I have no idea how I ended up here, but glad I did! I got my first real stereo in 1975, when I was seven. It played 33s, 45s, 78s and 8-tracks with two built in speakers that were behind green velvet cloth and a plasic wood grained grill. My grandfather owned the local tavern (a town of 1000) and had a jukebox. He gave me three boxes of records to play! Hundreds of records still with the paper jacket. This song and England Swings (Roger Miller) were included. Plyed them to death! lol
For alot of us Born and raised in the 50's and 60's if we had only known then what we know now we never would have taken this music for granted. We had it every day and every lonely night. We listened and dreamed and never thought that it would someday be gone...Just like our cars, if only we could go back...I do believe that many of us would stay....Take our kids and our grandkids and just go back. IF ONLY
The Vette in the pic is a '57, not a Sting Ray. The Sting Rays (C2) Corvettes were built from '63-'67, (called "mid years", because '63-67 fell smack in the middle of the '60s.) The XK-E didn't have the HP of the Vette, so it's unlikely it would have won a race, but it was also smaller/ lighter, so it may have had a chance ?? The true rival of the Vette in the '60s was the 427 Cobra. Cobras were faster, but they were low-production, limited and brief: They're long gone, but Corvettes remain!
My best friends and me all drive standards. LOVE this. Somebody started racing me the other night cuz they heard the engine rev while changing gears. XD
@ohytr12 I was a kid when Jan and Dean first hit the charts and I been a fan ever since. I never get tired of then. Jan was always my favorite but Dean was cool too. Dean was one loyal TRUE friend to Jan and that speaks VOLUMES. Rock on Dean. RIP my sweet Jan
It doesn't matter if your driving a jag or stingray. It's hard to stay centered in any car, when you're racing another car, around an almost ninety-degree right turn. The song isn't about Jan's accident though. The song released in '63. It was '66 when he crashed his Sting Ray into a parked truck, right near dead man's curve, outside a house once owned by Roman Polanski.
Oh yeah, sure. Blame it on the "curve". It doesn't take a wrench genius to figure out the Stingray can't corner worth a pound of dog food with it's tires that are skinnier than my lawnmower.
I liked your video, but the song is about a Jaguar and a Sting Ray, which started production in 1963, and the car you are showing in the video is the first year run, 1953-55. Ya gotta find a Sting Ray with six tail lights to fit the song. ;)
@fbenenati Awesome car! Do you have the coupe or the roadster? Which engine does yours have? The Sting Rays are my dream cars--I just wish they were in my price range!
@galoon It is the coupe, Nassau Blue in color, a Calif car with the smog pump functional - VERY RARE. It has the L79 engine package, aka 327 c.i./ 350 hp. It is an NCRS Top Flight car. I am very lucky to have it. Send your e-mail address to Drfredfly (at) cox.net, and I will send pic if you are interested.
@jinneemagic302 Yep, they're stone age and high maintenance, but the good thing about them is that you can read the liner notes on the album jacket without a magnifying glass. And if a record gets a skip or a scratch, it doesn't screw up the whole disc. But the great thing about CDs is that you can play 'em in the car!
@superfakek jan and dean had a career too.the ironic part is jan berry took this to a whole different level.there's much to be debated but they all had some rough and wonderful childhoods.
@DaveWollenberg Jan dose the speaking part. He never remembered anything of his own near fateal car accident, just what every one told him...what others pieced together.....but of the actual acident he never remember......maybe that was a good thing.
i was so young but my dad had all the 8 track tapes..an i still have them im 40 dont look like it but when u r from hawaii...kits all good look iiked im younger..aloha

@manhatin when jan crashed his vette under a flatbed truck in front of gene barrys sons house he was severly injured and in a coma all dreams of becomeing a medical doctor were shattered after a long recovery he was able to walk with a battery in his leg and ultimately had a comeback concert tour and a series of records and movies .
