Brels version is much much more depressing. Condon livens it up, quite a bit. I enjoy it. And Zach worships Brel - he would never do anything to dishonor this wonderful song.
Just to let you all know, the song title is Le Moribond. Jacques Brel is absolutely stunning, and Zach's voice lends itself extremely well to his music. You'd be hard pressed to find someone other than Brel himself to do it better.

Aaahhh....this is too much like the origional to be anything more than a karioke.
It's one thing to be "inspired by" and quite another (and much lesser) thing to do a straight copy.
I don't get Beirut, they have all the ingredients I love in music yet I just find them bland.
If you want some good Brel inspired music that isn't just a straight copy, go have a look at the EP "S'amuser Comme De Fous" by The Bobby McGee's.
