  • Thank God somebody Flushed!!!! LOL Thanks for showing the 26....I am in the market for a Macgregor 26 and I really enjoyed your vid. THX!!!

  • I moved on to another boat but had a ball with my 26x in San Francisco for a couple of years. You have to use all the sailing tricks to sail it into the wind but I found that actually gave me pretty good sailing skills. Easy 1 person launch if you can find a stall where you can leave the rigging up. Tow it to different places to use it for what it's designed for. Felt pretty safe in her.

  • I'm looking at buying a Macgregor 26M, as you it's the best trailable boat! For the one who says thats its not a good sailboat blablabla would you use a normal car to do 4x4 trails? So, compare apples with apples people... This boat have is own class and it's perfect for a familly, and you don't need a crank to put it out of the water not even another person! read about it more before talking...

  • it's an X not M

  • he is huffing and puffing while just walking around... must be a big fat guy

  • i am thinkin of of this boat for my first boat , do you recomend it

  • Great job on your video! There seemed to be some sort of mishap with the camera at the end. I hope you were not injured.

Have you had many more occasions to take her out? Does she perform as well as you had hoped? What do you think are any shortcomings associated with the boat? What do you like best and what do you like the least about the boat? Thank you in advance for your opinions and thank you for the fine video. Regards, Travis and Luz Ogle, Pensacola, FL.

  • Read some of my earlier comments (on page 2 of 3).We take her out every 2 weeks over the weekend.Rigging takes 1 hr everytime you trailer it.we now leave it in. It's not the best sailing boat nor is it the best motoring boat... but it's a happy middle. We are new sailors and have no prior experience sailing but we are able to sail this ship using the "sailing for dummies" book... no kidding! and FYI. We use it on a lake ontario, not an ocean. Hope this helps.Ask me more if you would like.

  • @alexbrainpath are you allowed to sail on a sea or ocean with it and would it be possible to do so with this kind boat and what CE category does it has? please leave a message.

    greetz,

    Nick

  • im guessing no traveler. vang not needed right there. ease the jib, sheet in the main. and tighten the main halyard

  • yes the front is the bow back is the stern. the right is the starboard the left is the port.

  • what am i looking at here (pFLnfIYmBs0) then? not being a know it all. id really like to know. pFLnfIYmBs0

  • There is no such thing as a roller furling main. You were pointing at the jib.

  • yeah... there is

  • Unless you are to reefing the boat, it is impossible to just pull a line and roll up the main. Your entire boom would have to rotate. I assume that you attach the bottom of the "furler box" to the front of the boat (bow)?

  • there are roller furling mainsail set ups. some are inside the mast, which you see with the big beneteau's etc. essentially they turn the mainsail into a big piece of triangular cloth and have no sail shape. there is also a dutchmann flaking system. lazy jacks.

with a roller furling headsail, you attach the drum to the boat, and you go from there. pretty straightforward, there's a roller furler on my melges 24

  • really cool boat we are thinking of purchasing one!! and really good vid about the boat :)

  • I have owned 2 different ones in 7 yrs.... This is absolutely not only the perfect beginner ship it is perfect for all sailing skills.. NOT ONLY can 2 people live on it indefinitely you can also use it as a camper at camp grounds and live on it on its trailer between or on the way to sailing adventures.. you can put 4 levelers on the trailer to stabilize it for camping to keep it from shaking around at night or day....

  • hey so now that you have this boat awhile do you still love it .

I was looking for an all around sailboat .I check out a Macgregor and seem to fit me well .

but dont know about them ?

i dont need to impress i just want to enjoy

what would you say it cost per year to own ?

  • we love our boat so much that we moved to a water front property... the macgregor has been great for permitting us to go where no other sailboat can go. Putting it in the water takes about 1 hour if you rig on shore and about the same time to take it out, so that sucked... cost is limited to pumping the toilet out, gas, insrance and standard repair which leads to about 500 canadian a seasons. Don't under estimate the fact that only 12 inches of water are require to float without hiting bottom.

  • thank you

For reply and the posting of your video I live on the south shore of long Island 12 inch draft will be very important here .

but the cool thing about this boat is can trailer it to the north shore and real sail it too !i have been looking at few boats so far i like the Macgregor best .

we are campers and this seem like the Winabago of the sea to me

hope you saw my video i sent you of my learning sailboat

the Mighty Mini 5 stars !

  • Those boat aren't specifically built for sailing and probably don't need a boomvang. Those McGregor's are moderate quality sail boats, moderate quality motorboats, but an AWESOME hybrid. Pretty cool design and a great purchase for somebody torn between the two types of boats. Fish, sail, motor, hangout. Pretty decent for everything.

  • The 'back of the boat' is referred to as the 'stern'!!!

  • Thank you for the comment. Feeling more and more like a snob for knowing that :)

  • Sarcasm at its worst ......

  • Except for your short autobiography, do you have anything worthwhile to say?

  • Am I missing something or are you missing a boom vang?

  • Not sure how to use the 'kicking strap' although i don't think it would be of much use... thoughts?

  • Boom vang. When you let out your main sheet it helps your sail maintain shape not to mention all the other trimming. But the big thing is when you sheet out your main the boom is going to rise and you'll lose your sail shape.

  • From your video, I am guessing that you're a n00b to sailing. I'd highly recommend you get David Seidman's "The Complete Sailor" and read it. It covers a lot of material and is very readable. Also has nice illustrations. I recommend this book to almost everyone thinking of learning to sail.

  • thanks, i'll check it out.... and yes, i am a noob.

  • You need to hoist the mainsail higher.... there's a lot of slack in the mainsail halyard still...as you can see lots of wrinkles in the luff (front part by mast) of the mainsail.

  • Cool.... i thought it was related to our main sail vs wind placement.... i'll try that and keep you posted. with another video later next week..... I appreciate the help
