As for the america vs britain debate, in terms of INFLUENCIAL acts, America has Hendrix, nirvana, The strokes, The ramones, Elvis and RaTM.

Britain on the other hand, has the beatles, the rolling stones, the who, the kinks, the small faces, led zeppelin, the sex pistols, the clash, the smiths, the stone roses, Joy Division, radiohead and the jam. All of those bands changed the face of music in some way.

Well it was always a tandem between the US scene and the Brit scene! Like, Buddy Holy and the Crickets first came as a pop group in the US, then their influence and America's rock'n'roll helped forge the Beatles that grew to be considered the most influential band of popular music! Also, psychedelic rose in both countries almost at the same time, though hippie idealism was born in the US! Punk was born almost at the same time in both countries!

And to all the "urgh this isn't original" commenters, we're lucky in Britian to have so many great indie/rock bands, of course some of them are going to sound similar. You have to admit, while some people may think Tom is arrogant (which i don't but never mind) he talks a lot more sence than most front men out there, and in my opinion is an excellent role model for a lot of young kids out there.
