FITS HIS HIS IDOLIZATION OF B. HOLLY AND WEST TEXAS 50S ROCK. FULLER'S LIFE WAS SHORT AND HIS DEATH MYSTERIOUS. AARON POEHLER'S WEB SITE HAS FULLER'S BIO AND IS WORTH READING. THANX FOR THIS RARE TREAT.
They've just announced a film based on Bobby's mysterious death called "Dead Circus". Smoking cast! Michael C.Hall a.k.a. Dexter plays his corrupt wheelchair-bound manager, Oscar nominee Michael Shannon plays another manager, Oscar winner Melissa Leo plays a Manson family member and James Marsden plays Manson. It's not clear who plays Bobby yet. This was announced yesterday.
My sister took me to see them - the one on the roof. If memory servers correctly that was Buck Roger's travel at Basset Center--El Paso, on Montana. Then we went to the Oasis on Hilltop(Geronimo) for a burger and soda - girls brought your stuff to the car!! . BOBBY FULLER STILL RULES!!
Hey Matthatter, what year did you live in Downey? I grew up in Billy Goat acres ,same street Eddie lived just a few house's away from his. Eddie lives on 4ever! this song was a pretty good remake but, it doesn't come close to Eddie's and believe me, I adore Bobby Fuller too.he left us at a very young age also. : ( Rock n Roll will never die~~~~
I haven't heard Eddie Cochran's version of this song, but I have heard both Buddy Holly's and the Bobby Fuller Four's versions of "Love's Made A Fool Of You" and find them both excellent, in their different ways.
Oh yeah...if you watched the live Clash footage of them doing "I fought the law", it would be your favorite too...trust me, I am never wrong. Hahahahahaha...
I have seen the live footage with Clash. It have a lotsa energy and good. It's imho not about which one that does the best version per se BUT a matter of taste. It's not like100 metres sprinters as there you can see who is the best as in who win that race. I love the '50s and early 60s music sound and Calsh doesn't have it. It would be, for example, if you love punk and 20 years later another band do, let's say; "God Save the Queen". Maybe that band have a better singer or better guitarists
Cont...but if you love Punk music and all that goes with it (remember this is just an example as I don't really know what u like) you just don't care. The punk version is the best for you. Imagine I telling you, that you are totally wrong and BF4 do the best. Just listen, they are THE best. I can't change your opinion/taste. Ok, and you can't change my opinion/taste. We differ in taste. Period. It's like trying to converte me as an agnostic to be religeous. You can't!
I'm not in any way saying that BF4 did not do it great or that the Clash is seriously way better...I just love the Clash version. I love Bobby Fuller 4, especially the song Let Her Dance. Oh and you better become a :"Christian" or you will burn in hell...hahahahaha Nice talking to nice people...take care
Well, not exactly. If you'd read my profile you would know about the username. I take it again: Bell Gardens was the place in CA, Eddie and his family moved to, from Albert Lea, MN, in 1953, hence the u-name. ;O)
Never heard this one before. It's sad, and ironic, that Bobby had to follow his two biggest musical influences (Buddy & Eddie) to an untimely death, and in even uglier circumstances than the ones that claimed the Fifites rockers. Their music is immortal, anyway. Thanks for posting this.
this Can't be one of your worst videos because it has Bobby FULLER!!! Thanks from me too Buddyfan (what ever happened to that U.K. DVD of his live perfomances? Buddy, I mean!) It seemed to go out of print the moment it came out! well, anyways, TFP!!
This is a new version for me. I like it. Do you know wWhen/where was this recorded? The tempo's a little slower and the sound a little more raw than the more polished "El Paso Rock" (Vol 1) version. I enjoy both. Your video is fine. Too bad there aren't many live performances available.
This version is from the box set "Shakedown!" on Del-Fi.
on the same track at the beginning is an ad for a Bobby Fuller show. I Swear the box is called that because i bugged one of the research assistants at a convention about the song Shakedown fairly repeatedly tho unintentionally (too much coffee). You gotta get that set! Norton's Grrrrrrrrreat but Del-Fi beat 'em there, I feel. Bobby Fuller Four-Ever!
Yeah, you're right. I bought the "Shakedown!" compilation. It has two versions of "I Fought...." The "El Paso" version is performed pretty straight. The other, supposedly the first recorded version, has quite a bit of echo; the instrumental interludes segue into a minor key; and the weapon of choice is "a shotgun!." It's a great alternative. Thanks for your info, Slothman001.
(The duties of being a secret agent double-not...)
I can't believe what the Never To Be Forgotten box goes for, its Criminal!
Oh say, what about the one where he goes 'zipgun"! (when I first heard that, I though he said "zit-gun". I hadn't heard of a zipgun before. I forget what that is, actually.)
A zipgun is a "home made" handgun-usually a bit of pipe with a crude firing mechanism. Once popular with the poorer class of hoodlum and gang member, who couldn't afford the real thing.
@capratube I believe this is the one Bobby recorded in his home recording studio that he built in his garage, but check with Rick ( bffour here ), his road manager to be sure. Bobby released it on his own Eastwood record label in 1962 when he was 19 or 20 years old. Flip side was Not Fade Away by Buddy Holly. Bobby lived int he Eastwood division of El Paso.
Someone just bought one of these 45's on Ebay for $255!
