The creature is called a "Direhorse" and most of the walking creatures James cameron created do indead have 6 legs in that configuration, they also share the fact that they resemble in some form the earth creature they are based on so the direhorse looks alien yet horse "like" and sounds simuler. there is a documentery on pandora on youtube at /watch?v=GBGDmin_38E

for anyone intrested be aware the gas giant pandora orbits is fiction as well

@msjade20000 When James Cameron Made The Movie He Decided Most Of The Creaturesd Would Have 6 Limbs. ie. Direhorse, thanator, viperwolf, the leamer things at the start of the movie they all have 6 limbs and even the banshi does 4 wings, 2 legs.
