The only passages that speak of eternal torment in the Bible is the Lazarus parable, and the punishment of Satan. It does talk about the SMOKE of the torment (during the wrath of God) going up forever. When a person dies, he ceases to exist. No thoughts, no experience. That's biblical. When a saved Christian dies, he is sleeping in God's eyes. He will be resurrected to everlasting life (because his sins are washed away); the unbeliever will be resurrected to eternal death, in the lake of fire.

Unfortunately the huge problem with this documentary is Dawkings himself. The fact that he's an atheist who has on many occasions stated his hatred of religion makes it impossible for him to approach the issue of faith schools in an impartial manner. Vice versa, If there were atheist schools and a religious person was making a documentary about them then i wouldn't believe him too because of the lack of impartiality.

Astronomy is a science and as such it deals with factual evidence so giving credence to the hollow earth belief is obviously ludicrous because it has been disprove completely. Faith schools on the other hand are a completely different matter, they have their supporters and opponents. As such it's wrong for Dawkins to present his view of faith schools with bothering to mention their benefits.

A good approach to the problem would be to teach religion not in schools but in a separate places - dedicated to the task. This way all schools would be available to anyone.
These Children should have a choice of there own, when the society, (which in such cases are their families) enforce norms, psychologically the child identifies norms are rewarding and because their society favors it , subconsciously they think it is Right??, and anything that questions this is viewed as wrong. Eventually this manifest itself though out there life's leading to hostilities towards others and their view of life. Peace!

I went to an evangelical-sponsored school in Hong Kong (mainly because most elementary schools in HK are faith based also). All they taught (aside from normal subjects) was intolerance which even at a young age was apparent. You wouldn't believe all the derogatory stuff they say about other religions.

Unfortunately the huge problem with this documentary is Dawkings himself. The fact that he's an atheist who has on many occasions stated his hatred of religion makes it impossible for him to approach the issue of faith schools in an impartial manner. Vice versa, If there were atheist schools and a religious person was making a documentary about them then i wouldn't believe him too because of the lack of impartiality.

Anyway, by its very nature, it's impossible to be impartial about the issue of faith schools since it deals in opinion. Dawkins is simply trying to address the issues he encounters in the subject using criteria that he thinks is most fair and honest. He asks questions to respected and religious people and engages in discussions with them. I hardly think he's the "problem" in this documentary, let alone a problem.

@Kerberoz01 You can't compare a documentary about astronomy with one about faith schools. Astronomy is a science and as such it deals with factual evidence so giving credence to the hollow earth belief is obviously ludicrous because it has been disprove completely. Faith schools on the other hand are a completely different matter, they have their supporters and opponents. As such it's wrong for Dawkins to present his view of faith schools with bothering to mention their benefits.

Faith schools (madrasas) are powerful tool if not a weapon in the world of influence. Religous institutions use these in their "command & control" tactics of evangelism. I went to an evangelical-sponsored school in Hong Kong (mainly because most elementary schools in HK are faith based also). All they taught (aside from normal subjects) was intolerance which even at a young age was apparent. You wouldn't believe all the derogatory stuff they say about other religions.

when i was 6 my brother told me about god, and how he doesnt accept people in heaven who dont obey him, so he puts them in hell. i have never heard about god back then, so i said to my brother that god is an idiot. once i said that my dad smacked me. he smacked his own son just because of a harmless thing. i thought to myself wow, he must really be important. thats when the brainwashing started.

@lebronjamesXD I feel you man. I was raised by my grandmother and brought up a Buddhist. In West Texas that really set me apart. I was in Junior High when I was first told by my classmates that I was "going to hell" for what I believed. Now I'm an atheist and even my own mother tries to convert me. It's so hard to get through the brain washing and the bullshit and have anybody really hear me when I try to explain why I don't believe.

Religion has a place in Education. All of the major religions. So you know about all of them and can dimiss all of them.
