In the 50cc class, id want a 2 stroke all day and every day. Twice the performance and less weight. Small/toned down 2 strokes can be just as reliable as 4 strokes. It usualy takes bout twice the displacement on a 4 stroke to battle with a 2 stroke. The down side is this; 4 strokes have tons a torque through it's power band. 2 strokes need to build RPMs to get on the pipe, they also consume twice as much fuel.
Example: look at the 250r and the 450r. Remember, 250r is 20 years old or so.
@alonsoboy3 Depends on what your doing with an engine to determine if it's better or not. If your mudding, 4 stroke all day, if your in the sand on a dirt bike, you better have a 2 stroke. If your racing, 2 stroke all day, if your working in your fields, 4 stroke for reliability.
If your are out to have just fun, 2 stroke with low gearing. New 4 strokes (450s) are just as reliable as 2 strokes. 2 strokes go through top ends when pushed hard. 450s eat vavles when pushed hard.
