  • I have a ton of artificial sinew can this be done with that or do you have to have bow string? And could I use the same sinew to serve the bow once I'm done? If not is there another method that works better with sinew? Thank you for all your videos they are REAL life savers!!

  • Dave, one more thing. Thanks for serving!

  • Dave, you are are very talented individual. I've see you make snow shoes, nets and more....now you made a Flemish Bow String? That is talent anyway you look at it!

  • thank you so much for this video,

I have been working on my first bow for a little bit and this was the icing on the cake, you explained it very well, thanks for another great video Dave

  • he sounds like dave canterbury

  • Thanks Dave

  • 6 people will survive only as long as there is a Wal-Mart.

  • I just made my first bow string, you rock.

  • Thanks very much for this, its great to know how to make a string with no jig and the minimum of special equipment. I took notes.

  • would the thread you used to serve the string need to be anything in particular? or was it just a spool of thread?

  • can you make a string out of rawhide?

  • @silverback2389 Nope. Its too stiff and not strong enough

  • This is the first time I saw your videos - Mate you rocks - very interesting

  • is it a good idea to put serving just below the loops?

  • could i use just reg twine to make a long bow string??? or do i need to use the the wax string

  • @jacobfolds2008 tot he best of my knowledge you can use twine as long as its combined weight is more than the draw weight of the bow.....if your using strands of twine that have a breaking rate of 10 pounds, you will need at least 5 strands to make a string for a 45 pound bow. Paracord works ok...but it stretches alot...bank line works good...with no stretch, but its hard on the fingers..artificial sinew works great...and it also waxed so its easy to work with. Hope that helps ya a little bro

  • I've been looking for this video for a while. I've never seen it before. I didn't know that you made one. It was very informative, and answered a lot of my questions.

    Thanks Dave. You're the greatest.

    Nick

  • Hey dave great video thanks for showing how to make bow string... would i be able to use this method on a crossbow. I don't know the weight of it, My nieghtbor gave it to me but it doesn't have a string on it and i don't know of any places near me were i could get some string for it. A friend told me about your videos and this one was very help full. Thanks again.

  • Hey man, after i saw and commented your video i imediately started making flemish string. I used flax and some cordage that i get in some fishing shop(didn't have dacron). It looks greeeeeeat and very strong, am not sure is this for bow over 55#. Your video is best on making flemish strings i ever saw and first time i know that i can make it, and i made it.Jigs, this, that...what a hell, it always set me on fire...there's no so much phylosophy if you have good teacher. Thanx & greets from Serbia

  • Thank you for the nice lesson. I appreciate it.5/5

  • is that a phone cord machete strap? cool

  • fastflight dosnt strech tht much

  • @TheBowboy1994 Fastflight streches about as much as linen, 1.5%. The reason fast flight tends to shoot faster is that it is very low mass = less air resistance.

  • Very nice!

  • Damn. All I can make is a sandwich.

  • what kind of sandwich?

  • Ham and cheese. I'm not advanced enough for tomato.

  • What kind of sting was that used in the serving of the string? Great vidieo Dave.

  • What would you use if you didn't have the string you brought out? Are there natural fibers or cordage that can be made to do the job?

  • sinew would be the favorite i think. and i am more than certain that anything you make that is string like and can hold tension well, will work.

  • I know its been said before but I'll say it again. You are the MAN. Damn!!!

  • Nice work. Thank you.

  • dude that was an awesome tutorial! where'd you get or buy the string?

  • i bought 2 ben pearson bows at the flea market for 5 bucks both missing the string . now if i can find the string i will make my own

  • Dave, you're a genius. I love you, man. I bought a $700 bow and never knew how to twist my string. Thanks.

  • Why do you carry a p22 and a 22 rifle?????

  • The .22 bullet is the perfect round for small game and survival. You can carry hundreds of rounds easily, the gun is usually light, and they are also easily suppressed.

Why he carries the P22? Probably because of it's light weight. But I personally don't trust it's reliability.

  • i can't speak for dave, but a side arm is a defensive wep, and the rifle is primarily for hunting.

its good to have a side arm, and a small cal rifle, so why not have them share ammo.

.22LR is one of my fav rounds, has great balistics, specially for its size/cost, and is pretty accurate

  • its for protection against the insects.

  • I didn't even know that was possible. How brilliant to carry premade bow strings instead of trying to figure it out when you in the mess of things. I just found your channel today and I have already watched every video. This kind of stuff has always been on my mind since I was a little kid. Unfortunately I never joined the military so I never learned any real subjects of survival like what you teach. Beyond my Uncles and Tom Brown, this is the first time I have learned this. You are Awesome!

  • Impossible. Thats like... 4days of video he has up...

But anyways, good to know you joined the brotherhood.

  • There must be more videos that I am not aware of. I want to buy his DVD's and study everything.

  • Go on his channle he has some 600 or so vids.

    Amazing stuff.

  • Definately - I will do that. You can never learn too much.

  • Touché to that.

  • Your not going to believe this, But I bought a Bear long bow at garage sale for 20 bucks this morning and it needs to be restrung... I was just going to head to Cabalas and buy one, but now you have me fired up on building one. I might lose an eye, but I'm going for it.

  • thanks for the email dave your such a good soul god bless and may he make you to always stay in pease

  • Great video Dave

  • David your left handed and you shoot bow right handed, and from what i remember your right eye dominant which in the case of a bow would make sense shooting right handed. Although you shoot a pistol left handed. dose that pose you to make any adjustments. just wondering

  • No because when you shoot a gun you close one eye so dominacy does not matter.

  • Fantastic video Dave! Loved it. Very good skill to have in your survival toolbox. Btw, it takes a bit of practice, but you should try to learn to shoot with both eyes open. In either hunting, or self defense situations, you will track moving targets/quarry much faster. Thanks for all the hard work, we really appreciate it!!!

  • @wildernessoutfitters When you close one eye..your depth of perception

is distorted.. Keep both eyes open and things work better..

  • @wildernessoutfitters would closing one eye be traditional? i dont and my last record was 99 out of 100 shots. I'll admit here and now my mother taught me to shoot...... she got 101 out of 100. bullet bounced and hit the other can. reason she had to teach me was my father was never around.

  • @kaldicuct u'r doing what's called instinctive shooting and is normally for shotgun and CQ. If you can keep on target at longer range that way then all the better but its unlikely.

  • @Xarcas yeah, i have no shame in my game when im shooting. the last time i went long range shooting i had 98/100, but the wind wasnt blowing and i wouldnt call it expert sniping either. But it would suffice for hunting at the very least.

  • @kaldicuct Some are taught to keep both eyes open and use the dominant. Benefits include situational awareness and not messing with your night vision.

  • @mryellow123 I see in the dark, acute infared. nothing like a rattlesnake, its sorta like Riddick from pitch black, but grey. so i dont think thatll be an issue.

  • @kaldicuct Interesting, had heard of people with more UV spectrum but not so much IR. Your pupils still dilate though right?

  • @mryellow123 it takes the average person like 45 min to get their night vision last i read about it, takes me about 5 or 10. i dunno if its really IR but its sorta like those night vision scopes on the hunting channel, those green tinted ones. only grey and a bit darker. but yes my eyes dilate.

  • @kaldicuct long as your pupils are moving, closing an eye will have an effect but yeah sounds like yours are pretty responsive. Don't know the exact details but there is the whole "cones and rods" cells, I believe the black/white ones (rods) are more sensitive, maybe you have more then "most" people. There is also the micro-movements of the eye which spread the light over a bunch of cells, while the brain then holds the image in place, which is why we can see things which aren't moving.

  • @kaldicuct oh and I had it backwards... not so much night vision, as being stunned by the brightness when your closed eye opens into full daylight.

  • @mryellow123 correct, you gotta warn me before taking a pic, otherwise i fly backwards like a gremlin :P

  • @mryellow123 sorry i didnt get back to you, didnt see your comment in my inbox. I would pretty much be screwed, last time someone snapped my picture, i flew backwards like a gremlin. I could only imagine what would happen if i had my full on night vision and something like that happened. I dont care to find out either.

  • Wow Dave, that's the first time I've seen you with a sidearm. My fear that you were just a Fudd has been laid to rest ;)

  • AWESOME THANKS DAVE

  • Very, very useful...as you always do.

    Thanks

  • Good job Bro..

Easy to understand tutorial! Thanks for taking the time to do this..

  • awsome vid dave, would you use the same number of artaficial sinew strands

    as regular string?

  • dave what bow do you suggest for a beginner

  • Long Bow-Fred Bear Montanna

    Recurve-Martin XD 200

  • @wildernessoutfitters wat pound draw would u suggest for the fred montanna longbow

  • I had never seen anyone make a bow string before. Thanks!!!

  • thats Great Dave I've had a paracord string on my self bow for over a year now, all I need to do is find that string! thanks for the video

  • great stuff dave, been meaning to get a spare string, now i think i will make my self one.

    good luck bud

  • Well your luck, I'm all messed up... I shoot long arms, write, spoons, forks, toothbush etc. all left handed.

But I'm right handed when shooting handguns and bow, knife, scissors.

It used to drive me insain every time in elementry school the teachers would give me lefty scissors. I'm scarred for life... :)

  • Great! Dave, what about some serving around the loops? Can it be done without a jig?

  • You dont need that on a flemish string cut you can do them the same.

  • Thanks for the info! Hope you'll make more archery videos when you have the time. Best wishes!

  • where can I pick up the string you were using?

  • Local Archery Shops should have it, if not Contact Rob my S/R Manager and we will get you some.

  • Ok Nice video dave !

  • first rater 5/5 great video
