@soapyCatfish Thanks! IA111 is an interesting project. Well done!
No, I've moved on to much more challenging projects, I am currently trying to automate a Hexakopter to fly around indoors as part of my doctorate (have a look at my more recent videos)
Hi I'm working on a similar project for my degree and currently decided to use c++ to program and using a MN5010HS GPS module and a GPS antenna. I was wondering If I could have a guide on this? Thanks.
very good job you have done here. Could you please send me the code/guide? i will be working on the project and want to see how you manage ports, coordinates, registers, etc...Thank you.

Nice piece of work stefan.....i myself was stuck with the coding part....can u pls send me the code.....im working on smething similar...thnks in advance!!!
Hey there! I was really happy to find this vid, cuz' i'm working on the same project. I'm using a Forerunner 201 and a model RC plane. I would like to ask you more about the communication with the Garmin. Thnaks
Way cool! Now if you could send it a new location via Bluetooth and have it go there, that would be totally awesome. Next time post a link with all the info you want to share to help everyone out without having to PM everyone.
hi..there Stef.. I really impressed when I saw your robot on the internet. It looks like a very interesting project. I live in Liverpool England and I am looking for similar ways to navigate a robotic boat across a large lake. I would really appreciate any technical help that you could give me as I'm new to all of this technology. Example: How does the gps transfer the information to make the wheels turn? Or rudder in my case..Thanks
wow this is really nice! how did you connect the gps device and do u need to have any connection to the robot ie a controller? do you just input the co-ordinates and the robot navigates to the programmed destination? please pm me a guide if you can. thank and awsome vid :D
couldn't u compensate for the 6 Meters by adding or removing 6?
But yah then whats the point for using GPS it will be inaccurate uhh yah.. well GPS is primitive technology needs to be re-amped a bit in the future to be more useful
this would be good for planes autopilot air GPS routes
yah i know the resolution of gps is gapped but like all technology it gets deeper and deeper in the pixels. hd tvs and soon HD GPS.. haha.. like the intel chip a transistor is 45,000 Atoms and it was around alot of billion atoms each at the first Pentium processor but now getting smaller and smaller.
Pity the batteries only lasts about 15-20 minutes. Perhaps if there was a second robot that replaced the batteries on the go... or even better be one of the first solar powered robots in DARPA!
I'm doing a similar project and I would really like to get the source code ..this is my email address, I hope to contact you as soon as possible...I'd really appretiate this favour.
This reminds me of the robot in Star Wars. Where the storm troopers are on the ship, and they are following that little robot. Thats supposed to lead them to their destination. Also, how much money did you spend on this project, I know it most of cost a few hundreds, 5 stars!
Due to the GPS only sending out data every second or so, the robot needs to guess how long to steer for. It copes well with large turns, but tends to steer too much when doing smaller corrections.
So what you are seeing is that it realises it is slightly off-course, tries to correct but steers too much. So in the next cycle it tries to correct and might turn too much the other way and the cycle goes on.
I did a very similar project, check it out: IA111 gps (search at youtube)
Are you still working on it?
Good job!

Nice Job! I did something similar with an R/C boat. I was amazed at how simple and easy the basic stamp was to program.
btw can I get a copy of your source code? I'd eventually like to put this in an R/C plane.

Why Is the movement so erratic?
theracisthero 2 years ago
The robot only gets a heading update every second. This makes it difficult for the robot to settle on the correct heading.
On top of that there are also GPS errors, where the receiver may temporarily give slightly erroneous data to the robot.

sspoke 3 years ago
The problem is one doesn't know which direction the error is currently in, so simply adding or removing 6 metres would not work.
True, GPS is designed for navigation rather than direct control.

Hooking up to a GPS module is not as difficult as you may think. I'll PM you a quick guide.
Thanks for the comment!

Thank you!
Most of the stuff that I used was just lying about.
I think that if you went and bought all the sensors and the stamp it would come to around $200-$250
That would be:
Basic stamp $50 (US price on Parallax website)
Foretrex 101 around $100-$150
Ultrasound sensors £10 each - Stefanw

why is it swinging from left to right? caused by gps accuracy?
alchemyx 4 years ago
Thank you for your comments!
A bug in the coding more than anything.
