i work in maintainance as a mechanic. i think you cant film the waste centres because they are government property like you cant film parliament house
Yer you're right, you can't film WSN's facilities... dunno exactly why, but I heard it may be something to do with keeping their operations private or something. I still try to get something to put up here though.
Yeh must be to do with the government, because I haven't been stopped from filming at other places. Not sure what the station was, wasn't paying attention to be honest =]
yeah, must be the government. the transfer station over here (in Idaho, USA) has signs that ask for you to not take pictures or to fill the transfer station, but with as busy as the one is here i think it's more of a safety issue then anything.
I will tell you one thing i work for the company that makes that loader ( but over in WA ) in there and theres nothing worse then working on a landfill loader they stink sooo bad we cant wait to get rid of them, the garbage sticks to everything
Awesome snag, looked like quite a few cement trucks were around too lol. I'm assuming all the trailers and everything down below were transfer trailers...Looked pretty small, are they loaded via some sort of compactor? Then I'd imagine they'd have ejectors to empty? Also, what kind of RL was that at 3:04?
I was able to grab a little transfer station video around here last week, although not as impressive as this...I'll tell you more in my next email (as soon as I get there ;)
Yep, they were all the haulers down the bottom, and yes they are pretty small... pretty sure they're that size because they're B-doubles - anything bigger and I reckon they'll have the RTA on their tail. There are also the standard compactor semi's that you'll find operating out of other transfer stations, and then there's the ones used for transferring recycling which are pretty massive, because of the loose loading...
The compactors in this video are tip-to-dump (you can make out the extension which houses the hydraulics at the front of the container section), the other compactors are full-eject and I believe the massive ones used for recycling are walking-floors. I'll send some pictures that I have...
With that RL at 3:04, it's a Compaction Systems, just one of their smaller bodies. It works for the City of Sydney, think it does the really tight laneways - would like to find it next time I'm there.
Thanks for the answers, seems like if something's loaded with a compactor, it'd be emptied with an ejector of some sort or at least the walking floor rather than being tipped. Do they have many problems getting loads out of these at the landfill?
I believe only two of the many transfer stations around Sydney use these trailer systems, the rest are all eject / walking floor. I don't think there'd be much of a problem unloading these, would likely just slide out easily - maybe with a bit of rocking the truck on the rare occasion.

Whereabouts do you work for them, a transfer station or in a truck or something?
There is one question I've always searched for to be answered; why doesn't WSN allow filming at their waste management facilities?

That is an impressive operation where do the full out bound trailers go?

I'm pretty sure from this transfer station, all the waste is taken to the Eastern Creek landfill.
