You should read the book before seeing the movie. You'll get a better understanding. If you have already seen the movie, read the book. Some parts in the movie happen which aren't explained very well which in the book they are.

Yeah, it's a true story about John Grogan. To me, that made the movie even more sad that it wasn't really just acting...
