  • Bless you for posting this beautiful song and your wonderful video. Love them both.

  • Brilliantly evocative visuals, and wistful singing from the incomparable Jo Stafford. Thank you for posting this.

  • I wish Bob Dylan had stopped singing after his creative period ended, about 1965. If you think he could sing these 40's songs, you must be nuts.

I had the satisfaction of walking out of his concert at the San Francisco Masonic Auditorium in that year.

Dylan - a classic sell-out. But so are most of us, those who are still here.

Jo Stafford, on the other hand, was a REAL talented singer, not a sell-out. Columbia and Capitol records. Took the bus to work every morning.

  • Wanda, I love this video, makes me cry every time I watch for all the brave men who gave us our freedom so long ago. Not many of them left now. Your grandpa must have been very special.

  • Good tribute to your Grandfather...and Jo of course, Thanks

    Cheers.

  • I wish Bob Dylan would record these songs from the 40's and the big band era and WWII. His parents listened and he listened and a huge number of people are still alive and they are listening, and their children and their grandchildren and their greatgrandchildren. It's not impossible for a rock and roll idol to record these songs. It's a sort of folk music for a massive audience.

  • I would love to see Bob Dylan tackle some of Spike Jones's hits.

  • Beautiful pictures of the early fighter P40 Tomahawk, and the best fighter of WWII, the P51 Mustang.....not to mention of wonderful voice of Jo Stafford.......

  • oh my god...this song made me cry a little. her voice is so sweet and beautiful....so much talent, lord have mercy. where have all the jo staffords gone???

  • Me too am grandfather.I would like my grandchilds will remember me so. What tender and nice voice of Jo Stanford. Y qué hermoso tema. Gracias, Wanda.

  • No hay de que (^__^)

  • thank you so much , really wonderful

  • So glad you liked it!

  • What a wonderful tribute to your grandfather, and how fortunate that he left you with all those great photos. Jo Stafford is perfect to cap it all off.

  • (^__^)

  • Jo's voice always touched me. Today more than ever. I love this singer.

  • She died on Wednesday.

  • And thank you for liking the vid. It's my favorite.

  • Yesterday when I heard that she had passed away I immediately thought of the lyrics to this song which she sings to perfection! "When my life is through and the angels ask me to recall the thrill of them all, then I shall tell them I remember you".

What an excellent interpretation of that great lyric! Thanks for posting this.

  • Wanda, was your gramp in Luftwaffe during WW2 ?

Which unit was he from ?

(I thought to Luftwaffe, since you're German)

  • No, he wasn't. I am the product of both European and American nationalities.

  • Great pictures of the old WWII P40s and P51s.

    God bless your Gramps.....

  • Hello Wanda,

Thanks for sharing. You must have loved your grandpa very very much and he is closer to you now. He is your Guardian Angel.

    Tina

  • I wish I had seen this video earlier, that's a beautiful song, and awesome pictures! you must feel really proud of your Gramps, Wanda :-)
