Is that the actual color of the orchids? one of the "four gentleman" concept. Awsome. I think it was nice your assistant asked questions we, the students would ask?
I have to view all 9 pages!!! Thank you, for sharing your great gift.
Really the best!! I am here trying to make orchids to decorate my house, but cant do anything!!!Is not in my soul I thing...Could U send one of this for me?? rsrsrsrs The real gold is your hands!!
Sorry, I don't. Generally speaking they call it "Chinese Orchid" in farmer's market here in Los Angeles. It looks just like "big grass" but with small flowers that smell great.
Nice painting. Thanks for sharing. I actually prefer less talking in the videos. I found the lady's talk very disturbing while watching your painting. Just my 2 cents.
How do you get ligher and darker ink? I know you use more water for lighter, but what is the procedure? Do you dip the brush in dark ink, then dip the brush in water? Or do you have different shades of ink in cups? Do you use one brush for dark ink and another brush for lighter, or do you use the same brush and wash in between?
Some tips to beginners: 1)only use couple of drops of sumi ink for each small painting like this one; 2)load your brush with water first, then touch a little bit ink using the brush tip so it will start with dark stroke and then turns to lighter tones. The procedure, if any, is "clean the brush --> load lighter ink --> darker ink". You should repeat this procedure as your brush is exhausted.
In Chinese painting theory, there is saying, "Treasure your ink as gold" 惜墨如金. I always use as little as the black "gold" as possible. I would never dip my brush in the bottle.
Do you use ink sticks or do you get it from the bottle?

@mathsfreakXXL I used bottled ink for this painting I think, but I do grind ink with inkstick for my other paintings sometimes.
