  • Any program anybody know of that can alter your voice to something like this would been awesome for my nwn module.

  • Thumbs up if Ulyaoth is so freaking AWWWWEEESSSOME!

  • @mosesImpg Oh but, "3:33" sound like Mantorok spell voice . EXACTLY like the spell voice this could mean that he did say 3:33.

  • @DeadEndScreamer Mantorok did spoke in the game' but not much. He said the following quotes:

    "3:33"

    "Piiiiiiooouuuus"

    "Kaaaaarrrriiiim"

    "Roberto"

    "Destroooooy this"

    "Miiicheeeaaal"

But some people did say that it was his voice that called out to pious, he must have something to do with it.

  • @jakluv9

I don't think Mantorok was saying those things. The only thing we can be sure of Mantorok "saying" is what that guy told Ellia in the ruins in the end of the level. Those other things could be the 5th Ancient or one of the others.

  • 'Nothing short of a miracle will keep him alive, and there hasn't been one of those for a long time.'

One of my favourite lines in any game. Ever. No use calling for God to come and save you here.

  • Ulyaoth has some SERIOUS Audio Erotica going on.

  • I want this for WiiU NOW dammit!!!! Matter of fact I still have that disc, it's a gem.

  • i laughed when i read the description :D

Xel's my favorite, although the first time i saw this cutscene with her i was like 'wtf?...'

"make sure he is dead...or insane...or perhaps one, then the other..." X3

thanks for uploading :D i love this game!

  • If Mantorok spoke in the game it would be the last thing Augustus heard before his head exploded.

  • Awesome game. I literally spent weeks playing it lol!

  • P: My meditations reveal a flaw in our plan

    C: THERE IS NO FLAW!

P: My meditations reveal a flaw in our plan

    U: OUR plan, Augustus?

X: What is this flaw you wish to discuss with us?

    P: wft I didn't even...

  • Ulyaoth is one smart jellyfish

  • Where can I play this? - Is there an emulator?

  • @FacingWorlds You can play it on Gamecube or Wii, as it is a GC game. I assume there is an emulator out there somewhere, but I have never used one. You should be able to find ED used somwhere.

  • I like it when Chattur'ga talks about power.

  • I love how Xel'otath's eye keeps "shedding"

  • is this a game

  • @flamingace47

    Yeah...for GameCube.

  • There were a lot good writers for this game!!!

  • Bless you, Moses. I love these cutscenes :D

  • I've always thought Chattur'gha was the most terrifying. The deep, demonic voice and the red, fiery aura do it for me.

  • @HowlsInTheDistance He's the most imposing, sure, but I think Xel is supposed to be the most terrifying, in keeping with Lovecraftian themes. Ulyaoth, I don't know. I never found him imposing or terrifying.

  • @moseslmpg This game is loosely based on Lovecrafts stories.

  • @moseslmpg I love Lovecraftian stuff too, but I always associated the ancients with the Chaos Gods from WH40k. Chattur'gha = Khorne, Ulyaoth = Tzeentch, etc.

  • @moseslmpg If anything, I always found Ulyaoth ever-so-slightly amusing. Massively arrogant. Impossibly wise. Giant jellyfish.

Still a great character though and I love his first line:

'The universe is a yawning chasm, filled with emptiness and the puerile meanderings of sentience'.

  • @GhostDoggSamurai

I always loved that line myself. It was delivered with the perfect mix of arrogance and apparent boredom that you would expect from an ancient entity reluctantly depending on a human to carry out their plans. That's probably why he is my favorite Ancient.

  • @HowlsInTheDistance Listen to it again: can you hear the screams in the background? Awesome touch and I didn't notice it the first time around...

  • Richard Doyle voices Ulyaoth

    Greg Eagles voices Chattur'gha

Jennifer Hale and Kim Mai Guest duel voice Xel'lotath

  • so, who voice is who in real life?

  • any body know the voice names of the 3

  • Chattur'gha remindes me so much of trigon from teen titans even his voice is similer but my favorite god has to be Ulyaoth so cool and slimy

  • Yes, that, and nothing more.

  • I love the Ulyaoth part at 02:00

  • ULYAOTH'S VOICE MAKES ME AROUSED

  • @SmokeRulz

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THAT KNOWN. Next time, say it more quietly.

  • @moseslmpg Haha, just having some fun, bro.

His voice actor is awesome, though. Also voices Pious. So he's actually talking to himself in that scene, yay.

  • @SmokeRulz Lol I love you!

  • @SmokeRulz LOL I love you!

  • "The universe is a yawning chasm filled with emptiness and the puerile meanderings of sentience." I remember I played this game while I was in 3rd grade, I used that in one of my essay things I had to write, my teacher read it and she was like "OH DAMN!"

  • @A7XRaydog247

I doubt you wrote essays in the 3rd grade, or even knew the meanings of that sentence back then. But I hope you used a citation, because that's pretty early to start a career in plagiarism.

  • @moseslmpg well, not an 'essay' parsay, just a paper we had to write about anything, and while not copying any core parts of this game, nor using anything else except for that one line, and I did not know the meaning of that sentence, kind of obvious if you're just using knowledge of a 3rd grader, my brother had explained the meaning of it, and I did not use a citation for no one had ever explained plagiarism to us. and one last thing, calm down, you sound like you're coming off as a troll/flame

  • @A7XRaydog247

I am neither trolling nor am I flaming, I was simply pointing out a huge, apparent inconsistency in your original comment. Now that you provided the context, it makes a little more sense. They should teach these little kids about plagiarism though; ignorance of the rules is no excuse for breaking them.

And don't confuse this with me calling you a plagiarist, because I know you didn't know. But did you ever let the teacher know where you go it from? They might have liked the game.

  • @moseslmpg

My sincerest apologies, you are after all 'text' so it's hard to interpret your tone of voice while you're speaking to me. I do not recall ever telling my teacher about the game, she scarcely seemed like the gaming type, however if asked where I had gotten these words from, tis very probably I would've enlightened her on the whereabouts of those words.

  • @moseslmpg Plagiarism is a conerstone to literary success. There are no new ideas. Try not to hurt yourself getting down from your high horse. Deal with it.

  • @BerryBell

That's fine if you think that, even though your rationale seems sloppy, and I don't believe I ever said plagiarism was morally wrong. Be my guest in explaining your philosophy to the ethics committee of your university after they find that your senior thesis has large, conspicuous chunks of borrowed material without citations.

But expulsion is a small price to pay for one's impractical ideology, right?

Who was on the high horse again?

  • "our plan Augustus? "

I love how condescending he is.

  • hmm,

So I can choose between getting ripped apart and devoured by Chattur'Gha

    Get mind raped by Xel'Lotath

Or get fudged up interdimensionally by Ulyaoth

Note to self, just avoid elder gods and monsters in general, it never ends well.

  • I love these cutscenes with Chattur'gha. He's so inherently no-nonsense and possesses such a deep, guttural voice that it's always exciting.

The other Ancients are enjoyable, and some of their abilities are certainly more fascinating, but Chattur'gha has the greatest personality for a villain.

  • I love Xel'lo'tath...

  • Man I love this game. So many voice actors from the masterpiece series, Metal Gear Solid, lend their voices.

Even these three Deities are voiced by MGS characters:

    Xel'lotath: Naomi, Emma

    Chattur'gha: Gray Fox, Stillman, Anderson

Ulyaoth: Big Boss (aged), The Fury

  • i think pious is the big bosses and the furys voice

  • The writing and voice acting for this game are so superb that it makes me feel bad for video games that can never EVER get it right. God damn I love this game.

  • getting rid of a french king is far more important than getting rid of the other ancients. jeez, and i thought ulyaoth was the smart one

  • Consider that the others are still bound by Mantorok. The only reason Ulyaoth is able to even speak with people in the normal world at all is because Pious claimed his essence, and Ulyaoth could use him as a loyal minion to ensure that he arises when the others do not.

On the other hand, in the normal world, should the nations of the world be united, they'll be much harder for him to destabilize. Ulyaoth's handling the more pressing issue at the time.

  • clearly one of the most well written games...EVAR

  • Agreed most definitely.

  • Does anyone else think Chattur'gha sounds like Unicron from the Transformers movie? xD

  • I absolutely adore this game. Silent Hill 2 comes close in terms of horror effectiveness, but SH2 also had a terrible English translation and crappy acting to go with. This game, by contrast, had amazingly written dialogue and beautiful voice acting to listen to.

  • Protip: When you are a Japanese developer creating your English voice acted video games, DO NOT hire a Japanese voice director who can't speak a word of English..

  • one of the few foes wich understand that dividing humans is the key to the dominance of the world.... well they're gods...so it's natural....

  • Uh, all of them see into the future, and all of them get owned, because they see the wrong timestreams. Mantorok is clearly the best because he got them all to kill each other without knowing.

  • is this game actually scary? ive been putting off getting it coz i dont know

  • Yeah, it is scary, but the good kind of scary where you revel in the experience itself and ponder the depths of fear. As Edward(?) says: soon, you will come to understand fear, as I have.

  • it looks cool but i think i'd rather a game thats gonna scare the crap outa me all the way through it but not have a huge story line to follow, a skelington that can talk and is obidiant doesnt sound very scary to me

  • lol ok, go play RE or something then.

But seriously, the only games I can think of that would do that are Silent Hill, which isn't really scary as a little disturbing, or Fatal Frame, which is more frightening than scary. RE can be scary if you have run out of ammo and are being chased by a Hunter or something.

I wouldn't pass this game up though. It is a unique experience that none other have duplicated.

  • I've had this video favourited since -- August 12, 2006, 01:28 PM.

  • lol nice

  • mantorok rules.

  • All 3 Ancients seem have there own way of reminding Pious of their superiority over him.

Chattur'gha: States that he is the source of Pious' power.

Xel'lotath: States there is much Pious doesn't know and never will

Ulyaoth: Is the most condescending, talking about there being things Pious doesn't understand and saying he's an insignificant speck in the vast universe.

  • Well since Pious did betrayed his species, they needed to make sure he was kept on a leash

  • They already were doing that, they were the source of his power and could probably cut it off at any point they saw fit. The stuff in the scene just happened because they all have a big superiority complex.

  • Ulyaoth's opening line in this scene is one of the greatest in any piece of literature, game, book, or movie, that I have ever played/scene/read.

  • Seen*

  • Well said. Ulyaoth really is the coolest of the Ancients.

  • Yes, for me that is also the most memorable line in the game.

  • I agree completely; it perfectly captures the essence of Cosmicism which most Lovecraftian horror stories don't even touch on. One of the reasons I adore this game so much.

  • @oooooooooorly Aaaaagreed

  • @oooooooooorly Damn straight.

  • Chattur'gha may be more condescending actually, since he never even refers to Pious by name.

  • Interesting that Xel'lotath also later refers to Ulyloath as the Absent Horror.

  • I like ulyaoth cause hes calm a bit patient and has a good voice plus he plans every move throughout any mistakes but although it could be very interesting if like wat storyline ur doing like chattur'gha and u hav to use ulyaoth against him it waould be good if the enemies like wat i said wouldnt attack u but help u and ulyaoth itself dont u think?LOL LOTS OF WORDS

  • Ulyaoth seems to be the most arrogant of the Ancients. He even seems somewhat insulted when Pious says "our plan"

  • Very interesting dialouge. Even though Chattur'gha supposed to be the least intelligent, his speech is still very formal. He seems more intelligent than people who comment give him credit for, since when Pious said there was a flaw in the plan he already knew what Pious was thinking off.

Still, Ulyaoth and Xel'lotoath are more formal. Ulyaoth especially.

  • Well, formality is not concomitant with intelligence, so the way he speaks is irrelevant except to convey a sense of majesty and awe. That said, I think the point is that the Ancients are just totally beyond human intelligence and knowledge anyway. It is just that Chatty emphasis raw physical power, Xelly focuses on the mind, and Uly, on the planes of existence. If anyone is intelligent, it is Xel'lotath.

  • best explanation on the intelligence issue

  • No, I disagree. They're all intelligent in different capacities. The difference between Xel'lotath and Ulyaoth, to use a mundane example, is like the difference between psychology and physics.

  • Xel'lotath is a liberal arts major (a crazy one), while Ulyaoth is an engineering/physics major.

  • @ProLogikalTao what does that make Chattur'gha?

  • @Bacillus4 Linebacker for the football team. ;)

  • i like ulyaoth who is the voice played by him?

  • I fucking LOVE Ulyaoth here. Such an all-knowing asshole with an awesome voice.

  • I actually had my vocal cords modified in order to sound like Ulyaoth.

Oh yes. You can do that.

  • Oh any links on how to do that? Mind you Xel would be cool although you would get a raised eyebrow if you spoke like her haha

  • ulyaoth is the best ancient besides mantarok...but his voice pwns all XD

  • Man, they all have awesomesauce voices. Even Pious's. Ulyaoth's voice is to kill for.

  • i just fucking love Ulyaoth voice and speech, especially the "they wil fall one by one" , it sends shivers down my spine

  • This is the best game ever, and these cutscenes and voice acting has a great part into this :p

  • Ahhh, so awesome. So AWESOME! lmao

  • Ulyaoth ought to play the next James Bond.

  • Magic*

  • The deep voice sounds like the voice from the beginning of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

  • Ulyaoth is awsome!! He has an awsome voice ;)

  • Pious speaks italian/roman hence the start of the game they talking latin

  • there NEEDS to be a sequel to this game.

  • Does anyone else have a hard time understanding Chattur'gha? If it weren't for the subtitles, I don't think I'd have a clue. Ulyaoth has the most powerful voice. But Xel's, I think I like her the best. I like it when she says "As has been foretold."

isn't Xel's voice actually two different women?

  • No, I think it is both the same person. I forgot her name, but she voices just about every female character in games and cartoons.

  • Nevemind, I was wrong. Xel is voiced by Jennifer Hale, and Kim Mai Guest, the person who voices Ellia.

  • kim mai guest is mei ling from metal gear solid

  • Lol and Jennifer Hale has been in mgs 1-3 as different roles... Paul Luthor is Cambell

  • I love Jennifer Hale <3

  • he's also that on monk who dies after saying one of the Ancient's names XP

  • Ulyaoth's voice was just pure awesome. When he said "Yes, that, and nothing more". I bust out laughing.

  • I like Ulyoath, and Xel'loth. Although I think they should have looked more Humanoid. They where cool, but a more godly appearance would have been befiting their awesome VA's.

  • That would defeat the purpose. They are supposed to be things from in between the dimensions that we see. Read Lovecraft and you might start to understand. They probably don't even speak English, since Pious' speech is translated.

  • I still get chills listening to Ulyaoth speak. Pure arrogant, condescending evil; the perfect villain.

  • "The universe is a yawning chasm, filled with emptiness and the purile meandrings of sentience.

  • @necros782 wtf does that mean

  • @FalconFreek i have NO FREAKIN' CLUE.

  • I really love their VAs and sound distortion. It makes me wish that they were real. I'd love talking to them.

  • Indeed! Ulyaoth has such a great voice. I alos like Xel's primary voice (the one not whispering) for that is arrogant :)

  • the ancients are beyond humans terms of good and evil

  • wait is mantorok evil (in terms does it seek to conquor or destroy humanity) because ive never played the game just watched the cutscenes here on youtube

  • Mantorok's no more evil than the other Ancients. However, he likes humans a lot more than they do; he's even a fertility god at one point.

In this, he's the lesser of five evils, although the Ancients aren't so evil as they are embroiled in their own power struggles, not caring what happens to the universe afterwards. Mantorok seeks to keep things in balance by making them destroy each other.

  • In addition, Mantorok is bound with his own magic, and is thus unable to do much even if he does have designs on the rest of the universe. This seems unlikely, though, as he likes humans enough to avoid killing them, even though until recently he wasn't bound as the other three were.

Personally, I like Mantorok. For the duration of the game, he put his best effort out to stop the Ancients' plan, and it couldn't have been done without him.

  • It's sort of funny, really, but Mantorok is more powerful than any of the other Ancients, as even when bound, he holds control over the balance of power between then.

This game, man... I gotta read more Lovecraft. A Night in the Lonesome October doesn't quite cut it.

  • This was such an awesome game!! I loved it, hours of fun..more plzz!! Luved the effects of the insanity...muwahaahaa

  • Chattur'gha is my favorite although I like all three. Chattur'gha represents pure physical power, I think he's the most intimidating of all the ancients.

  • Ulyaoth has a sexy sexy voice! Xel is awesome! Chatturgha is a git and deserved to get sliced!

  • Brilliant idea to compare all three of the same scenes between the 3 ancients in one video.

The dialogue in eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem is nothing short of sheer genius, but my favourite ancient has to be Xel'lotath. The things she says are just nuggets of pure gold.

For example, when she refers about Mantorok to Pious, "How can you, a mere mortal, comprehend what that entity represents, or what power it can wield? We know not, and we know more than thou."

  • is my idea or the guys of dc comic took Xel'lotath as inspirtations for parralex (the real parralex, you know that yelow monster who is incarnation of fear)

  • Xel'lotath sweet Xel'lotath, i love her paranoia and madness but the way Ulyaoth talks down to Pious gives a nice warm feeling. Good job posting this so much fun. keep up the good work!! Cheers

  • Yeah, the more sophisticated villain and definately memorable. I love this game and it's ingenuity.

  • Xel'lotath is my personal favourite, although Ulyoth is a close second.

On a related note, isn't Pious an awesome villian?

"You're a scholar, Dr. Lindsey, not a warrior. In that regard I have several centuries more experience than you."

  • This has to be the best set of cutscenes in the game, especially Ulyaoth's version. I freaking love his lines and his voice. The only cutscene that comes close is Maximillian's Dark Duty.

  • Was this created by the same guys who made the Legacy of Kain games? Pious sounds like Moebius the Time Streamer.

  • They made one or two games I think. SILICON KNIGHTS 4 LIFE!!1!!1

  • This game is fascinating. I like the three different paths, stories, yadda yadda. Thanks for this video.

  • it just occurred to me...Chattur'gha's the only one who is aware of the protagonists in the game, or the only one who mentions it, when he says "Mantorok has employed others to defend it."

  • I'm pretty sure the others know as well, since Chatty is the dumb one. They just don't mention it.

  • Hey wait a minute... Xel'lotath is played by Jennifer Hale?

  • Yeah, she is. If there is a character in a video game or cartoon and she's female, you can bet it's Jennifer Hale. She also voiced Samus in the Metroid Prime game apprently.

  • Goddammit that woman is the virus of today's nerd media.

  • Nerd media? You mean all the awesome cartoons of the 80s?

  • No, I mean anime and video games and most modern cartoons period. She's like cordyceps. Everything she touches, she infects...

  • Uhh...right. These voice actors get around.

  • X'ellotah is such a hottie, man what I wouldn't give to get with her.

  • She wants your body and soul in her tummy.

  • When I first saw the gods speaking, I was so excited, they are so cool! lol. Xel'lotath is my favourite, she has such a soothingly evil voice. Shes fab XD 5 stars! thanks for posting this!

  • Yeah, Lady X is hawt...sort of. She's probably hawt for whatever the heck she is.

  • The Green one was my favorite.

  • Xel'lotath is scary, her whispering makes me shiver >.<

  • this is one of my favourite games. But I've finished it only once and Ulyaoth was my enemy.

  • Best quote in the game:

"Make sure he is dead... or insane."

"Or perhapse one, THEN the other?"

  • Nice clips by the way. But judging from each of Pious' discussion with the Ancients, we can discern a general he has a them:

Chatter'gua: An arrogant muscle-bound cosmic dimwit that he continues to work with because of the power granted to him.

Ulyaoth: A FAR superior being to him of whom Pious is almost completely subserviant to, despite the ancient's arrogant nature.

X'ellotah: An intellectual equal and probably the only one he truly respects.

  • Keep in mind that these ancients are GODS; I don't think you're going to give a god a lot of lip. :P

  • hahaha yeah that would have been a hilarus parody clip if that did happen lol

  • That's almost entirely the same feeling I get from the conversations.

And BackgroundBailey, his conversations with Chattur'gha consist of nothing but him giving lip. It really does seem like Chatty's actually dumber than Pious.

  • Still, he knew what Pious was thinking of when he said there was a flaw in the plan.

  • Pious realised that if mantarok and the other 2 ancients united there power then they could destroy his ancient, the ancient assures pious that they will not unite because they hate each other however mantarok makes the rovias family and others gather the essence of the him and the other 2 combining there strength against there will and defeating the other ancient

  • Technically, Pious' Ancient was only defeated by the power of it's overpowered Ancient, the other just kept the Ancient Alex summoned from destroying the world.

  • I LOVE that game, thanks for the clip! :)

  • But now that i have downloaded a firefox extention pack what do i do. u see i am hopless with computers. the only thing i learned to do with this sort of thing is installing Unreal Tournament 2004 mods and mutaters.

  • I forgot how deep and logical this game was... this video reminded me why I loved it so much....what happened to the sequel? thought there was supposed to be more with Mantorok

  • They're all busy doing Too Human right now. Unless they bring in the 5th Ancient, I don't see how they could really pull of a sequel. Denis has expressed the desire to do another game in the ED universe, but I doubt it will ever happen.

  • I think they're still working on it, but the company wants to finish "Too Human" first.

....I KNOW the first few copies of Eternal Darkness advertised a sequel as an insanity effect...

Maybe for the Wii and the other systems.

  • Only for the first few? Wow I feel lucky. This game is underated, and it deserves a sequel more than some shitty overated games today.

  • Accutally, a sequal is up to nintendo because of its patent on the Sanity Meter. The Creator said he liked the idea although Silicon Knights wanted to be a single. But it is reasuring that most mainstream stores like wal-mart got new shipments of the game in march of 07 at about the same original price.
