Makes perfect sense .. All the states are connected to the Federal structure and it is very unfortunate that many states are overlooked due to the regional attitude of the rail ministers ..
If our railway system is to improve rapidly then we require immense amounts of infrastructure investments, which have been neglected by successive previous Railway ministers. We do not have High Speed Bogie manufacturing facilities in the country. We do not have modern coach building factories in the country. The new factories that this RM has started will at least bring a semblance of modernization to a Raj era institution.
He actually argues against himself. The investments that Mamata has called for in her budget are long term infrastructure building initiatives which will call for large investments in the short term and do result in a deficit but will pay back in the medium to long term. Does he have any figures for the amount of money the chinese railway system loses a year. He should try and get the financial figures for only the Shanghai Maglev system and he will be put into place.
He just talks shit, doesn't offer any solutions. China has made 50,000 because the railway didn't exist in China. We made 10,000 because we didn't require too much more. The only sections of the country which need to be connected effectively are the North East and Central parts which might entail building another 6000 to 8000 miles of railroads.
He accepts the fact that railways are the poor people's mode of transport, he should then be happy that Mamata hasn't increased ticket prices.
@camzidan Obviously you cannot read English, or you surely cannot comprehend it. In none of my comments did I opine that the Indian Railway system is better than the Chinese. I pointed out that we did not need to increase our rail network by 50,000 miles because a railway network existed in India at independence, China didn't have a pan-national rail network. I did mention that CR and CRH are making huge losses. I also said that we need to invest in Indian Railway system. READ AGAIN
I am glad at least one person is actually is smart enough to understand and say it like it is. He is absolutely right. China has built 50,000 miles, and INdia has 10000 miles. Shame man. Stop giving money away and run it like a business. Mamata just gives money away like it is free. I am not from Punjab, but Punjab must get good connections. SOMEONE please slap that mamata woman on her mouth.
First of all, the facts he said regarding the railway length are true, but is there really need an increase in rail length? What we need is mordernisation of stations and existing facilities.
Secondly, we have made reasonable progess (e.g 10 times increase in road length, 50% electrification of railway lines).
Thus guy, doesnt do his work properly (not even attending loksabha sessions!!) he is just here for some lip service. Politicians like him ruin our country
Wow, I always thought he always just talked for the sake of making himself feel cool, but after watching this interview, I'm very impressed. He's very intelligent and honest and for the people, love you Sidhu Paa Ji! Bruuuuuaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

Manmohan Singh is the weakest and meekest PM India ever had. He should grow a spine and kick Mao-mata (Mamata) out of the Cabinet.
