hi, I have studied with Hirsschorn, his last years of his life. He had 2 operations caused by braintumor. after the first operation he had to reduce his performing.
his recital of bach, geminiani, etc are so good due.... for the recital music i strongly suggest making them FLAC files...so no sound quality is lost... audacity is a free player where you can play those types of files...and of course always have the volume cranked!!! just remember to stop it soon before the thunder of the crowd explodes on you after his performance of Tzigane
Omgosh where is the other 40 minutes of the Paganini Concerto or the Senerade Concertante, or the Geminiani? I need to fly to Brussels and hunt for it! This is the best violinist ever...I hate saying best but man after listening to countless of each generation.. none have captivated me like Hirshhorn, .... Hassid, Ysaye, Shumsky, Seidel feed me but Hirshhorn has all the top concertos on recording.. His paganini, sibelius, tchaikovsky, brahms, beethoven, berg, are treasures...
For all the people interested into watching a little bit more of this documentary ( But not the WHOLE documentary ) you must go to veoh , type " Philippe Hirshhorn : tragic hero " and you'll the information. Unfortunately you'd have to download veoh client to see the whole thing, but it's free and definitely is not a waste of time.
A message to OriginalMoonbeam, please share the CD title with the rest of as well as where you bought it; thanks. (I also agree this piece as performed by PH is of the most sublime nature, it makes me shutter.)
This is not a piece I have heard often..I have come back here to listen numerous times and somehow I never want to hear anyone else play this again...it could never be the same
To all the people who are sending me private messages about Hirshhorn videotapes;I will upload them somwhen(brahms beethoven haendel)!I just need the time and the tools...and the will.. cause i just think some stuff shouldnt be "prostituted" on Utube.
I was his student.. would love to see more videos on youtube. He died indeed of a braintumor. In class he was a genius, or a terror, depending of his moods, but also very lonely, afraid and perfectionist. We were not allowed to sit in the frontrows at his concerts. I hear his voice every day I study, believe me!
i have other vids with hirshhorn...beethoven tripple, with geringas...beethoven trio with maisky when very young..some haendel concertos ...but its too much work putting on pc...
Your effort would be greatly appricciated by many music lovers, violin lovers and Phillippe Hirshhorn's lovers.... I was at his recital in Riga - Latvia, I loved his playing,I heard the magic, but I was to little to understand his really hypnotical powers.
Please, please ... we would love to hear some more
He passed away at age 50 of, apparently, a brain tumor. I don't know if he stopped long before, but he was also teaching violin at the Brussels Conservatory. There are several very, very good violinists nowadays, few have the same musical & technical gifts, but none of them has this magical, hypnotical, charistmatic power Hirshhorn had when he was playing. I think M. Maisky would agree with me ...
poor kremer almost crying...They where best friends since very small...same teacher same loves etc...a thrue man friendship...a mix of jalousy and admiration...
There are only 2 fragments where he is playing in this documentary and which are now on YouTube. There are a few scenes with an interview with him just shortly before he passed away, but I'm hesitating to put them online ... let's say that to me it is a matter of respect ...
Please, reconsider your decision and put some more videos of Hirshhorn on youtube. I think, the world should know more about such an amazing talent, his magical and beautiful violin playing. Me and my family are wathing these couple of videos over and over. We have heard him live in Riga - Latvia, when he was very young. It was magical
@twotea22 I think you are right about not posting everything. If people are interested in seeing the documentary they should earn that right by searching for it and purchasing it.
Philippe Hirshhorn is one the best but underrated violinists I've seen and heard. It is unfortunate that we did not hear much from him, in terms of recordings. I heard that he was a perfectionist. He didn't think that he was good enough. Footages of his performances are very hard to find indeed. So this video clip is a TREAT. Thank you for posting. This is very much appreciated. If you have more from this documentary, I would appreciate if you could post more of this on YouTube. Thanks again.
The video is a documentary is called "The Winners". 4 previous winners of the Queen Elisabeth competition of Music are interviewed many years later. The 4 winners here are Hirshhorn (v, 1967), Senofsky (v, 1955), Bezverkhny (v,1976)and Moguilevsky (p, 1964). I already posted 2 excerpts with Berl Senofsky and just posted another one where Mischa Maisky (cello) talks about Hirshhorn and where Hirshhorn is watching a video from himself playing Poème of Chausson.
A great artist . I had the pleasure of seeing and hearing him live in 1973-74 . Could you post more segments with him ? Perhaps the entire documentary ?

He reminds me so much of Josef Hassid, - also one who was taken from us way too soon.

@feroxcvpiditas
the problem is that it seems 'unpurchased'
it was a documentary in 1996 made by the german/french telivision Arte
i have it but on VHS, and nothing to read now
i think the queen elisabeth archieve has those performances from 1967..or the rtbf..i don't know..
but, as i have it in audio (1967 final), i think this is possible that they have it on video..
so..
one of the most remaquable hirschorn's performance is the bartok's chaconne..
all seems clear and understand AND submitted..
