Ok, so admitting fanboy-dom, and how that artist wins outright regardless of competition, kinda drops u a peg. This is BEST, NOT FAVORITE, amirite? As for the needledrop comparisons in the comments. Well obv Anthony trumpet this kid in reviews n knowledge. But its nice to see a list, any list, with the hopes of pickin up sumthn new ya mighta slept on otherwise. C+ for effort.
@twatalazooser yes they do, but at times i do believe that at times der musical ability is good butnot dat good at sucking dick dey bad ad dat sum times k
Foo Fighters: yuck! - Dumbo Gets Mad: great, Great, GREAT!- HipHop generally sucks nowadays - Crystal Method, Crystal Castles, Crystal Dicks, Tits and Cunts and now Crystal Stilts: fucking wrong name & music - Don't even try to listen to a band named Death Grips, sorry - Balkans: 08/15 rock, boring like The Strokes - Deerhoof: yaaawwwn - Radiohead great as always, a slow burner - Battles simply no - Conte: stupid grinning idiot, see Pomplamoose
@MrBaebel Mostly agree with you. But Hip-Hop doesn't "suck nowadays", if you believe that. You know nothing about Hip-Hop or just watch too much mainstream MTV music videos. And if you won't listen to listen to something because of its name (Death Grips) then you are definitely missing out in my opinion. Death Grips is intense, but they do kick major ass.
you should check out stoupe the enemy of mankinds new projects dutch an vespertina . some of the best hip hop / jazz influenced experimental pop ever . stylistically mildlly reminisent of dan the automators lovage project, but the content interlly stands alone from that .
I didn't know Jack Conte so I checked out one song of his, Yeah Yeah Yeah, and it sounds like wimpy laptop emo to me. Is the rest of his music like this?
@teoferrazzi Yeah Yeah Yeah sounds NOTHING like everything else he's done. Pretty sure that was a video-only rethinking of a song from his first EP. Pretty sure he doesn't use any synths on the new record.
Phew, I thought you were going to put Bon Iver, and contradict your synth 'hate' on the Worst Album list. If you like 70's rock, what do you think of The Elected album? Sam Beam said 70's was what he was going for on his latest. I liked it, but you didn't.
you gave me better hope to becoming a music reviewer on youtube, especially with our age similarity. fantastic list, btw. props for the shabazz palaces record, obviously.
Wild Beasts - Smother, Battles - Gloss Drop, The Weeknd - House of Balloons, Laura Stevenson & The Cans - Sit Resist, James Blake - S/t, Burial - Street Halo EP, Colin Stetson - New History Warfare 2: Judges, tUnE-YaRdS - WHOKILL, Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie XX - We're New Here, Shabazz Palaces - Black Up, The Streets - Comp & Blues, Metronomy - English Riviera, PJ Harvey - Let England Shake, Radiohead - KoL, *shels - Plains Of The Purple Buffalo, Submotion Orchestra - Finest Hour
I agree with having Radiohead KOL, it's a great album. Also I don't understand where everyone gets the idea that Death Grips is so inaccessible, yes the guy somewhat "screams" but it's not like metal screaming or anything, just talking loudly, from first listen I loved it.
My favorite album of the year so far is hands down: Shabazz Palaces - Black Up. Easily one of the best and most consistent hip-hop albums I've ever heard since 'Madvillainy' or 'Stankonia'. I can't wait to see what comes next out of that project!
i think metal this has been some what mixed you have good albums this year from bands like Liturgy, Devin Townsend,Between the buried and me and Wormrot
but then you have does really crappy albums like the new morbid angel album
these are my 10 favorites Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues, Radiohead - The King Of Limbs, PJ Harvey - Let England Shake, James Blake - James Blake, Bon Iver - Bon Iver, The Antlers – Burst Apart, Panda Bear - Tomboy, Pains Of Being Pure At Heart - Belong, Destroyer - Kaputt, Arctic Monkeys - Suck It And See
I find it sad that the new Journey album Eclipse hasn't gotten much attention. It's very experimental & in my opinion it's the best thing they've ever done.
@jgil1966 And that's what angers me to no end. Most people just know them as the band that did Don't Stop Believin, and as a result a lot of their stuff isn't taken seriously. There's a ton of stuff from them that's way better, and frankly Eclipse puts Don't Stop Believin, Open Arms, Faithfully & all those other overplayed classic rock staples to shame. Most people don't know that they started out as a straight-up jazz-fusion prog-rock band. I like to think of myself as a Journey hipster.
Would have liked to see helplessness blues or hot sauce committee part 2 or anything other than that god awful foo fighters CD, but it is your list so w/e
Solid list. But with all due respect, I disagree with your comment about 2011 being a lackluster year for metal music. Half the year has gone by, and albums from bands like Gridlink, Cave In, The Gates Of Slumber, Deafheaven, Autopsy, Disma, and the new Yob album have set new ground for metal to come. To each their own, cheers
Nice list, not really my thing, but I can respect it. I do think metal has actually been quite good this year, granted that's what I listen to a lot so you're probably a lot more picky/selective than I, but it is certainly worse than last year.
Check out: Aenaon, Altar of Plagues, The Axis of Perdition, Blut Aus Nord, or Orthodox for some good metal (imo).
