xoutofdatex, u have a point with the gap between skill and tallent but double kick is actually insanely hard (which u probably have never used cuz im under the impression ur a jazz player) and most "big" metal kits are 1 or 2 snares, 4 toms, 2 kick, and a shit ton of cymbols. which in the end gives a song more cymbol tones rather than crash/ride and maybe hittin the middle.

Well I have ears on both side of my head, and I did listen to metal sometimes, thanks. Metal drummers can be very skilled, but they have no groove, no musical sense, they do nothing but demonstrating their technical skills. Rythms are always boring, only breaks are impressive. I hate that. Technical skills don't make talent. Here is the gap between a talented musician (like the guy on the vid), and a skilled musician (like a metal dickhead).
