@hipyaboyya if we re being honest, you have no idea what your even talking about, go listen to more SRV or jimmy page or whoever your using as a reference point.
@chalftits I've listened to Stevie for several years, so please, I know plenty, believe me. Answer me one question, are you a guitar player? If you were you should notice that his phrasing is poor, and his soloing in general is rather immature and lackluster. I'm not looking to pick a fight here, but can you honestly say that his soling is good?
@hipyaboyya Guitar player or not, no self resepected musician would try to bring down a texas legend like Johnny. Maybe you will learn that some day kid cause i can tell you that Johnny was a monster on stage and maybe to you standing next to Stevie made him seem dull but he was one of a kind and had a voice that could have knocked down the berlin wall.
cool cool cool. even wearing a safari suit and playing one of the ugliest guitars ever, johnny copeland manages to kick ass, even while on the same stage as SRV. i love it!
The French in Canada should be extremely extremely ashamed how they treated SRV the first time he went up there. Total Goddamned dickheads, and only the French could be such magnanimous pricks
Johnny in concert you'd know what I was talking about. Stevie himself will tell you that he learned at the masters feet. Watching. learning, studying, and then eventually playing or should I say replicating the music with his own little twist. Mind you, I'm not knocking SRV I'm just saying in the long line of blues
I was working on a dock at Fosdick Corp in Meriden Ct listening to WHCN (Hartford's Pure Rock back then lol) when they announced his death.
I have been having some back issues and associated depression problems. I was going downhill earlier and the Blues at Sunrise version came on Pandora earlier. My eyes watered up, and I had goose bumps on top of each other listening to it. I brought me back out of my hole.
It amazes me that even though it's the same song and the same kind of music how unique both Stevie and Copeland's styles were. Being a guitar player I can deeply appreciate the genius in these guy's playing. I think anyone can respect this.
The first concert they gave in Montreux they were booed. Which shows you how much class they have in Quebec. The band later got a Grammy for this performance. I guess that was Stevie's way of giving the Quebec people the finger. He never should have let the assholes see him a second time. But of course after Stevie was famous the French pricks decided not to boo him the second time.
fair to say that I know that Montreux is in Switzerland ... and there was a lot of French in the room, Belgians and even the Swiss ! yes yes it's true ... so all in the same bag ...
good but they realized the following year in which they had to do (a God) and are made up ... :)
this for me defines the true possibility of what the blues can achieve. The power to loose oneself in the moment and become not only whats heard but whats felt...true genius, true emotion, and a true performance. Thanks SRV and Johnny Copeland.
Stevie was so classy to let Johnny do most of the playing. He didn't just bring him up on stage and let him play a few notes. Stevie let him play most of the song. R.I.P. Stevie and Johnny
you can hear Stevie make a noise at 4.07 which i thought was a kind of laugh when Copeland plays his second solo as said goes to sing but lets his guitar do it for him.class
So good blues here!
Thanks for reminding us that it is first a feeling!
