  • cute voice

  • (Vanessa, is an amazing piano player.)

  • the piano is so edge-like, I am digging the idea and the whole thing really!

  • wow wat a long instrumental @ the start?

  • @violetgirl1996 you've obviously not listened to the original then :) It's by U2 if ya wanna take a look

  • I LOVE THIS! I love both versions, but this.... total eargasm... Is it wrong to be addictied to a song...?

  • U2 is one of the best. And this song is "All Time Best" to me. I think I love this song forever.

By the way I love this cover. She plays this song with herown way. I respects her :D

  • I LOVE U2. I LOVE the original of this. And, d'ya know what? I think this version deserves some credit.

Brave girl for taking it on. Talented girl for pulling it off. And total legend for doing it justice. In to my favorites, me thinks.

  • this was waaaaayyyyyy beter than i thought it was gona be!

    im glad

    still

    U2 FOREVER!!

  • This was a good cover, despite the negatives reviews that are trying to compare Vanessa with Bono, she did it in the best way it could be suited to her, also i think Bono will be more pleased with this cover than most of the fans of U2, i know he would be apreciating the artistry and lyrics of Vanessa and not just for this cover of his song :)

  • Oh my God.

This song means so much to so many people around me, including myself, and Vanessa is my favorite singer... This is beautiful...

  • congratulations, Vanessa has made his own verson of this great song, is pretty different hear this song in a woman voice but i liked. Whith love from Mexico Vanessa. Thanks a lot.

  • OUR V IS COMING BACK BITCHES!!! BETTER THAN EVER!!!

  • @manuelestuardo89 UGH I KNOW RIGHT?!!? TOTALLY CAN'T WAIT! Carousel is wonderful !

  • not a bad cover but i stil like the original much better

  • As a MASSIVE fan of the original song by U2, I really tried liking this, I did. But I cannot help but compare her voice to that of a baby Smurf trying to sing 'big people' songs. She is a very good singer, but a good singer of her own and other lesser songs. Anyway, a good attempt and commendable effort. Just far short of the mark.

  • @Rainwarning Words spoken of a ignorant person.

  • Une cover puante sans aucune originalité. À jeter...

  • this is gorgeous....i don't get why people are saying negative things about it. of course you could never touch u2's original, but it's not like vanessa was trying to do that...she just wanted to record her own version. geez.

  • @TheDowntown86

thank lord someone has a brain

    :)

  • I also found this... 'Where the Streets Have No Name is more like the U2 of old than any of the other songs on the LP, because it's a sketch - I was just trying to sketch a location, maybe a spiritual location, maybe a romantic location. I was trying to sketch a feeling. I often feel very claustrophic in a city, a feeling of wanting to break out of that city and a feeling of wanting to go somewhere where the values of the city and the values of our society don't hold you down.'

  • @GuardaGuada :-) wow. thanks for the info. i loved the song even more. :-)

  • I found this bono quote "An interesting story that someone told me once is that in Belfast, by what street someone lives on you can tell not only their religion but tell how much money they’re making - literally by which side of the road they live on. You can almost tell what the people are earning by the name of the street they live on and what side ot that street they live on. That said something to me, and so I started writing about a place where the streets have no name...."

  • @Mripts5i You know, I heard this song was about urbanization ruining the environment... Lol

  • @GuardaGuada

The song was actually written by Bono in 1985. The song is about the honeymoon him and his wife Ali went on to Ethiopia that same year.

  • @BezerkoTheCow Really? I didn't know that. thanks!

  • @BezerkoTheCow sory to break it to u man but its actually about the troubles in northern ireland when street signs were taken down to confuse british soilders

  • does this song have anything to do with the book 'where the streets have no name'?

  • =) this is good!

  • I miss her sexy singing voice :D

  • <3

  • I think you shouldn't try to compare this with the original. Afterall everyone has their own style. So they're both great versions of a great song, just each in their own ways

  • U2 still does it better.

  • you can say that again......

  • From the Japanese version of Harmonium, according to the V.C. Wiki

  • That was beautiful. Is the accompiniment also done by the singer? She's really good! Who knew a U2 song could be translated to pop this well?

  • shes my inspiration :)

  • LOVE this. The piano is simply beautiful. Her voice is powerful and strong. Of course, the original is best, but this is great and unique. Her cover of Paint It Black is awesome too!!

  • Too bad that the YouTube version doesn't sound as good as the original. I highly recommend listening to the original or a higher quality version.

  • Now I realize how important is Bono's vocal tone. Without his very specific, emotion ridden vocal signature, the song loses a great deal of its philosophy and vibe.

Maybe that's why he's one of the greatest male performers ever, while Vanessa is a nice and quite talented girl, but only so.

  • no passion from singer - turned down into a silly pop song - ruined the song with background piano and vocals.

  • I'll have to admit, very nicely done by Vanessa! Not too many can cover a legend like U2. Very nice piano melody throughout.

  • If she did this song WITH U2 it would be even better. Vanessa would have to be less busy on the piano, and she would also have to let bono and the edge take the lead. However a live version of this song with Vanessa accompanying U2 would really cool IMO.

  • There can be only one...... U2

  • Love the instrumental work. Absolutely stunning. Shame about her voice. It's just too chirpy for this kind of song...

  • Pouaaah what a terrible hold up of a mythical song!!!!! SHUT UP

  • Comment removed

  • motherfucker bastard. Luckily it has little of idiots like you.

  • I like this version, but U2's is still the best.

  • Is there anywhere I can get this song?

  • love her songs

  • Personally I like the original a little more but this is a really good job and definitely does the song justice

  • the piano instrumental is really terrific, but the vocal does seem to have enough energy , ithink this intsrumental with christina aguliera voice would cause one to lose their socks.

  • I like the cover, but the passion and power in her singing is nowhere near what Bono can do on this song. Since she's a girl she doesn't have to put the same amount of effort to hit the notes as Bono needs to so it doesn't sound as strong vocally as on the U2 version. I think she would've gained some strength by increasing the pitch a little. :)

  • At first, I hated this because I'm a huge U2 fan, but hearing it the 2nd and 3rd time, it really grew on me. Vanessa is an amazing singer-songwriter! I wish we heard more from her! :D

  • I love you so much Vanessa ! <3

  • @Rocharox O obviously you don't know the first think about Vanessa Carlton! I am the mega fan, ask me anything and I know it! ;) but seriously Roch, if you don't have anything nice you want to say, get the HELL off! No one here wants to her you slander a beautifully voiced artist.

  • Love this cover when it was done by my favorite artists the Pet Shop Boys. Then I heard Vanessa Carlton redid it and I HAD to heat it!

  • I love what she did with the piano part, truly fantastic. vocals however...eh, i'm just not feelin it. but I mean, U2 is virtually impossible to cover. good effort though, vanessa!

  • seriously if anyone knows where i can get a free mp3 of this pleeeeaaase tell me i love this version!!! :D

  • Covers Sux.

    Make your damn songs woman

  • @rocharox Well, obviously you don't know the first thing about Vanessa Carlton, because she DOES write her own songs. I've only heard two covers from her. Geez, get some basic knowledge about an artist before you try to bash them.

  • @rocharox Dude, you are going to get slammed by Nessaholic fans everywhere with that comment!

  • Comment removed

  • @IloveSPIDERZ That alone will not stop me from showing my opinion.

Actually, It shouldn't stop anyone, Youtube its one of the few places where you can voice your opinion.(even if it means getting bashed)

  • @rocharox very true, but seriously she is one of the few artists that actually write their own songs and hers are really meaningful so yeah.......

  • @rocharox I didn't say you can't voice your opinion. haha I was just stating the obvious.

  • @IloveSPIDERZ No offence taken. 8)

  • @rocharox :)

  • Wow. I'm really impressed by this version.

The great thing about this song is that she didn't make it it more "poppy". She kept it true, and added her touch to it. Very nice Vanessa. Very nice indeed.

  • I'm an avid U2 listener...so I wouldn't normally like change...but I like this girl. ^_^

  • Great cover. The layers of piano are brilliant in this.

  • prefer this one over the u2 version o.o

  • Avril Lavigne ?... lol

  • jajajajaja que cajeta, a U2 lo que es de U2 y a vanessa lo que es de vanessa

  • Not bad at all. Still by no means better than the original (the song was MADE for the Edge's delay pedal, c'mon!), but it's still a great cover of one of the greatest songs of all time, and I'd give it another listen.

  • i love this song especially Vanessa version

  • questa canzone senza la chitarra di "The Edge" non andrebbe neanchè toccata...... ha senso solo con lui!!!

  • she did a nice cover, but c'mon.. its u2 ^^

  • We're trampled in dust! Love it.

  • Amamzing cover! I must admit, I don't usually like covers of any song, but this one is AWESOME!! You rock Vanessa! Keep it up! Shame we don't see much of you in France !

  • For the people doesn´t speak portuguese:

This girl goes far, so far as a pianist. .pay special attention the amazing accords she created on piano...marvelous....but as a singer.... just average...

  • Essa garota vai longe, muito longe como pianista... prestem atenção aos acordes que ela criou com o piano...lindo.... como cantora....bem, como cantora, apenas mediano.

    Belíssimos acordes de piano

  • I personally think this song is not as well understood by Vanessa. It's much more passionate when done by U2. Chris Tomlin's version is good too.

  • Meh, I love her piano playing in this, but nothing can beat the original :) This version is boring after a while...

  • cool

  • CHE CAGATA ALLUCINANTE!!

  • anyone know the name of the song by her on the chase manhattan bank commercial?

  • Not bad, but nothing can top that original sound that gives goosebumps every time.

  • Im all about free speech, but dont forgot its your opinion and others may not share it. Theres no need to forces your opinion onto others trying to convince them for w/e reason you may have. I think that I do speak on behave of all the nessaholics out there for crying out loud just mind your own bis and let us enjoy her music. If you dont like her fine! Leave it and go listen to your genre of music! Dont make a big fuse about your likes and dislikes that others might or might not share with you

  • Vanessa Carlton and U2 are completly different. if you don't like vanessa carlton, then why the hell are you watching this you morons?!?! she's amazing, so shut up

  • venessa isnt as good as U2, you idiots

  • AMAZING!!!!!

  • Puta merda, que horrível essa música pela Vanessa hahauaha. Mesmo a música sendo muito boa, ela deixou a música mto gay!

  • The problem is the lack of passion. When Bono sang this, he poured his heart into it and was really pushing. Vanessa Carlton is phoning this piece of shit in and added her brand of sugary pop goodness as the icing on top. Terrible, terrible performance, especially when stacked against the original. The piano at the beginning sounded great, so if she's playing that good job. Otherwise, I think she should invent a time machine and destroy the tapes of this.

  • amen, this is true

  • NO ONE can't put as much passion into a song as Bono does, in fact I believe u2 is the most passioned live show nowadays. I believe in God, and i am a Christian, and i don't mean Bono is God or whatever (not even near haha); BUT I truly believe that you can't go to a u2 show and remain unchanged, because of the passion and love the show is built up on. And OMG his version is crap!!!! There is no passion at all!!!

  • uhm w/e your religion has to do with this, I Don''t care tho, and to who are you referring to?

I quote "And OMG his version is crap!!!! " ?

  • It has to do that a lot of persons say bono is God, whatsoever, really haha they over do it. And i was referring to vnessas' what happened is that i was going to put THIS but the t went missing.

  • well about bono... I would have to agree with south park ;-)

  • no doubt he makes great music though

  • btw, nessa puts all her heart and soul into her music, unlike those 16-year old fake cup double d girls. you might not hear it tho that doesnt meen it isnt there ;-)

  • @ral003

    "passioned" is not a word.

  • @mrbunghole

she puts passion into it, but it rly comes down to her style being different to bono's. it's not a question of whose version is the best, cuz in this case there's really no radical difference apart from the piano. it's a question ofyour personal style.

by the way, i don't find any nessa fans verbally bashing bono, but somehow it turns out the other way round. bono fans seem overly agressive. it's really not cool. try to be composed when you criticise her.

  • will this be released? i mean its so beautiful!

  • rofl

  • i've never heard the U2 version. and i don't wanna do it, cuz i know vanessa's version is always the best. she always makes her best, that's one of the reasons that make me love her

  • This is the most ignorant thing I've ever read. The reason you don't want to listen to the original is because it's ten -- no, a fucking million -- times better than this drivel. There's more passion in my voice when I'm talking about paint than there is in her voice. Bono is likely laughing all the way to the bank for royalty purposes, but he's probably embarrassed to hell about this version. It's pathetic. There's no sincerity in her voice, because she hasn't a clue what the song is about.

  • @danokkkrock wow, you're probably an amazing singer. if you're not, you shouldn't be talking about vanessa's voice.

  • come off it, danokkkrock.............u guys think she doesn't put in as much "passion" vocally as bono does because her voice is not gravelly and raw, which is the voice type used for the original song. in reality she is probably full of passion for the meaning of this song, it's just that her voice has a very different effect on the ear than his. the bottom line is that she is NOT a man and so she can't achieve the same vocal effect---that does NOT make her devoid of passion or sincerity.

  • You think BONO has a gravelly and raw voice?

    I lol'd.

  • @Justice4AllOne

i lol'd...that is when i realised you must be deaf. just listen to his version of the song.

  • I have, only hundreds of times.

Bono's voice is HARDLY "raw" and "gravelly". That could be applied to plenty of other people, like James Hetfield, Anders Friden, Brian Johnson, Bon Scott, Ronnie James Dio, Axl Rose, and pretty much any good hard rock or heavy metal singer, excluding those with operatic styles, like Bruce Dickinson.

    But Bono? Hardly.

  • More than Vanessa anyway. I can't compare their voices in any way, they're almost opposite.

  • Right on, man *thumbs up*

  • amazing.......Vanessa i love you

  • god i love her so much!!

  • I love Vanessa and U2. I like the both versions...

  • I prefer u2 by a gazillion miles....

  • by a "thousand miles"...... lol jks

  • This is my favourite song...

it's even better than A thousand miles.

  • can anyone give me the mp3 for this please!!?!?!? it would be greatly appreciated!

    =)

  • bloody brilliant how she covered this one

  • Comment removed

  • Am I the only one who laughed at the "OF WHICH I AM A FAN" part of the angry man's post?

  • haha no but im guessing hes my teacher cause he loves U2. ahahaha i dont like him he has issues.

  • vanessa carlton kicks U2's ass.

  • Haha i knew i would get a copule of thumbs down, sorry i dont hate U2 its just that my teacher likes them and i dont like him........... lol.

  • mutilation??? are you deaf or something? This cover is amazing... listen to the piano... the voice, everything is amazing, I'm sure Bono loves it.... I could bet my ass on it...

  • I believe it to sound passionless.

  • this song from her is on the top for me.

  • I wish VC would have kept this song on her 2nd CD it's so awesome.

  • Great cover..wish there was piano music for it somewhere

  • vanessa owns at piano and her voice is gorgeous and U2 is just plain awesome

    case closed<3

  • anybody know where i can find the sheet music for this?

  • she's not anything like U2 but still a very good version!xxxshe's a great singer and piano player

  • And I quote:

"she's not anything like U2..." you got that right

  • Vanessa carlton is amazing! <3 it!!!

  • Vanessa Carlton, you're a Genius!!!

  • Btw no nameplate in ireland on the streets...I never know where I am...

  • i think she did a beautiful job with it and shes a geat piano player! i love it!

  • huh?what are you talking about?

  • who did it first?

  • U2 did

  • This isn't a band, smart one. It's a singer. What are you TALKING about?!

  • What am I talking about? Are you people completely ignorant? This is a cover of a U2 song- one of the most well known and classic of U2 songs from their definitive album, The Joshua Tree. This is the song that introduced U2 and their distinctive sound to the world.

    Morons...

  • i think CIRCA SURVIVE COULD REALLY DO A SWEET COVER....IN ANTHONEYS HIGHHHHHHH VOICE THAT IS.....

  • this is a cover

  • listen to that piano melody at the beginning....amazing....

  • this song is the best!! i luv it so much

  • Amazing song! I love it!

  • i think i heard that she was dating a pilot some where but don't trust me on that one.....i don't really like to follow up on thoes types of things. everyone should have their fair share of privicy.

  • Her father is an airline pilot.

  • She was dating her father?

  • WHAT? NO! haha

  • does anyone know if she is married? she is 28. not that 28 is old. I'm just curious.

  • i dont think she is, i know she used to be with stephen jenkins her producer but they split up some time back

  • no she's single

  • does anyone have the mp3 of this?

  • i like the piano part of this...but this isn't better than the original...i don't think it's supposed to be, it doesnt' matter...does she post her piano parts..or sell or w.e?

  • Do you mean do she play her own piano parts? Yes, she does.

  • no i mean, can you get the piano parts to her arrangment

  • I have no idea...

  • Stunning! I can't believe that I never heard this song until now. She is a wizard on that piano!!

  • i heard this song ages ago and loved it then. why wasnt it on an album?

  • this song is on harmonium ( if i remember correctly) buy its only on the japaneese version.

which i think is a bit poo, lol i like this song

  • this is a really good song, and vanessa sings it really well. i think this song says alot about humanity and what it's become, or was either written by some old drunk guy, but it's still very good and should be on the cd <3 <3

  • plagiarism¡¡Do your own songs posh american

    u2 rules¡¡

  • It's called a cover. People do them all the time to other songs. Really all songs before the Beatles were written by other people then who sang them. So its not actually that bad of a thing.
