I have a comcast cable box. I was able to open it on AV/C but when I click on Start Viewer my VLC player does not open automatically. And when I open the VLC player manually, it does not have a udp:\\ assigned so I don't have a number.
what should I do?? hmmm...

it captures as a .m2t file so you would have to find some sort of converter to do this...

Forgot to mention that in order to record, you will need to use another application that comes with the FirewireSDK called AVCVideoCap
Gotcha. My cable boxes don't seem to have active firewire ports. I hooked my camcorders up to them and get squat.
i just need the firewire wire
