  • I live in Austin and people my age are fed up with organized religion.

  • @abedoon i dont believe in fiction , i think sticks turning into snakes , people walking on water , food falling from the sky are primitive and absurd stories , could make a good fiction movie.. so god is a fictional character .. like santa

  • there's hope for america yet, but please keep out that bible bashing texas governor from the white house.

  • it must be hard to be a non-atheist .. believing in imaginary friends , Really?

  • I just came

  • Always good to see some GOOD news in the headlines.

  • While I applaud the drop in religious belief, the fundie fanatics are still making noise banging their bibles louder than ever.

  • I'm not an atheist but I want to see all this fundamentalist christianity gone from our politics. No room for organized religion to influence government decisions!!!

  • The internet killed christianity.

  • You don't "choose" non-belief...

  • A few more witch burnings will whip our populace into shape.

  • Ever since the enternet christianity has been dying ...

  • @DarkBeauty1989 : Actually its the web. ^^

  • Christianity deserves this.

  • Congratulations Matt Dillahunty. You should run for president.

  • The Atheist Experience from Austin seems to have some effect. Congratulations Texas!

  • Christianity down 20% in Texas. Go atheist community in Austin! Represent.

  • I think the real reason people are becoming atheists is because religion is mythology.

  • this is some good news

  • YouGov, which is one of the most respected polling organisations has recently published a new poll on religious belief in the UK.

It's results show that 79% have no link with any religion and only 9% go to any form of formal worship.

    Onwards and upwards.

  • Adults still believing in fairy tales, myths and monsters and force their children to believe iin them too. It's beyond comprehension. Do adults still believe in Santa or the tooth fairy? How about Thor or Odin? Then why believe in God? Really..really...think about it.

  • And yet we're still stupid...

  • Try being an atheist in Alabama. You WILL get shunned by even your closest family and friends.

  • Forums like this, where people can publicly discuss their views and remain anonymous allow people to come out and freely discuss. They can network, organize, exchange ideas, and provide each other emotional support and community without fear of sanction. People can explain their point of view, and not have to worry about being shouted down, threatened physically, or punished.

  • This is great news, and I have a couple of theories about why this is happening. I think the Internet may be playing a role. Theists will not hesitate to bully atheists into submission or silence. Christian bosses will fire atheist subordinates, Christian landlords will not hesitate to evict atheist tenants, and so on. If you were an atheist grade school teacher, would you openly admit to your class that you were an atheist? Good way to get fired...(cont)

  • yes USA, follow Europe's example. There are several European countires where atheists actually make up the majortiy of the population.

  • As a European I have to admit this boosts my trust in the USA!

  • Maybe there is hope for America..

  • @TSM8088 maybe :)

  • Wouldn't it be nice to wake up one morning and find that Christians are the minority rather than the majority and they no longer pervade our government. I may not live to see it, but I hope my kids do.

  • @nosajj12345 like evolution, it just takes time and it looks like we're headed in the right direction!

  • You should be proud that religion is in decline, it means you stupid bloody yanks are now finally beginning to become educated!

  • Well that's a piece of good news. Maybe america's taking a step forward and growing up.

  • SATAN IS TACKING CONTROL

  • Chip Chip Cheerio

  • Hurray!!! People are going to be free of the shackles of religion!!

  • well, the world is getting better ;D

  • Sweet. People are realising they don't need religion to find god. Nice change.

  • Great news.

  • Wow, how wonderful!!

  • HOORAY!

  • Go Satan XD

  • It must be hard to be a non-religious person in Louisiana.

  • Great news, It pleases me to know that religion is in a terminal decline. I think this was inevitable. In the future our descendants will remember how deluded most humans were.

  • Atheist FTW!!!

  • How typical of a Xtian to phrase it that way - "The number of people who choose non-belief." As though you can just choose what you believe and what you don't.

  • right on vermont...they are progressing.

  • What a dumb fucking cunt ""people who choose non-belief"".... You cant Choose your beliefs.

I cant just tomorrow Choose to believe in Zeus or Allah.

  • She was just quoting some other guy but i agree with you 100%

  • Exactly. The only people who think you can "choose" to believe something are those who try to delude themselves into believing something they know is not true.

  • My mum used to pronounce Arkansas the way it's spelt. Made me wonder if she was educated there.

  • I know lots of fellow Atheists here in NJ. But NJ still sucks balls :/

  • I laughed when I saw Louisiana as one of the only two with increases. Made me think of how difficult life must be for a free thinking atheist down there. Then, factor Jindal as their governor, and holy shit. RUN!

  • I've read that Louisiana has an average IQ of 85.

  • lol

  • Yeah, and the country with the highest IQ of any country is Hong Kong.

  • @LordMalice6d9 Hong Kong is a city.

  • aww Arizona is still so backwards :(, good to see that more people are growing brains though :D
