@abedoon i dont believe in fiction , i think sticks turning into snakes , people walking on water , food falling from the sky are primitive and absurd stories , could make a good fiction movie.. so god is a fictional character .. like santa
I'm not an atheist but I want to see all this fundamentalist christianity gone from our politics. No room for organized religion to influence government decisions!!!
@BetaDeltaCebu "The internet killed christianity." <- I agree. Maybe there's even a correlation between drop in organized religion in the USA, and the movements in the Middle-East towards (some form of) democracy. That is, when people are free to communicate more with others, totalitarian control systems fall apart.
Adults still believing in fairy tales, myths and monsters and force their children to believe iin them too. It's beyond comprehension. Do adults still believe in Santa or the tooth fairy? How about Thor or Odin? Then why believe in God? Really..really...think about it.
Religious inflicted people ASSUME TOO MUCH. They lean on a 2000+year old ancient book written and rewritten by man made stories and delusional , imaginary feelings. Their thinking is distorted and are mentally confused. the burden of proof is on the believer not the disbeliever. churches are a waste of building materials and utilities.

Forums like this, where people can publicly discuss their views and remain anonymous allow people to come out and freely discuss. They can network, organize, exchange ideas, and provide each other emotional support and community without fear of sanction. People can explain their point of view, and not have to worry about being shouted down, threatened physically, or punished.
This is great news, and I have a couple of theories about why this is happening. I think the Internet may be playing a role. Theists will not hesitate to bully atheists into submission or silence. Christian bosses will fire atheist subordinates, Christian landlords will not hesitate to evict atheist tenants, and so on. If you were an atheist grade school teacher, would you openly admit to your class that you were an atheist? Good way to get fired...(cont)
Wouldn't it be nice to wake up one morning and find that Christians are the minority rather than the majority and they no longer pervade our government. I may not live to see it, but I hope my kids do.
Great news, It pleases me to know that religion is in a terminal decline. I think this was inevitable. In the future our descendants will remember how deluded most humans were.
How typical of a Xtian to phrase it that way - "The number of people who choose non-belief." As though you can just choose what you believe and what you don't.
Exactly. The only people who think you can "choose" to believe something are those who try to delude themselves into believing something they know is not true.
I laughed when I saw Louisiana as one of the only two with increases. Made me think of how difficult life must be for a free thinking atheist down there. Then, factor Jindal as their governor, and holy shit. RUN!
I live in Austin and people my age are fed up with organized religion.

I think the real reason people are becoming atheists is because religion is mythology.

YouGov, which is one of the most respected polling organisations has recently published a new poll on religious belief in the UK.
It's results show that 79% have no link with any religion and only 9% go to any form of formal worship.
Onwards and upwards.

Try being an atheist in Alabama. You WILL get shunned by even your closest family and friends.
