  • what's this song I think this one really beautiful song can someone help me

  • I made one had to sand it down alot but it was all good and got it sounding very nice just like a normal reed thanks man saved me £3.50 of my money :)

  • Brilliant!

  • hi im supposed to make a bagpipe sort of deal for a science class but i have no knowledge of bagpipes could you please explain wat u made and wat it is for and any other info would help alot thanks

  • Great job thanks for sharing it.

  • wicked!

it would make more sense to file down the plastic before assemply, though.

but wicked! where might one find a shrinking tube?

  • Thanks mate!

I waited with the filing because of the difficulty of holding the blades when not fitted to the rest of the reed (the fitting adds stability), plus the fact that you can't know for sure how much filing it's going to take so you will need to file while you can test the reed.

Heat shrink tube can be found here and there, try an electrics store, a hobby store or a building/hardware store for example.

  • @backflipbushido88

Your right, you file down the blades after the reed is completed. This is how all the famous reed-makers do it and its the best method for PC reeds. Source: Pipemaker for over 10 years.

  • what is the name of this tune, by who? thanks

  • The tune is Scotland the brave, one of scotlands two national anthems (unoficially). Who wrote it I do not know, as it is kind of an old traditional tune.

  • Oh, and the tune in the middle is Rowan tree (if I'm not mistaken).

  • Nice video - and very useful - could you explain how the wax hemp twine is held in place ?? Could you explain why the twine is necessary ??

    Thanks

  • Thanks, I appreciate it!

The waxed hemp is sort of sticky, and if you wind it up tightly it will stay in place. I use it partially as a means of securing the blades and the heat shrinking tube to the metal tubing, but also as a way of fitting the reed in the practice chanter. Some reed seats are more narrow than others, and some are wider. Therefore you wrap waxed hemp around the bottom of the reed, to fill out the emty space so that it fits snuggly in the seat.

    Cheers.

  • :)

    wow

i just made a straw pipe..

i think this bag pipe will be my next project =)

i have to search some material now in the trash :))

    thats awesome :D

    thank you :)

  • @stopgenocideingaznow Thanks, glad you liked it!

    Good luck with your projects!

  • thank you so much. Im making homemade Bagpipes for a final jazz project and you just saved me so much money. One thing i was wondering is if you know where one would drill holes in a melody pipe to actualy have in tune notes?

  • Hi! Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!

I've posted a comment on your youtube page/channel/whatever it is called to answer your questions, check it out.

    Cheers

  • Ya could you possibly resend the comment on my wall thing for some reason it didnt post.

  • Nice one for posting this mate, i've already made some pretty sweet sounding reeds using this method. i had to file the plastic down quite a lot, testing in the chanter as i went, and cut the top to tune it to A pitch. It is probably worth experimenting with thinner plastics, but it works nicely... thanks again : )

  • Thanks for commenting, I'm glad you liked it! I have been experimenting with thinner plastics and has had some succes with recycling number 6 plastic drinking cups. Not the brittle type of plastic that cracks when bent, but the more flexible type. That plastic actually works really nicely, doesn't need sanding to get the reeds sounding but they do tend to cut out under preassure. I'll keep experimenting and we'll se what I can come up with :)

    Cheers

  • I just realized you might want to make the staple longer to make the sound more pressurized so it is louder

  • Thanks for the tip!

  • Phogfan86

  • My dad commented you on x marks

We both are wondering where do you get tubing that small?

  • x marks?

The tubing comes from the controller antenna of an RC car. one of the middle sections is always almost somwhere around 4 mm in diameter, so that will fit the reeds quite nicely.

  • I figured out why your reeds are so quiet there needs to be space in between the reeds in the shape of a cornered oval

Also try drinkning straws : )

    Jack

  • You may have a point. I've tried largening the space by bending the plastic around a pen, but perhaps it wasn't enough. I've been thinking about whether the soundbox is of sufficient size or not as well. Maybe the metal tubing needs to be pushed even further into the reed. I'll keep experimenting and then we'll se what I come up with :)

    Thanks for the comment!

    Cheers,

    Anton.
