Careful study of the Scripture shows that the Lord never sent His people BACK to Egypt after He brought them out. They went back willingly and when they did they went after false gods and strange abominations. The Lord God Almighty is the same yesterday, today and forever. Why would He send you back into bondage? Also, hypothetically "if" God was sending her back to Egypt, wouldn't it be to lead people out of Egypt through preaching the Gospel? That IS off to use tongues especially with unbelievers. I Corinthians 14:27-28. I'm grieved to when people use the old "don't beat them over the head with a bible" it's not "beating" it's love in truth, and God's word does not return void, and Jesus made it clear that we should go out into the world and preach the gospel... John 3:16, and continue on through 18. We are not to just pick and choose scripture.

@BillyVeePersonal 1 Corinthians 14:2 says; "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries." This example of speaking in tongues is obviously different than the day of Pentecost since men DID understand what was being said at that time. Then skipping down to verse 4 it says; "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…" The word tells us to build our faith by praying in the Holy Spirit. There is a purpose.
@manderbos - The Corinthians we're the closest thing to a representation of present day error in the church as you will find in the Bible. You cannot use an example of the Corinthians speaking in tongues as an exhortation for us to try and do it today. Paul spent most of his time in Corinth correcting the people there.

"...but he who prophesies edifies the church. 5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification." Speaking in tongues edifies ONLY oneself, UNLESS one can interpret TO THE EDIFICATION OF ALL. If you can't interpret, speak to God in private.
@vijabe Yes I agree with the whole verse, and your point? In the church services there is a need for interpretation if someone speaks out in tongues for all to hear. There is order or a need for edification by interpretation and also prophesying. But in private, speaking in tongues does edify oneself without interpretation. However, I've been in services where everyone was worshiping in tongues at the same time and there was no need for interpretation for that.

Your focus on edifying SELF is a telling one. It's not about edifying SELF, it's about edifying OTHERS. Speaking in tongues is about building up the body of believers, not oneself. You should rather to focus on prophesying, it's superior. Why don't you? Ahhh, b/c you can't fake prophesying. Thus, no self-glory to be had.
@vijabe Paul is the one who says it edifies. In church there is to be order, but in private it is okay to pray to God in tongues without an interpretation. Edify doesn't mean, self glory, it means building your faith, strengthening our spirit, not our flesh. God would not give a gift(like tongues) if it glorified oneself. God hates pride. Prophesying is simply hearing God's voice and relaying the message. His sheep hear his voice. Simple and humble in Christ, we should be. Exalting Him.

@manderbos For me it is a prayer language as well as praise, the Bible says we speak mysteries to God. Well, God knows everything, right? So who it is a mystery to? Well, demons for one. @TheViolet76 With all due respect; You are in error saying that tongues is not biblical. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 particularly verse 10. Paul the Apostle did tell the church however, not to speak in tongues during a service with unbelievers, and not to speak in tongues unless there was an interpreter I Corinthians 14:27-28. So it is biblical but we are supposed to be careful on how to use this gift.

I'm grieved to when people use the old "don't beat them over the head with a bible" it's not "beating" it's love in truth, and God's word does not return void, and Jesus made it clear that we should go out into the world and preach the gospel... I've prayed and praised in tongue for over thirty years and can attest to it's importance in my walk. You do no know your bible if you say it's not biblical. This example of speaking in tongues is obviously different than the day of Pentecost since men DID understand what was being said at that time. Then skipping down to verse 4 it says; "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself…" The word tells us to build our faith by praying in the Holy Spirit. There is a purpose.

@manderbos - The Corinthians we're the closest thing to a representation of present day error in the church as you will find in the Bible. You cannot use an example of the Corinthians speaking in tongues as an exhortation for us to try and do it today. Paul spent most of his time in Corinth correcting the people there.

There is order or a need for edification by interpretation and also prophesying. But in private, speaking in tongues does edify oneself without interpretation. However, I've been in services where everyone was worshiping in tongues at the same time and there was no need for interpretation for that.

Your focus on edifying SELF is a telling one. It's not about edifying SELF, it's about edifying OTHERS. Speaking in tongues is about building up the body of believers, not oneself. You should rather to focus on prophesying, it's superior. Why don't you? Ahhh, b/c you can't fake prophesying. Thus, no self-glory to be had.

@vijabe Paul is the one who says it edifies. In church there is to be order, but in private it is okay to pray to God in tongues without an interpretation. Edify doesn't mean, self glory, it means building your faith, strengthening our spirit, not our flesh. God would not give a gift(like tongues) if it glorified oneself. God hates pride. Prophesying is simply hearing God's voice and relaying the message. His sheep hear his voice. Simple and humble in Christ, we should be. Exalting Him.

You know how evil spirits try to interfere with answers to our prayers? Well if he doesn't know what we pray, he can't interfere. And when we do not know how to pray, the Holy Spirit can pray God's will for us, a mystery to us many times. It is a useful tool just like all the other gifts of the H.S.

@TheViolet76 With all due respect; You are in error saying that tongues is not biblical. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 particularly verse 10. Paul the Apostle did tell the church however, not to speak in tongues during a service with unbelievers, and not to speak in tongues unless there was an interpreter I Corinthians 14:27-28. So it is biblical but we are supposed to be careful on how to use this gift.

Remember friend Daniel saw this angel & Moses when he was on the Mountain was in God's glory his face shown brightly & Daniel passed out, so did John. These were face to face encounters. I know when God is speaking to me & so far only one time did I hear the audible voice of God in my spirit & it about knocked my socks off! Usually it is a feeling that over comes me. Read the book of Samuel God spoke to him. :0)
