  • Further to my last remarks (!) I have checked in my notebook, and the return trip, when these 2 worked Hereford-Swindon, was June 28 1986. Their outward trip would have been May 31 or the Bank Holiday, June 2, I'm pretty certain.

  • Thanks for the info - so I bought it a bit later than I thought

  • It was May and June 1986, when 2 tours ran between London and Hereford, with steam from Swindon. They were used for a double engine swap between Didcot and the SVR. 6998 and 5051 worked from Swindon to Hereford, and 75069 and Leander worked back, with the engines running light to Kidder and Didcot respectively. The 2 GW engines were at the SVR for its Summer Gala as a result. A month later, they reversed the whole show(I was on that). I think you caught the outward trip, on a closer look.

  • Possibly but it was my first tape and I got the camera very late 1985. Can you get more details?

  • Are you sure it was 1985? These 2 worked special back from Hereford to Swindon the following year, with a headboard which looked like that one. I was on it, and the climb up Sapperton was SPECTACULAR!!
