I also played on this team, we were faster, bigger and smarter than every team in that tournament. We stuck to our game plan ( dump and chase) and no one could stop us. Playing hockey with team save me from the streets of Detroit. All the parents cared about the team. And Coach Rob, Coach Adams and Coach Gaston was the best at what hey tauhgt us, to be great men and not listen to the stereotypes put on us. My goal medal still hangs in my Grandparent living room
i played on this team, the 94-95 midget AA detroit rockies, CAN/AM CHAMPS! the tourney was in 1995. we were able to play the great game of hockey with the assistance of some great coaches, parents and the detroit police athletic league. those were some great times, i think of them often.
I played for what I believe to be was the first of 2 Detroit Rockies travel teams. Back in 1982 PAL National Champs. There was also a Batam team. Its great to see its still alive and well. Congratulations to all involved, a great story.
Actually, I played Midget AA. That was eleven years ago. It's hard to remember everything. I've probably taken too many sticks and/or pucks to the face.
I played for the Detroit Rockies. Not for this particular team, but for the Pee Wee AA team. I was suspended from the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association for five years for enforcing during a game against RFB.
How did that team manage to fund a AA team in a city like Detroit? AA teams, especially good ones, don't grow on trees, thats why I'm wondering where they got the financial backing for it. Also, they should have posted more clips from games.
Detroit is Hockeytown, remember? :) The team was funded by the Police Athletic League and played in the Little Caesars Pizza league.
Mike Ilitch owns Little Caesars and the Detroit Red Wings FYI.
I may post some game footage later. They played an uptempo style with lots of offensive flair. They wouldn't initiate physical stuff, but if teams went there the Rockies could lay hits with the best of 'em too.

Cool. Lots of famous ex-Rockies out there doing well. Doctors, Air Force, even Hollywood. Director Kevin Bray played growing up in Detroit.
The world will see when their story is put on film. Just wait...
