one I'd want to display it in a glass case.

  • Wow great shooting, good video. Lmao, varmit grenades!

  • @GrantP1986 We hunt with Barnes copper X-bullets, we call those - "Deer Grenades".

  • I like those orange targets. Did you make those yourself or were they bought? Any details?

  • @03xUSMCx11 Those are hardened steel pepper-poppers that were left behind by a group of law enforcement officers who had been training at the range. Normally they flip back easily when hit and then slowly reset but the ones on the left side were angled forward on a slight hill and wouldn't operate properly.

  • Is the FN five-seven legal in california?

  • @Minataro57 It doesn't seem like anything is legal in CA anymore.

California won't like the thumb-hole stock, overall length, or the flash suppressor.

  • @theKGB65 Strike that, I was thinking of the FN PS90 - wrong video.

  • @Minataro57 yea, but the mag is 10 rds instead of 20.

  • @Minataro57

yes it is legal in California,

it is on the California safe handgun roster.

  • @Minataro57 Please ignore my reply, answering lot's of questions and PMs - I mistakenly thought this was in regard to my FN PS90 video. My mistake.

  • i by no means am trying to disrespect but does this gun feel kinda flimsy or cheap... it seems like there is a lot of polymer or plastics surrounding the whole piece... to me if i dropped it, then it might seem likely to scratch of get damaged easier.. tell me how you feel

  • @JimBoopLoop i thought the same thing might be true also. But after now owning one for over 3 yrs i'm now a firm believer in the toughness of space age polymer technology. Polymers are definitly not the same as cheap plastic you find in kids toys. Imo polymer is much more durable than steel and totally corrosion resistant.. have no wear or scratches that can be seen in over 3 yrs of owning mine. something i can't say about my stel gun. Also to let you know its light but well made

  • @lamont0414 right thanks for the insight i love these guns

  • esta a toda madre la fusca

  • I can hear the Space Shuttle taking off in the background...

  • @TommyHolly1 Unfortunately we don't have any of those any more. I think you hear wind in the microphone.

  • @tophiloliver Wind, or traffic on the highway, maybe. I placed barricades with a "SILENCE! - YouTube video in progress" sign across the road, but nobody cared.

  • 2000 fps on a p90 rifle barrel , with a 4 and a half inch barrel you are looking at about 1450fps

  • @XpensiveHobbies

Accurate Powder's published handload data for a 5" barrel, 1 in 9" twist:

    No.7, 40 HDY V-MAX-- 6.1 grains - 1,679 FPS, 6.8 grains - 1,880 FPS

    No.7 35 HDY V-MAX FB-- 7.4 grains 2,041 FPS, 8.2 grains - 2,197 FPS

  • talk about a dream shooting range

  • I wonder what you could shoot with a 3-4 inch extended barrel and a 3x mini scope on the top of sorts..

  • @dillondailynews I think they have a name for that... Thompson Contender, haha. Yea, that really would be a nice option for this package, maybe I should try using my EOTECH on this thing and see if it helps at long range.

  • I have a question about the fn five-seven. I was reading this on one of the online store where they sale FNH weapons and came across these...."Factory sighted-in to shoot 1-inch low at 21-feet with SS195LF ammo, and 3-inches below line of sight with SS197SR ammo."

Why did they decide to do this?

  • @waimanjr Any gun sighted to 25 yards will shoot low at only seven yards because of the height of the sights above the bore axis but the fact that they would say where it hits with what ammo seems unusual, especially since these have adjustable sights.

  • @theKGB65

    fivesevenammo (.com)

this is the website where i found the information. But even at 21ft you would still be able to hit the target dead on....regardless of ammo, right?

  • @waimanjr Okay... That model has fixed sights and they are just telling you how they're set up from the factory. If your reason for buying one of these is self-defense only and use it for shooting combat sized targets and steel plates you'd be perfectly fine. If you like to shoot tiny little targets like I do, having the fixed sights that print 3" low at 21 feet with the SS-197 would drive you insane. You wouldn't be able to index on a small target because it would be hidden behind the sights.

  • @theKGB65

alright, i see now. So i would want to get the adjustable ones because i will be shooting both small and big targets. Do you know if it would be better to have adjustable night sights?

  • @waimanjr I've got adjustable night sights on my Glock 20C but I don't thing they're all that essential, just cool looking. The factory adjustable sights on this FiveSeven are very nice but if you have your heart set on combat night sights you could buy an aftermarket set of fixed night sights that are the proper size for point of aim accuracy with the SS197.

  • @theKGB65

thanks for the help. hope i will get mine soon.

    thank you!

  • Awesome! Great vid. *like*. I'm getting my probationary pistol licence soon- this might have to be my first pistol. They're US$1900 here in Austrlia

  • @tfre3927 Good to hear! If you have caliber bore diameter restrictions in your country then this would be a good one to go with.

  • Great video, I really enjoyed it. Easily the best review/shooting video of the 5.7 I've ever seen.

  • @nominalvelocity Thanks, I should have scripted this one to keep it moving along but I'd originally only intended on showing what it could do on steel at long range.

  • I love my Five-seveN. It is probably one of the best handgun ever made in my opinion. I did a video on mine about a month ago. I talk about the short history about it, shoot it, and talk about its uses. Check out my channel if anyone is interested.

  • at 10:00 you can actually see the bullets flying towards the head (look at the left side of the video). What's the fps rating on that lead-free ammo?

  • @JohnTheRipper2 That's the bullet trace you're seeing. Muzzle velocity for the 27 grain lead-free is 2100 FPS.

  • Wow, non choppy slo-mo, thats a first on youtube !!! excellent video!

  • Hornady Custom Grade "New Dimension" full length dies and Accurate #7 powder because they were the only company to publish data when I started with this caliber. If there is a company that makes non-coated shell casings for 5.7x28 I would very much like to give them a try. Until then, just wash or hand clean the brass because I haven't heard of a process for removing the coating as of yet.

  • Which bullet die and shell holder have you been using to reload? Also, which powder have you had the best results with? I bought an RCBS die/shellholder and the clearance is too tight with the lacquer on the brass (it crushes the brass and the shell holder damages the ejector lip)... Everything I've read, they say not to remove it. What do you suggest?

  • One word to describe it - 'surgical' ... apparently these things are legal down here in Australia..... I WANT ONE !!!!! :-)

  • @oneoctavelow You should have one of every gun that's legal down there!!! Wonder why this one would be legal, must be the small caliber.

  • Damn those rounds were fast !!!

  • @oneoctavelow Yea, gravity doesn't get much time to work on those little pills when they get to the target, like... NOW!

  • great vid im highly interested in picking me one up soon as i get approved for my license...

  • @tomamamao It's a little pricey and costs a lot to feed but it sure is an interesting firearm; high quality, too. Have fun.

  • Great video, thanks for posting! What kind of camera did you use to get the slow-mo shots?

  • @AmendmentNo2 Thank you, it's my Sony Handycam, HDR-CX110. It only allows three seconds of slow motion so you have to push the record button and get on the trigger fast.

  • Right as I said "Wow, that really was a great video", the candy came up at the end and I said "HOLY CRAP THIS VIDEO JUST GOT 10x BETTER AND IDK HOW IT COULD!"

  • @Jak12600 Then it's a good thing I stopped at the mini-mart on the way to the shooting range!

  • I had to watch this again to see your slow motion. Somehow I missed the candy on the first go-around!

This was just a great video; so many elements to it.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Thanks, if only I had shortened it by about twelve minutes! Ha, ha. Yea, the candy was definitely put in for you. Your video with Artisan Tony had me hooked on this stuff for a while, had to go through detox to shake the Wonka monkey off my back.

  • I really enjoyed your video. Thats a really fascinating gun. The rounds look like rifle rounds. I wonder what the non armour piercing rounds would be like as a defensive load. I've looked but haven't been able to get any info on that.

  • Sweet gun and a great video. I didn't know about the hammer in the 5seven. What does it cost you to reload vs. buying standard ss197 from FN? I've looked at buying this gun for a long time but I always seem to go back to the price of the ammo that sways me against it.

  • @wolvee123 Not exactly sure on the current price, it depends on what kind of bulk deal you can get on .224 bullets in 35 to 40 grains. It's about the same cost as hand-loading 9mm with premium bullets. The catch is that you really have to be into reloading tiny little soft brass, crimped primer, bottle-neck cases. The luster is starting to diminish for me but it was an interesting challenge getting into this caliber. Last time I checked, factory new 5.7x28 was going for around $21 for 50.

  • Good shooting!

  • @lovesigsauer Thanks, I see by your user name that you are a Sig guy. I tried to make a video with my P226 yesterday but there was too much activity at the range. I'll bring it out again soon.

  • Outstanding video! Great explanation, presentation and great use of the slow motion video. Keep 'em coming! Like most on here, I would love to afford this gun. Not real "pretty", but it is definitely cool.

  • @hungdaemon Thanks for the support, I'll try to keep the camera rolling. Oh, and just for the record, Obama made me buy this gun.

  • oh I almost forgot what would this model generally cost?

  • @leakyvalve $900 to $1000 Best to watch for sale prices on these.

  • If you watch closely you can see the bullet travel

  • @leakyvalve That's the air pressure disturbance caused by the high velocity bullet. It's one of the reasons I find the FN USG so interesting, it's smoking fast muzzle speed.

  • Thanks I looked on midway cause I always get my bullet heads from there guess I didn't look hard enough thanks again

  • @catlinm123 You can buy the 40 grain Hornady V-Max in bulk packs of 250 from Midway.

  • were do you buy all your reload bullets and cases and primers?

  • @catlinm123 There are several sources for that stuff that I use depending on price and availability. Bullets for this cartridge have been from Midway USA, primers are a bulk, group purchase, powder is either local or bulk, and casings are just my empty factory rounds.

  • man i wish i could afford one of these. Perfect raccoon gun.

  • @SupremeAmerican Obama's administration tried to ban these after the Fort Hood shooting. That is the sort of impending legislation against the 5.7 is what lead me to hurry up and get one while they were still available. We really won't have to worry about that happening in the next couple of years, though. Time is on your side.

  • KGB, these bullets are that quick and sharp it wouldnt be good for self defense yeh?

  • @gshdrums The polymer tipped Hornady V-max bullets mushroom like a hollow point in test media because of the very high velocity. Supposedly these do work well for that purpose and some law enforcement agencies are using this cartridge, including the US Secret Service (P90). It must be starting to get cold down there in Australia by now, hey? Now it's our turn in the sun!

  • @theKGB65 Yeh the last month its started....mind you it only gets to about 2 degress minimum and thats usually at 4am when everyone is asleep, in the day and normal night its about 9 absolute minimum.....so still nothing like your winter.....But it has been raining alot which is helping us!

  • @gshdrums That's pretty cool... Celsius temperature, southern hemisphere, half way around the world, and to think that all of our YouTube shooting bud's are only seconds away on the keyboard.

  • I've seen this gun in movies, Look's alot Larger.

  • @TheLowrid3r It has a fairly long grip section to accommodate those long, mini-rifle cartridges.

  • Holy crap man, you really worked the slow-mo on that Sony CX-110; I have never tried that. You could very much see the vapor trail. Were you slowing down those segments any further, or were those the raw files?

And what's all that green stuff in your videos nowadays?

  • @tnoutdoors9 The slow clips were shot in the SMTH SLW REC mode and then stretched to their maximum using Sony Vegas. It was really a thrill to see bullet trace from a pistol when I was reviewing the raw video.

That greed stuff goes with the red welts on my arms, mosquito season. Thank you for checking this out!

  • Have you shot your 5.7 over a chronograph? Can it be hopped up to FNH's intended velocity?

  • @windflags Yes, sir. I've done extensive work on the chronograph. The pressure curve is way too wild to push these to the limit. Plus, the velocity range from a nice accurate load to maximum brass stretching pressure is relatively tiny. I've settled on a load with the 40 V-max that is at the low pressure end but, if I remember correctly, was still a bit warmer than factory, and it gives me dime sized groups from my PS90 at 25 YDS.

  • awsome video

  • @ocpistol Glad you thought so, thanks.

  • Bullet flight showed surprisingly well, you should do some more of that. Maybe some big, slow .45s.

  • @IanRI1911 These 40 grain pills are too small to be visible at this distance, what you are seeing is the air pressure disturbance which causes an optical refraction of the light in the bullet path. This phenomenon is known as bullet trace and is really only noticeable when bullets are traveling at rifle velocities. The big .45s are visible but will not be as spectacular on video. Tell you what, though, I'll cook something up and do flight comparisons of a .45 up to, maybe a .50 BMG rifle.

  • that is a very sexy gun.. i think i want one lol

  • @j0enasser Firearms... A sound investment, collect them all!

  • excellent video KGB,very entertaining, didnt feel like it was 13 mins long.nice slow motion..you need to sign off with the flame thrower, 500 mag every vid in slo-mo, now that would be end-all

  • @phishst1cks Did I really make a 13 minute long video?! I usually try for about four. I'll just have to make four one-minute videos in a row to make up the difference. That 10 gauge you have on your channel makes the 500 Mag seem like a Lady-Smith. What I'd really like to do is steal your sign-off..."I'M OUT".

  • Wow that round gets there quick, it's a whole new world chucking rifle lead out of a pistol. 2K fps or better, that'd be brutal on soft tissue!

  • Hey Brother, I see that you left the Oakley's at home this time, are you trying to tell me that your hearing is mire important than looking cool ;D my damn X Metal's get me every time, that's why I have a can of foam plugs stuck in the door panel of the truck. When packing I always forget that the glasses will end up killing my ears later, without the foam I'd be wrecked. Thanks for the in depth look at the 5.7, vie been curious about them for a long time, thought that they looked cheap until I

  • @1AbominAble1 It's funny you mentioned that because when I was getting geared up for this video I thought about your comment on the Oakleys from my SCAR 17s video. Yea, the Five-Seven has a pretty good muzzle report so I made sure I didn't make the same mistake with those glasses. Foam plugs are really good, I use them too, but when I'm on camera I've got to be able to hear myself mumbling and stuttering.

  • Want to see additional footage highlighting those shades. Where can I get a set? Good shooting by the way..........;)

  • @bronk5150 They are cheap UVEX mirror safety glasses, best protection when shooting steel. Since you like them so much I'll give you mine.

  • great shootin and loved the slow motion part... I just have to say DANG, thats a flat shooter! I may have prematurely dismissed the 5.7x28 haha may have to dig out some load data and reevaluate my standing with that little cartridge. Thanks for another fun vid KGB65

  • @skylined12 You bet! Thanks for watching and for the nice comments.

  • The slow motion part is awesome.

The FiveSeven is almost made of plastic completely. lol What's not plastic? Only the barrel, inner part of the slide and the springs. :D

Does it affect service length in any way? I could imagine that those types of constructions are weaker than full steel pistols.

    Great video.

  • @bfgguns I don't know about these FN pistols but some of the other polymer guns have proven to be almost indestructible, supposedly even after more than a million rounds. I can't afford to shoot a pistol to death so it doesn't matter to me, I just like the shape, feel, and light weight of these. Same with rifles, love the lightweight polymer.

  • Awesome video.

  • @222lagoon Thanks for saying so.

  • Neat. I am really loving the heavy pistols again after shooting my Colt 1911 70 :)

  • @ArtisanTony Colt 70 - Series, that's a nice gun you have, there. Don't see too many of them for sale these days.

  • @theKGB65 If your ever on Ten I want you to shoot it and see what you think!

  • Good job,The slow motion was good. Thanks for your time Good info on your videos.

  • @mcrafton89 Thank you for watching this.

  • Trick to catching bullet trace is focus the camera lens 8-12 yards in front of the target. Aim it high and over the target right shoulder to see it.. Trace is clearly seen in the earlier hours when there is a high humidity. Are those goggles from HALO?;)

  • @bronk5150 No, they're the next generation of Blue-Blocker and chicks really dig 'em. Actually, these are the only kind that don't push out on my hearing protection.
