i love tortoise because they are one of the few post-rock bands that i could either sit and listen to or go and skateboard or bike too. you can almost hear motion in the music.
whenever i hear this song it reminds me of surfing. specifically, paddling out through white water and breaking waves for the first minute and a half or so and then.... oooooweeee the glide begins.
my brother comitted suicide while listening to tortoise... hung himself in our dads garage. ( important to note that he was clinically depressed, and the fact that he liked tortoise played no part).
i like it, but listening can be hard sometimes ;(
@rwastk My brother hung himself too. I can relate, dude. But such great music. Beautiful pain, in a sense. I hope you feel better. I'm still dealing with it. Reach out if you like. Best, Mike
if you don't listen carefully, you can completely miss the 'funk and fire' dimensions of this song for the 'geriatric' dimension'. being an experienced tortoise listener, it took me awhile to figure out why anyone would hate this. now i can conjure myself listneing to this while watching antiques roadshow in a retirement community eating mashed bananas and incontinence pills. i think it's that organ line.
no its a sweet tune, something not seen on t4 sunday u fuckin pop munchin trend followin hollyoaks watchin wannabe qeer bastard bitchy fashi0n victim. 'pretentious'? jesus i mean if ur sayin this is pretentious? piss off and go listen to scouting for girls you fuckin socially automated sheep faggot

What does this space trip tells about the theme of the music ? Where is the old Seneca ? What about soicism ? Non me cuiquam mancipavi, nullius nomen feroas, as the stoicist said. Is that Tortoise's free music about freedom of thinking ? I don't understand...

Is this pretentious for the sake of being pretentious? or just being pretentious ironically?

Neither. It's just music that doesn't understimates its audience.

Great tune! The beginning reminds me a bit Neil Young's "Dead Man" soundtrack. Tortoise is playing on Analog festival in Dublin this July! I'm there!
