  • One of Lifeson's best solo's ever. Period.

  • Excelente album do Rush.

  • This song cheers me up after a long day, but its supposed to have a different effect.

  • One of Alex's best guitar solos in this song - imo.

  • @Avondalelily Dude, I said the same thing BEFORE I scrolled down and seen your comment. We're right! No joke dude!

  • mabie carrie or mcnaughty

  • dogs replace their snout

    feb 1 2012

  • the best band in north america hands down name another and be a fool no comparison try any band aerosmith ha ha grateful dead not studio worthy boston maybe no longevity rush is it dont even try the best american band ever hands down thank you for agreeing

  • fuck! Lifeson takes this track from cool to seriously amazing. He's a fuckin' master, and the most under-rated member of the band. Clearly he's the best member.

  • @mikeweit

the chorus is one chord repeated...hahahaha just kidding he's a very good guitarist. I don't know how good because I don't play guitar but he obviously contributes to my favorite band in a very important way

  • when rush thought about their future and cared

  • Love the solo.

  • It's cool to be so tough!

  • Shame they never play this one live

  • @Octovaitor They did at the performance I attended...then again that was in 1984 :/ Agreed. Great tune.

  • @Octovaitor Sure... you try satisfying an audience when you have about 150 truly great songs to choose from.

  • @Octovaitor put on your thine gilden gefilter vhroom and slap dat

  • My all time Fav Band !!!

  • 420 !

  • @tmlnation Way to handle with kid's gloves

  • I jammed to this song in high school. Great Rush song. Thanks for sharing!

  • This song reminds me a bit of the MLP:FiM themesong!

  • @wildkittiesofcarabas Another Rush fan who's a Brony! Bro-hoof to you, sir.

  • @ClassicRockLivesOn lol you 2 made me laugh so god damn hard,in a good way

  • HANDLE WITH KID GLOVEESSSSSSSSS

  • Decent album. Powerful guitar by Lifeson. Strong lyrics from Peart. Melodic vocals from Geddy. In other words, it makes for a classic, riveting Rush tune.

  • A Great Song in G. Album , one of the Best of Rush specially Alex . This a One in Kind North Amercian Progressive Rock-. Still make me feel like kid after this 27 years ! Congratulations from Venezuela

  • One of the truly great rock bands - original, distinctive and talented. They refused to be a generic 'American Rock' band, and remain one of my all time faves. God Bless!

  • I think polysyllabic is the correct term....

    ;-)

  • gotta love ths band.

  • reverb chorus delay flanger phaser harmonizer ALEX LIFESON is the KING of all the effects including awesome whammy bar and volume swell sounds

  • relevant lyrics as usual-

  • @Alex55448 great album and amazin song

  • this tune by Rush is exhilarating/euphoric. Makes me feel like a kid

  • oh whaddya know....a bunch of idiotic bickering about "today's" music versus "the good ol' days"

  • Bah! It's great opportunity for all to put the monkey jam in it's proper place.

  • I have seen Rush 4 times before 1980..and I'm Canadian..they don;t come to Canada much anymore

  • This song was created before the Bosnian War, the Gulf War , and 911..no one listened apparently

  • @tmlnation Well said my brother

  • The instrumental in the middle of this song (2:20) is one of the coolest I've ever heard. Also a fan of their use of multisyllabic words. Unlike today's music, I don't feel dumber after having listened.

  • @bwynder While I agree with you about the instrumental bit, but what's with the "today's music"? I remember liking Rush in the 80s when it was new and old classic rock geezers called me a wuss for listening to any music with keyboards (which Rush had been using heavily since Signals). There's more good music out there now than ever before, but don't go looking for it on the radio.

  • @ahosek there is some good music out there, but not much and certainly not even close to the caliber of the 70's......

  • @tmlnation I never listened to Rush because I was forced to, I just loved it. It's amazing how few people viewed some of these videos considering how excellent this music is and how profound Neil's lyrics are. That kid is going to listen to what he/she likes no matter what you do.

  • It's a good statement. What's better, a kid with his own selfish needs or natures needs? Is it ancient knowledge or just foolish? Really/

  • IT'S THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS.

  • One of the best songs ever.

It also happens to be 4:20 long LOL

  • My favorite Rush song.

  • Anger got bare knuckles

    Anger play the fool

Anger wear a crown of thorns

    REVERSE THE GOLDEN RULE!

2:34-3:27 easily the best. Alex said in a recent interview he really likes his guitar work on this track here, it still surprises him even to this day.

  • Im 14 and this is my music

  • @NormanBatesRocks911 And you are right

  • Ah yes Grace Under Pressue, What a Classic Album this is. This is by far and away one of the greatest Album's they ever made. Their isn't a bad song on this Album every one on it is a Winner. i especially like this one because of the 5/4 time in it.

  • @tmlnation lmaoooo

  • Best song in the album.

  • @Cricchio427 hmmm debatable, im particularly leaning towards either The Enemy Within or The Body Electric, but this is definetley a good one

  • I like the beginning of the rhythm it sounds peaceful

  • The solo is just sweet

  • Yeah!!!! WOOHOO!!! 5/4!!!!!

  • One of the most underrated songs by the boys and one of the most underappreciated albums!

  • @sbzombie69 i couldnt agree more

  • Please, stop the arguing. Hip Hop is a genre of music and so is Rock. It's not about the genre, genres just mainly define what instruments are being used (except pop, where the instruments dont matter and its about fashion). I'm personally not into Hip Hop at all but I'm sure if you delved deep in enough there would be some amazingly creative progressive hip hop somewhere. But the shit thats on general tv (muchmusic etc.) sucks shit, no doubt about that. But in the end, rush is fucking awesome.

  • one of alex's most creative and amazing solos. there really is no other guitarist like him

  • perfect timing

    i'm burning im burning 4 u

wanting a world which quits bothering me for my device code

    spare a dime

    demitasse

  • such an underrated album...

  • @tmlnation

Small mind. You get AIDS from bodily fluid.....not music numb-nuts.

  • @smcgillis248 He's not saying music causes AIDS. I think maybe you were too obtuse to understand him. Have a second go at it and see if you can figure things out the euphemism.

  • @vutEwa

yeah....I got it when I posted. Some things aren't really all that funny though. The guy sounds like an assclown, maybe I shoulda just said that huh?

  • @smcgillis248 assclown???? what are you talking about??

  • @myway99

it's just sort of a saying, like douchebag.....it comes up under a google. In the post I used the word I was talking about some guy who likes to fight / argue on the internet.....I think the best term for him is troll.

  • @smcgillis248

had a hard time to find the meaning of "douchebag" in my dictionary... finally i found it out online. ;-)

but let me understand: so your message was referred to the one's comment about the lyrics of this album, right? if so, please excuse my intervention!

  • @myway99

    lol.....your cool :)

  • @tmlnation To be honest, not all hip-hop sucks. Personally I believe the majority of it does, but not all of it. Saying that is just acting like a fanboy. Respect all music or die trying.

  • @tmlnation You're an idiot. Anyone that thumbs this up is an idiot. I love Rush and hip-hop. If you don't you're missing out based on preconceived notions. Sucks to be you.

  • Gotta love a rock song switching between 5/4 and 4/4 ! :)

  • my favourite song on the album

  • Great song, don't know why it was never released as a single. Best song on the album.

  • Good God , I love this song. Always will.

  • A Rush fan would never sit here and argue in the comments to one of their videos. Music is about taste. If they can't taste the exquisite beauty in Rush, their loss. Move along.

  • I've been a drummer for 15 years. 7 yrs as a guitarist, now I understand what it means to write the perfect part for a song, to fit in well, to play the atmospheric tones. It's rush songs like this one that reaffirm to me what it means to be an all around amazing musician, and i mean that from the writing stages to the performances. Lifeson is amazing at what he does. Sad that he often gets pushed to the side while drummers love Neil and bassist love geddy. Lifeson's tones and wiriting = gold

  • @mikeweit You hit the Nail on the head.

  • This is really an all time great guitar lick. Nice.

  • RUZH!!!!! F'N EH!!!!!!

  • BLENDER MAGAZINE SUCKS!!!!!!!! NEIL PEART IS ONE OF THE GREATEST LYRICISTS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You know....I think Rush was just too good for their own time. That's why they weren't accepted by the mainstream.

  • Odd Time :)

  • Sure, not all of Rush's lyrics are great, but some of them are REALLY great! Songs like Bravado, The Pass, Analog Kid, Red Barchetta and Subdivisions are some of the strongest lyrics in the history of music. - Not to mention Afterimage and Tom Sawyer!

  • Next to Godliness!

  • i love this intro :D

  • See you Apr 12 in the 2nd row with my 8-year old at UC. No hip-hop or rap in my house.

  • @1rushboy Good to see you introducing kids to Rush, but to ban an entire genre is pretty draconian, don't you think?

  • @LoonieBin Trust me, I know as he gets older I will lose some control over his influences and he will probably be influenced by CRAP, but not before I set him on a solid RUSH foundation.

  • fully fukkin rox.

  • Anyone that downs RUSH for any reason Is truly ignorant!!!!

  • be honest with yourself

    /watch?v=ItRQvkkgaN4

    there's no doubt

  • what a joyous smile this puppet brings not on strings but on edges of screens

call it blind spot crazy biker where the fuck you come from?

dude you're lucky your gloves kept you alive on large marge curve, baby.

    phew.

then you learn the lesson of coyotes in 2011.

  • Mom bought this album for me and took me to this concert in KC. The t-shirt had a glow in the dark p/g on it. Man, she was so cool.

  • The best Lifeson solo

  • @lordbach01 agree, one his best. Love Limelight and Between the Wheels equally as well.

  • Respond to this video...

Agree, I would include Between the Wheels and Limelight as well.

  • Don't you just love the off-beat drumming in this tune? Rush has the best time signatures.

  • I'm cewrius as to who them 2 peepul is.........

  • Comment removed

  • so cool

  • One of my favorite RUSH songs!

  • RUSH---"Kid Gloves"

  • The solo in this song makes me cum

  • P/G!!!!!

  • I love this song!

  • What DOUCHEBAG "rock" magazine was it where they recently said RUSH had the worst lyrics in music? Anyone know? I mean, seriously, what kind of fuckbag is actually that deeply inbred to say something that is 180 degrees from the truth?

  • @badtolzstandby It was Blender on their worst lyrics in rock list and Neil came at number 2.

And Blender wonders why nobody likes their magazine.

  • @badtolzstandby I think it was Blender. Yeah they sounded like they only reviewed the 70s stuff harping no the eschewing of science fiction and Ayn. His better lyrics came much later.

  • @badtolzstandby Probably any of those stupid magazines you see at the checkout line in Walmart. Take your pick.

    Fucking "Blender" magazine.

God damn emos and r&b people.

  • @badtolzstandby WAT?!? Oh, I'm about to BEAT some publisher ASS!!! WHO IS HE?! I'LL FUCK HIM UP GOOD!!!

  • @badtolzstandby That magazine also putJim Morrisson, Paul McCartney, Ian Anderson and, if memory serves me right, Kurt Cobain in that list. I actually was surprised Bob Dylan and Roger Waters weren´t included. Seriously, only someone without any form of intelligence whatsoever could put all of those in a ´worst´ list, so it was just some obvious trolling.

  • @pwh1992 obviously name dropping doesnt determine intelligence,,,last time i dropped acid et voila roger waters and jimmy carter and that cartoon alien were like no wow i'm just kidding, i never meant what you're thinking. That's not what I meant at all.

  • @badtolzstandby A fuckbag would. Ha ha ha....I LOVE THIS BAND!

  • @badtolzstandby PPL with low inteligence are often offended by brilliant minded people. Fuck a critic , If you ever watched "the history of the world part one" the first scene is of the first caveman to paint a cave wall painting and then some lowlife douche that doesnt have any talent what so ever comes along and pisses on the painting in front of everyone. I think of that every time they down someones blood sweat and tears.

  • @badtolzstandby Oh man, I hear you.

  • @badtolzstandby

I think it's perfectly fair. I think that out of all bands that rock fans take seriously Rush have some of the worst lyrics. Geddy isn't exactly a good singer either. That's not to say they are a bad band, I don't think anyone listens to them for educational or political knowledge anyway.

  • I sit here and read over and over the drivel you wrote. I can't help but laugh! Just WTF does listen to music for political or educational "knowledge" anyway?? Who do you consider good lyicists, REM?? ROFL! KISS, maybe? They have thee SINGLE largest cult following in the world (FACT)! Listen to his lyrics and tell me what douchebags you listen to could come up with anything have as good! LMAO, this is hilarious! Keep this thread going, plz! I need to see who u "admire" for lyrics...LMFAO!

  • @Carthsgtr I agree Rush's lyrics are generally mediocre. They get the point across in uncreative way in my opinion. Geddy's singing seemed to hit it's best stride in the late 80s to early 90s.

  • @Baumanium Oh yes, of course! 2112 was completely uncreative...I mean come on, right? I'm sure Poison or Quiet Riot could've done the same thing with greater expression and meaning?!?!?!??

  • @badtolzstandby

what the hell?! that's just wrong, i can actually understand what Geddy is saying most of the time, and its good...it really adds to the song itself.

  • @badtolzstandby Maybe someone who doesn't have any understanding of the lyrics so they are just dismissing them. My experience has been people tend to dismiss things they don't completely understand.

  • @BrandoHuskie

Their lyrics have always been corny and out there. Some people like it some people don't. Personally I think they're a great band regardless.

  • Comment removed

  • @badtolzstandby fok offf !

  • @badtolzstandby I totally agree. Peart's lyrics are monumental. Nuff Said. Case Closed. Ignorance is bliss.

  • @badtolzstandby I think that magazine was Blender.

  • @badtolzstandby I don;t remember its name, but I do know it went out of business, shortly after for unrelated reasons (like it sucked).

  • @badtolzstandby peart is a lyric genius.. to say the least. the magazine that printed that has no idea who rush is.

  • @badtolzstandby ive read it a bunch of places, anybody who has anything to say about peart's lyrics are uninformed ignorant or mentally incompetent of understanding there meaning maybe they should 'test for echo"

  • @badtolzstandby A Dumbass that "so called" rock magazines hire for writers these days!

  • @badtolzstandby A dumbass writer that doesn't know the meaning of the words Rush uses in its lyrics!

  • @badtolzstandby probably the same publication that fails to recommend voting Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (or Hall of Shame- either way is correct)

  • @badtolzstandby That magazine was Blender.

  • @badtolzstandby Well.. sadly my friend. It is just downright over there heads.

  • @badtolzstandby There are people who don't get concepts such as metaphor, or using the discoveries in our sciences in lyrical content. As happens all too often, people will downplay, mock and even hate what they don't understand. Of course I'm not really posting this comment directly to you as you obviously are aware of this; this is merely for the fuck- and douchebags who "just don't get it" to quote from "Neurotica".

  • @badtolzstandby "What DOUCHEBAG "rock" magazine was it where they recently said RUSH had the worst lyrics in music? "

As Zappa said, "Rock journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read."

In the UK, the music paper "NME" was/is notorious for the pretentious shit it writes. It once accused Rush of being fascists for some reason, even though Geddy Lee's Jewish parents were persecuted by the Nazis!

  • @badtolzstandby Must have been illiterate, honestly, Peart's lyrics read like pure poetry and fantastic prose. He's an amazing writer, never mind lyricist. I've been listening to RUSH since I was 12 years old and since then I keep re-discovering their songs and find new meaning in their lyrics.

  • This is one my favorite Rush songs, and I have been a fan since I was 8 or 9 years old back in the late 70s. There is somthing surreal and beautiful about this song. It might be the beautiful guitar work by Alex, or the relevant lyrics by Neil. At any rate, a most excellent song.

  • My second favorite song on the album, next to Enemy Within

  • in 7th grade.... traded a cassette of Great White *once bitten* for this.... best trade ever.... i think i used to mow the lawn to this tape!?! great outro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Penis! This song is good!

  • The "Synth Period" of Rush's music was from 1982-1987. Grace Under Pressure was the best album to come out of that period. Everyone who agrees, raise their thumbs!

  • @jo366 Presto! sorry

  • @jo366 signals, signals, signals, signals, then grace under pressure

  • I bought GUP when it was brand new and it was my first Rush album. I was 16. Alex Lifeson was the main reason I decided to learn to play guitar shortly thereafter and over 25 years later he's still by far my favorite player. There's a magic to his playing from their oldest stuff to their newest stuff that's untouchable. And hey, Geddy and Neil aren't too bad either, haha! Can't wait for Clockwork Angels!

  • still a great album...saw the show for this in '84 buffalo ny....stage center

  • Neil Peart, Geddy lee and Alex lifeson rocks!!

Alex is is most underrated gitarist in the wolrd, he made rush sounds like a big ban

  • @petenrgify Alex Lifeson is one of my primary influences; which is odd because I play Keyboards, not guitar.

  • Neil Peart, Geddy lee and Alex lifeson rocks!!

Alex is is most underrated gitarist in the wolrd, he made rush sounds like a big band.

  • A world of indifference

    Heads and hearts too full

    Careless of the consequence

    Of constant push and pull

  • @SunflowerEmmeline tough to be so cool, not cool to be so tough

  • a world tour so out of touch call it Graze/Pasture clodhoppers. Without Gurney's Sausage the world of indifference Istanbul Constantinople Opie from Time Machine 2010 tour sent me here to typo this, under duress, of knocks.

  • Kid Gloves and Vital Signs are my favorite Rush songs. Unlike the enveloping wave of emotion that Mystic Rythms and Witch Hunt swell into, Kid Gloves, to me, always showcased their lyrics and musicianship. Plus it s got a good beat and you can dance to it (for anybody that remembers American Bandstand)

  • @qazqazyyz I couldn't agree more.

  • I am going to see them tonight...cannot wait. This will be my first time seeing Rush. I know I will be pleased.

  • Alex has got to be the most underrated guitarest's of all time.. He's never mentioned among the all time greats, why?????????????????

  • @Tshaf37redux Actually, Alex has gotten a lot of praise and recognition over the years, especially in the guitar world, and has influenced generations of guitarists.

Unfortunately, it's usually the artists with mainstream success who get most of the credit. If you think bands like Rush are underrated now, you'd be amazed how little-known they were back in the 70's and 80's. Nowdays we have cool stuff like youtube, rockband, vh1 etc. and my 12 year old niece even knows who Alex Lifeson is. lol

  • The thing is. I sincerly believe that Alex, Geddy, and Neil don't realize how much they and their music means to all of us. I say this as a compliment to their humble and genuine nature. Simply put, Rush has made my life a better one.

  • drops quarter in time machine and heads back to 1984.. i gotz some unfinished business to deal with and some corrections to make and to listen to this in concert live.

  • gets you bouncing from the first note played what a solo

  • This song means so much to me, thanks for the upload :)

  • Every one every where no matter how smart or good or wise or what ever makes mistakes that result in something not good. When Rush replaced Terry Brown they made a huge mistake. Sure, there have been some good songs like this one, but since Terry was replaced they have never recovered to their former greatness.

  • YET ANOTHER AWESOME SONG! Thumbs up for Alex Lifeson!

  • great to see so many positive things about what I feel is the most underated band in the history of Rock. Rush has influenced so many people including alot of the bands from there time and now. Its about time the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame wakes up and smells the coffee. Lets here it for there induction now!!!!!!!!.........Long Live Rush........best band on planet earth period.
