I watched an episode the other night where the preemie had a fever and starting having seizures. It always enrages me when people through their selfishness and ignorance cause pain and even death sometimes to children. The problems this baby had was nature and God's way of saying "enough!" The human uterus is not like a rodent where it can have multiple liters. I feel sorry for Michelle hubby keeps pimping her out so he can have a TV show. Parents were in El Salvador when the baby got sick.

A COUPLE DECADES ago, it was ok to have so many children. In poor countries with low rates of security (primary reason for high numbers of offspring in animals) it is ok to have so many children. In lower tech countries/cultures in which the avg persons impact is low (someone in polynesia consumes x energy/year or x amount of post consumer materials/year)

I think that it's very sad that people keep bashing this beautiful family. Everyone says that they are biting off more then they could chew, and are "selfish" for having so many children but what about the single mothers on welfare who can't afford to support their families, don't know who the fathers are, and don't really care how they raise their children? But - & I admit that I have 0 experience at parenting, & have never raised children - If the women keep on producing kids until their middle years, ( 40's ) there's a good chance that one of the children might be born with Asperger's / Autism, or perhaps Down's Syndrome, & if they don't have the financial, physical & emotional resources to handle such a child or children, that could cause trouble for them.
I know young couples that have had to raise ONE child w / a sensory deficit, learning impaired, physically disabled, & if they don't have resources to cope with it, that can rip a couple apart. I HOPE that such a thing DOESN'T happen to them, or if it does, that they have the resources to cope with it. Having children later in life can have those results.
Another idea: Jon & Kate - Do you think being on reality TV affected THEIR marriage ? I never watched their show, & I only followed the Duggars from blogs. The most interesting TLC reality / documentary show is " Little People, Big World ", the husband is an idealist with his head in the sky, the wife is more of a realist. ( & I forget their names..... Thats the roloff family here in Oregon, they were known locally because of the farm before they did the TLC show. Thier marriage seems pretty solid. I think what happened with jon/kate is Kate became all about the attention and Jon didn't like it, she was all about humiliating him on camera so he did what he did..not really making excuses for cheating but kind of am I guess.
About the Duggers, I give them a ton of credit, they raise thier children the way they see fit...following the guidelines of thier religion in spite of what the rest of the world does. Those kids are not suffering, they are well educated, they play piano and violin, they read for enjoyment and not because they have too. They don't dress to impress because they don't worry about peer pressure.

But what they say about the Pill... it sadly is true that it is the cause of many miscarriages, and it has also led to the huge rise of breast cancer in recent years. It only works 99.8 percent of the time if used correctly, so on the offchance that a family gets pregnant, the baby that's been conceived has all these hormones from the pill fighting against it, and then forces a miscarriage.

A COUPLE DECADES ago, it was ok to have so many children. In poor countries with low rates of security (primary reason for high numbers of offspring in animals) it is ok to have so many children. In lower tech countries/cultures in which the avg persons impact is low (someone in polynesia consumes x energy/year or x amount of post consumer materials/year)
This is disgusting. I wish people were forced to engage in the current knowledge we as humans have, in this case anthropology, why so many?

Popping out kids evey year and passing them off to be raised by one of your other children. How does this make sense? Your'e constantly pregnant, which I do not believe human bodies are built to withstand without repercussions, and then after giving birth you don't even take time to raise the creature yourself. What is the point of having so many children? If this were a perfect society, families like this would not exist. It goes against reason, which should be punishible by death.

I think that it's very sad that people keep bashing this beautiful family. Everyone says that they are biting off more then they could chew, and are "selfish" for having so many children but what about the single mothers on welfare who can't afford to support their families, don't know who the fathers are, and don't really care how they raise their children? This "Quiverfull Movement" is quite odd and strikes me as fearful white ethnocentrism more than anything else.
Long gone are the days of subsistence farming when one needs many kids for "labor." With the decline of the middle class in many parts of the US, both husband and wife often have to work long hours. The cost of EVERYTHING has gone up dramatically for many years, and many people can't afford kids even if they wanted to.

As for the "Quiver full" movement, I have blogged about that. I see the psychology behind it--a last ditch effort since America can't be changed, you gotta pump out enough kids of your own to change it. But - & I admit that I have 0 experience at parenting, & have never raised children - If the women keep on producing kids until their middle years, ( 40's ) there's a good chance that one of the children might be born with Asperger's / Autism, or perhaps Down's Syndrome, & if they don't have the financial, physical & emotional resources to handle such a child or children, that could cause trouble for them.

Thats the roloff family here in Oregon, they were known locally because of the farm before they did the TLC show. Thier marriage seems pretty solid. I think what happened with jon/kate is Kate became all about the attention and Jon didn't like it, she was all about humiliating him on camera so he did what he did..not really making excuses for cheating but kind of am I guess.

Those kids are not suffering, they are well educated, they play piano and violin, they read for enjoyment and not because they have too. @slicingwater I used to watch it all the time but I gave up on all reality shows and actually rarely turn on the tv now. I know they're creationists but if they werent happy there would be signs. I used to watch Jon/Kate+8 too and you could sure see how dysfunctional they were. I just think people should live and raise thier kids the way they choose too as long as they aren't hurting others &I can't see where they're hurting anyone.

@slicingwater One thing I do like about the Duggers is that if they quit tv and all interviews they could still support thier family because they planned by buying buisness prop they rent out. Jon/Kate, & Octomom have to stay on tv or give interviews to support thier kids the way they think they need to.

This is the most disgusting family. I would love nothing more than to see the Duggars in divorce court and child-custody hearings. Let's see if having all those kids was really worth it then when they start initiating proceedings for child support payments. I really hope the bottom falls out of thier marriage. i luv this family.. i had a privilage of being sort of mentored by a christian family, funny cause the mom looked like her, too.. they had the best children, homeschooled, and they jumped to help, were peaceful- fantastic wisdom for parenting this family is blessed too

littleprincess474 I did in fact meet the family once and it was awful! The children act like pre programed robots and you can definitely see that they are afraid of there parent's which make me wonder what has been done to them to make them that way. In the end they are not normal! I don't blame the Children I blame there psycho parents, who if they wanna get in on so much so get themselves fixed cause they are screwing up 17 beautiful children!!

I agree that they are pretty fanatical, and I do agree with most methods of birth control, in general. But what they say about the Pill... it sadly is true that it is the cause of many miscarriages, and it has also led to the huge rise of breast cancer in recent years. It only works 99.8 percent of the time if used correctly, so on the offchance that a family gets pregnant, the baby that's been conceived has all these hormones from the pill fighting against it, and then forces a miscarriage.
