I would love to post a smart comment but I cant. I am Knocked out by this Banjo,Mandolin and Guitar never minding the bass, Bella has been better but peter is a knock out ;-)
Incredible musicians, who play sometimes far beyond the comprehention of their listeners. be so thankful for their incredible talents, abilities,...spice and appreciate their contributions to the language of music.
Bryan is awsome and really nice i have known him since i was born and i work with his mom dad and sister lisa very year at Shindig on the green and mountain dance and folk festival !!!!!
I'm glad you've shared that tidbit about Bryan! The secret of success combination of mind boggling talent and sweet-natured attitude makes a World of difference in how much work and respect a musician gets...as mounting evidence prove how many bands, projects, CDs, awards Bryan has landed.
He is by far one of my favorite musicians out there and I hope to see him in concert / music festival again someday.
You dont get a zillion grammys for being crap....Jerry Douglas and Sam bush have known Bela since he was a kid.and they think hes the best..secondly this track is an old time bluegrass classic called WHITE HOUSE BLUES...nobody plays it better than these guys
Hey I'm a picker myself and saw Bella back in the (like 25 years ago) I do appreciate his talent just not his "Style" to me he just looses the melody in all his rambling repetitive picking.... just me though.... as far as a zillion grammys go...look at rap... geesh this is crap and they clean up at the grammys...
So you're saying that soloing should be nothing but finding variations to play the same melody? If all solos were just the melody spiced up, then it would be boring. I mean come on. Bush and Sutton's first solos have almost the exact same cadence. i don't want to there the same rhythm and chords over again. Bela plays weird syncopated stuff. There's no problem with it just because you can't dance to it.
I'm simply saying not my idea of what a good lead should be.... as far as he playing "weird syncopated stuff" different isn't always better.... you want a great Banjo player look up Craig Smith.... amazing style, If you can find his verson of "Johnny comes marching home" it's well....amazing! a bit different but oh so tastful.... didn't mean to piss ya off, have a good day.
Nahhhh not pissed off, lets just say we agree to disagree! Yes Bluegrass is great...lol But if can find that Craig Smith song you'd love it ;) and know what I mean!
Bela has great chops. But I agree the breaks here (except the very last one) don't work. It's not that they're different. It's because they lack the drive that is so essential to a tune like Whitehouse Blues. It's great to be different, but not at the expense of the sing. Just my opinion. Glad we all love grass! :)
Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers recorded it on 8/20/26. The writer is listed as unknown, but it is most connected to Poole as I think he had what might be called a "hit" with it way back when.
your an idiot if you think bela fleck wrote this song. Flatt and scruggs played this in about the 60's so im pretty sure bela fleck had nothing to do with this
Fuck. Yeah.

What a lame lead done by Bela Fleck but everybody else was great like sam and bryan and jerry

Ditto on trying to inject too much of his own style into someone else's rendering. Like I'm Bella, hear me LICK.
It's all about the group sound, not just individuals. Now that I hear it more, it's not just weird, Bella plain SUCKED!
