There was a gas chamber in Mauthausen (a few thousands were also sent to Hartheim to be gassed there),but most died through "work".....the survival rate was 50 % and the life expectancy was only 5 months!......many were working in the Quarry, for such work you would have needed at least 4.500 ,if they were lucky they got 1.450 "death through work".......

My father in law was in this camp for nearly three years, he died on March the 31st of this year; he told me just before the day the Americans liberated the camp, they were going around killing as many people as possible; mainly those who had worked at the crematorium, he worked bare foot in the quarry nearly everday during severe winters of -15°C

It seems to be so far in space and time when you are just watching a video, but when you're there, if you try to see the territory with the eyes of a prisoner then you feel a very strong and almost "suffocating" or claustrophobic sensation... in that moment you truly understand and TOUCH and experience that all these images are still real, someway...

Ich war am 27.04.2009 mit meiner Klasse in Mauthausen.
In der Gaskammer hängen solche Gedenktafeln von den Opfern. Auf einen dieser Tafeln sind 4 Männer abgebildet. DIe wurden genau am 27.04.1945 in der Gaskammer vergast !!!

@Sommernacht2008 Wir heutigen Deutschen können auch nichts dafür,da sehr viele(wie ich 20 Jahre)später nach der ganzen Scheiße geboren wurden.
Am 05.08.2010 war ich mit meiner Frau in Mauthausen.
Es wäre einfach nur schön,könnte man ganzen Mist einfach vergeßen,und einen
Schlußstrich ziehen.

My father was part of the US 3rd. Army unit that liberated Mauthhausen. I heard many first hand stories from him about this place.. I found it interesting that after liberation he said there were large fights between the inmates over something political.

Hi, I remember reading your comment about thoe fights....since than I have been to an evening talk,where a polish survivor talked about this as well...he said once it was over,they wanted to take revange at those prisoners who had been "Kapos"= meaning working for the SS (they were in charge of their fellow inmates)= often they were as brutal as the SS themselves (many of those were killed by those very rightly so enraged former inmates of Mauthausen

There were 23 nationalities, the hightest death rate was amongst the Russians some 32.000, and the Polish 30.000.....all in all over 122.000 people died,or 50 % of the "inmates",it was a camp for (at the beginning) mostly resistance fighters......greetings

La "musique stupide" dont tu parles n'est 'que' la mise en musique par Mikis Théodorakis de trois poèmes écrits par un rescapé de Mauthausen, enregistrée dans le camp de Mauthausen par Maria Farantouri, et c'est cette musique qui accompagne la visite du camp.

I dont care what kind of music it is. It disturbers, because i want to hear what the people are talking about. With subtitles you loose half the information - but they are better than nothing.

My father in law was in this camp for nearly three years, he died on March the 31st of this year; he told me just before the day the Americans liberated the camp, they were going around killing as many people as possible; mainly those who had worked at the crematorium, he worked bare foot in the quarry nearly everday during severe winters of -15°C
He didn't tell us a lot about his time there,

Every authentic voice that can speak to those events is important, especially in light of all the disgusting revisionism that's going on these days by the liar-deniers that claim none of this ever took place.

I've visited Mauthausen with school; it's an experience that everybody should do... It seems to be so far in space and time when you are just watching a video, but when you're there, if you try to see the territory with the eyes of a prisoner then you feel a very strong and almost "suffocating" or claustrophobic sensation... in that moment you truly understand and TOUCH and experience that all these images are still real, someway...

Mein Grossvater geb. 17.05.1913, Deutscher; wurde am 17.09.1938 ins KZ Dachau verschleppt am 21.03.1939 nach Mauthausen überstellt von dort am 03.09.1940 nach Sachsenhausen; am 01.10.1940 ins KZ Neuengamme. Ein junger Mensch vh mit 3 Kindern!

Ich war am 27.04.2009 mit meiner Klasse in Mauthausen.
In der Gaskammer hängen solche Gedenktafeln von den Opfern. Auf einen dieser Tafeln sind 4 Männer abgebildet. DIe wurden genau am 27.04.1945 in der Gaskammer vergast !!!

Hitler war kein Jude. In der Zeit des 2.Weltkrieges gab es ein Gerücht, dass er jüdische Herkunft habe, doch dafür gibt es, natürlich, keine Beweise. Das wär doch ein Wiederspruch.

also ich war auch mit meiner hauptschule klasse dort und ich hab mich tage nachbei auch noch schrecklich gefühlt es war soo angsteinflurchent dort zu sein wo 10000 menschen unbebracht wurden.. ich bin zwar noch zu jung mich an diese zeit erinnern zu könne aber das wissen das ich über diese zeit habe reicht aus um es schrecklich zu finden wie grausam menschen andere rassen ausgerottet haben !!!

Ich wohne nicht weit weg von diesem Ort und besuchte ihn auch schon öfter... Es ist einfach unvorstellbar was für grausame Dinge dort geschahen. Als ich Überlebende oder Veteranen dort getroffen habe konnte ich ihnen nicht mal in die Augen sehen.. ich schämte mich obwohl ich damit nichts zu tun hatte.. Ich hoffe das soetwas nie wieder passiert!
