can you tell me the electric piano you played at 2.26 mins into the video on the yamaha cp5.does the cp1 have a much better sounding acoustic piano than on the cp5.

What I'm now trying to work out is... what has this CP1 got that the CP5 does not have. It actually appears on paper that the CP5 offers far more than the CP1 - even though it is much cheaper! So what gives?!
ya but i get bass and drums and strings and piano at the same time..............its not THAT much better that people will notice.........not carrying around two heavy keyboards...... im fine........
played roland vpiano..... disappointing....... and played CP1..... nice but too expensive...... i have Yammy S70xs...... and can do MUCH more with it. piano's arent perfect...... but.... good enough in a mix
but the rd700gx has the VK organ modeler built in WITH drawbar control and all the key editing features. this does not have any organ or clavs. you need the next model up for that. this has wood keys which are cool but if they feel anything like yamaha piano action its nothing to write home about. i guess it will all come down to preference. the next model up has a lot from the motif series too, so it may be a better value.
@nmothin The closest to RD700gx is going to be the S90XS. CP1 is the flagship, then CP5 with more sample-based sounds. You're still totally right though and comparing instore is the best way.
The RD sure does have the clavs and organs. But if there's anything not worth writing home about, these are it! Not only are the sounds lackluster, but the heavy action also makes playing these sounds properly virtually impossible. I'm looking forward to trying out this keyboard, and that includes the keybed. I do however hope that the modelling will allow you to make the piano more gritty and wrong - yamaha DP's are just a bit on the too perfect side for me.
@nmothin The "next model up" is actually the next model down lol. I don't really get it, but the CP-5, which is roughly half the cost of the CP-1, is the one with the 300 additional sounds. Strange, but true. For the time being, it looks like the CP-5 is the better deal, at least to me. And this is a Yamaha, so you KNOW it's gonna feel amazing. :)
and also on the V piano there is no sampling, no recorded sounds. the cp1 piano sound is a sample at hear then they use modeling to liven it up by letting you adjust things like sympathetic resonance, hammer hardness, etc. but at the end of the day its like every other sample based piano only with more stuff to smooth it out. I feel like this is yamahas answer to the roland rd 700gx so when this hits the stores we can compare them. the rhodes sound i can tell is better already.
@nmothin There is sampling in the Vpiano. Don't believe vpiano is 100% virtual, because its not. You're right though, best thing to do is compare instore.

It seems too small to host a satisfactory action mechanism.

Finally! Some good looking instrument. Haven't seen anything good looking in this product category since Roland RD-1000. Thank you very much Yamaha!

@mysticradio Try yamaha CP5.. I believe with similar price the piano sound is much better than S70xs (without considering any other sounds anyway)

@manofmusicproduction Honestly Id go with the motif xs8 even if wanted only a piano. Great action tons of other sounds and for almost 1500$ less.

@nmothin es un piano digital no fue hecho para que tenga órgano, se tuviera órgano no se llamaría piano digital.

V piano only does 'traditional piano'. CP1 does electric pianos and vintage electric sounds too.
manofmusicproduction 2 years ago
@manofmusicproduction yes indeed, and the v piano is for pianists, concentrated only in acoustic pianos, but its a pro tool in what it is for

How does it compare with Roland's V-Piano?
