There seems to be a misconception in the comments (and with people in general) that the main motive was religion. While this was a part the main reason for divide is and was political. There were a lot of predominant Irish Nationalists who were also Protestant.

While this doesn't fully explain the history of the island of Ireland (although it would probably take a lot longer than a 10 minute video) and the formation of Northern Ireland (+Troubles) I think it's a decent summary.

Óglaigh na hÉireann has also been used by the PIRA. IDF have never been called Irish Republican Army.
