  • whats on the top of the pm g4?

  • @RamiRiefert The top of the line Power Macintosh G4 was:

Mirrored Drive Door - dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4

    2.0 GB DDR SDRAM Memory

    NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti - 128 MB

Original OS - Mac OS 9.2.2 or Mac OS 10.2

Later OS - Mac OS 10.3.2

    Introduced - June 2003

    Discontinued - June 2004

    Price - $1,299 USD

  • That's the same story with me..... my primary machine used to be a G4 Sawtooth AGP, now it's a G5 Power Mac June 2004.

  • Want to see my Mac Plus?

  • @luigi90900 Sure... Show it to me.....

  • Did you have a Quadra 700?

  • @luigi90900 No. Why do you ask? I do have a IIci with an '040 upgrade in the closet, though...

  • @ThisIsAdamB I just like the design

  • I need one of those screwdrivers XD

  • "Something's gone wrong!" Lol, THAT must have been a surprise!

  • lol your face when you said "somethings gone wrong!" XD

  • man you rule!!!!

  • dude i just bought a low end 2.4 volt black and decker screwdriver aka my first powered screwdriver and i love it lol

  • Great video!

  • its you're ram !!!!!

  • hey adam my hard drive in my g4 just burnt out, so i need to instala hard drive and an extra ram, how big can i go, my processor is 440mhz, is that good? and how do i replace the old burnt out hard drive, i dont know wat chip is it...

  • Hey Adam, I noticed that you have that Grill on top of your PowerMac G4 And I Thought to myself, maybe thats for conventional Cooling. And I also tried to search for this add-on for the G4 Tower, but I failed to find it. Can you please tell me what the heck is that and what is it called?

  • It's the Contour Design Grack (think G-Rack, as in G3 or G4). It's not for cooling. It gives you a flat surface for stacking other hardware. It also has slots in it that you car file CD's or DVD's in jewel cases, late 1990's-style. It's not made anymore, but you can Google and find some vendors still selling it.

  • Oh, Got it! I just thought it was a vent grill for the G4, because as we know the G4 can be cooled without a fan, just like the G4 Cube. I'm actually going really old school here, I just bought a G4 Cube and An Apple Studio Display, both from eBay and I am curious of how great these old pieces still work. Also thinking of buying some upgrades from OWC. Wonder if they ship their stuff to europe. i might need a online Consultation from you, somewhere later this summer.

  • Damn. The G4 looks hideous. It really goes to show how right apple got the aluminium casing for the power mac (or mac pro as it's known now).

Since 2003, the chassis has essentially remained the same.

  • Wow that G4 looks really cool!

  • happy bday

  • wow ur a nerd

    lol

  • So?

  • lol you just crack me up is all nothing against you I guess.

  • Ahh I miss my G5, you and me had the same spec G5, infact I'm gonna post my G5 upgrade from back in the day as a response.

I have a Mac Pro now which is a nice machine but the G5 had more soul in a kinda of off technosexual geeky way LOL.

  • yeah thats true, it was more innovative

  • Like you made this on your mac, i watched it on mine :D Which is an iMac G4

  • adam b where did you get that thing thats sitting on top of your g4 that makes it a flat surface at 4:26

  • i would love to have that g5

  • Isnt that a mac pro, its looks alot like one, but ive never had or used a mac in my life but ive seen mac pros and it looks exactly like it.

  • I wish. No, it's a G5. The MacPro has two optical drives, this only has the one.

  • Great vid. Humorous yet teaches me how to take apart a powermac...

  • you going to get a mac pro

  • Cool. Would love to see a G3 laptop upgraded to a G4 sometime. Or ever old an G4 upgraded.

  • I did that for my friend Alfred a while back. He recently posted that video under the name "PowerBook Pismo Upgrade". He didn't film a lot of the actual upgrade, but I give a pretty good description of what's going on.

  • nice

  • they were probably all sold off in 2005 as thats when apple updated system x with xserve

  • Where did you get that thing that goes on top of the G4 so you can put things on it?

  • I've got the same g5 and would love to see a vid on how to add to the pci slots.... either an SCSI or SATA connector

    anybody?

  • You have the g5 !!!!

    lucky guy

  • GainSaver

  • how much did one of the system x computers cost?

  • excelent !!!!

  • eBay

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Adam, are you thinking about getting a mac pro, since the G5 is slowly growing grey, old hairs?

  • Love the into

  • geez, it`s really easy to upgrade. And absolutely all the PC users said that it`s impossible to upgrade a Mac.

  • ".........so i got me a screw driver!!" haha halarious

  • oh dear you got the 3 beeps of death thats usally bad ram

  • wow cool it use to be part of Virgina tech don't they use Xserve's now

  • completely wacky!

  • lol u can see the dust come out of when you blow on it..........wow that sounded wrong

  • I Love it when you pull out the screw drive and the G4 goes to sleep...uh oh.

  • Cool video...I learned something thanks!

  • I can see why you're friends with Al. Nice B&D. Loved the video, although you sound like the guy on the Notebook Computer Store on QVC.

  • nice video. keep them coming.

  • I love the power screwdriver, lol. Three beeps? Ouch. Sounds like you have a RAM issue, lol.

  • Well, we'll see the not-so thrilling conclusion when I post Part 2. Hopefully that'll be tomorrow...

    Thanks for watching!!

  • cool a mac from that super computer thats realy cool

    i have a g3

  • loved this video and adem that drive may be of a bfaster speed that the older macs motherboard can not read im not to hot on mac hardware i just no this can happen with older PC motherboards

  • Check out my same video when it comes up.

  • your funny 5 stars

  • Hey nice video...I just got a Powermac G4 its a great computer...I think im going to install my cd burner now that you have showed all of us how easy it is to take out the drives lol

  • Glad to be of assistance. The first time I tried to get the optical drive out of one of these, I thought I'd have to take the whole front off. But then I thought, "This is the new and improved Apple... They don't make the PowerMac 8500 any more..." So I just examined the thing very carefully and found those tabs.

    Thanks for looking in...

  • I love OWC. I just got my first Mac (a Mini) and it was a 60% discount to buy 2 sticks of 1 GB AM from them. Though I wish the Mini's were so easy to open! It took me an hour to get to my RAM slots (it'd take less now, but I was being extremely cautious).

    Great video!.

  • I've not been inside a Mini yet, haven't had a chance. But I've been inside enough Macs (and a few truly ugly PC's) that I think I could manage it. As a matter of fact, if my iTunes server (see part 2 - to be posted soon) goes kerblooey on me (that's a technical term) I may replace it with a Mini. Time to head to Home Depot for a couple of putty knives...

    Thanks for looking in...

  • I can't imagine any other Mac being hard than the Mini to upgrade. The thing is so annoying. But a trick that I found out (not mentioned in any of the videos) is that once you break off the locks binding the case on one side you need to slightly lift up the knife and pop off the case, it's too long to do it without pulling it slightly up first. That's mainly why it took my so long, I was too stupid not to realize that :-p

Can't wait till the next video.

  • Nice vid, Adam, it's like working with you again.

Want to get inside a Mini? I have one that stopped working.

  • Well, I cracked open my first mini today, just to a.) say I did it, and b.) to clean the dust out. Two putty knives did the trick. Only took the top off, but I was impressed with how it's assembled. Can't wait to get into one for an upgrade/repair.

FYI, I don't know if you've ever opened a laptop, but for difficult, try an iBook. Look at the guide at ifixit . com (no affiliation) and get ready to be amazed. One step in their instructions has you removing 16 screws. And that's just 1 step.

  • NIce video! I have a Sawtooth G4 and I didn't know upgrading the optical drive was that easy. When I tried to gain access, I ended up disconnecting the whole freakin' front case panel... NIce ending, by the way! Haha, very funny. I can't wait to see how it turns out. 5 stars!

  • Thank you! To be honest, I saw your G4 disassembly and wanted to show that it's much easier than you thought it was. I appreciate your comment and your watching. Stay tuned, part two will be up soon... Same Mac-time, same Mac-channel...
