Separate of the reason for this song it has always been one of their best. As ever, great melody, great note and chord structure and Tom Bailey's piano and accompanying keyboard/Korg - work is so phenomenal.
This album had the best collection of lyric writing ever published. The creative imagery and metaphors are in the same camp as the greatest classic pop lyricists.
I used to dislike all of their albums after Here's to Future Days when I first heard them, because they were different from their usual stuff. But now that I listen to them later on, I find them to be just as good, if not even better than their 1983-1985 stuff.
i spoke to Alannah in the 80's when i met her on tour - she told me that this was about a child she lost and her own mother who she also lost. She said it was a hard song for her to perform
Talont69, I also go to meet them on tour, after the concert. Were you a member of their fan club? That's how I was able to meet them. I'm assuming "Flesh and Blood" from the album Queer is about their first child being born.
I saw them twice on this tour the second time I got to speak to them and I've still got the stud Tom gave me off the leather jacket he's waring in this video, it's in a draw next to me as I type.
I think she wrote that in the lyrics because there was a Hurricane in New Zealand around the time Alannah's mother died. Alannah is from New Zealand and her mother died there.

"Tom needs to take echinacea" for his low immunity.

Tom looks tired from his exhaustion that occured in 1985,it looks like a weak immunity
from the tired look.

And thanks you for posting!

I thought this song was about the baby that she lost. Am I wrong?

I always loved this song, and I never got a chance to enjoy the video. The Hurricane she knew my name is my favorite part of the lyric.

I think she wrote that in the lyrics because there was a Hurricane in New Zealand around the time Alannah's mother died. Alannah is from New Zealand and her mother died there.
Iceblooo 4 years ago
As well as comparing the shock of losing her mother to the power of a hurricane of course......

I thought this song was so beautiful. It's about the death of Alannah's mother the previous year.
This could have been a huge hit if the record company had bothered to promote it.

Oops, did you forget about the 3rd and final single from Close To The Bone? "Bush Baby" was DOA, but was still a fine song/single. :)
