Here's an honorable mention: Bob Brown and Rayfield Wright for the 60s/70s. Jon Kolb and Doug France for the 70s. Joe Jacoby and Gary Zimmerman 80s and Eric Williams in the 90s
i know nothing about players from the mid 90s forward.....i no longer am interested in pro football.
@ripperduck Bob Brown was a 5 time all-pro right tackle who spent most of his career with the Eagles. In 1969 he went to the Rams thru 70 and then played three years for the Raiders from 71-73.
He was 6-4 and weighed anywhere from 280 to 300lbs....huge for that time.
Bob Brown blocked the great Defensive ends of the league at that time; among them Deacon Jones, Willie Davis, and Bubba Smith.
since when does making an all time great list require you to be retired for 20 to 40 years? how come we don't ever see recent players like Ogden, Pace, or Walter Jones that deserve to make the list
@bbjones63 Bruce Matthews is definitely one of the best OL of all time (making the pro bowl as C, G, and T in his career) but he is best known for being a guard. Usually considered the best guard of all time.
Bravo for the effort on trying to rank them. Though I disagree with your ranking and ommissions I applaud that you put this together. Well done sir :)
Actually during their career's Larry Allen did make it to the pro bowl as a tackle and in fact started his rookie year as a tackle. He may be remembered as a guard but he was a good tackle when he had to play for a injured player. Nate Newton did play tackle in 1990 but really wasn't good at it. He was best when he played guard since his weight and body sized best suited him to play guard.
Tunch Ilkin? You're kidding, right? Munoz is no. 1 over Shell -- that should be indisputable. Jim Parker has to be on the list. Rayfield Wright deserves honorable mention or a place above Ilkin at the least. Covert over Zimmerman for their era is a tough call but I'd agree. Erik Williams was a beast for 4-5 years. He ruined his knee and could not slide and mirror like he could prior to that. Probably the most dominating run blocking tackle of the last 20 years before the knee injury.
How could you not have Roosevelt Brown and Jim Parker on your list? When they came into the league they took the position to another level. Just imagine Orlando Pace or Jonathan Ogden playing in the 50's or 60's... well, because of Jim Parker you have to imagine it! You could make the case that John Unitas could not have created the 2 minute offense without him. One of my favorite blocks of his is one where he basically made Dick Butkus disappear. He had to run downfield to make this block.
I agree that not having Munoz number 1 almost makes this list invalid but in fairness offensive lineman are the hardest to judge who is the the best after that because there are so many great ones even ones that are not in the hall of fame could make the list.
Terrible list. First off Munoz is maybe the greatest O-lineman, center tackle or gaurd to ever play the game. Also any list of O-tackles without John Ogden in the top 5 is useless. I mean what the hell is Brian Holloway on the list for? What the hell? lol, I guess you could argue the list you made but not with Holloway on it, not at all

Just an awful list. You have no sense of history.
Brian Holloway??? Are you kidding me. Played in 3 Pro Bowls and was never an All-Pro and you have him FIFTH???
From 5-10 only Ron Yary is in the HOF.
Where is Forrest Gregg, Lou Groza and Roosevelt Brown? Gary Zimmerman too?
Walter Jones, Ogden, Pace and Willie Roaf are all better than those guys 5-10 with perhaps the exception of Yary.
