  • Cool ! Love It !

  • Awesome just the preset from the CS-80 alone has given me some great inspiration!!! AWESOME!!!

  • great job, and cheers on your beautiful gear.

  • Yes i love the cs80, makes the roland jupiter 8 look like a casio lol

  • very cool!

  • This reminds me of some Marty Davich stuff on Days in the 80s. I LOVE it

  • fansatic sound love vangelis ,the cs-80 is a one off synth could listen to this all day :)

  • Thanks, great stuff ...

  • Beeautiful and huge synth!! Really interesting sounds. 5/5!!

  • I am so unbelievably jealous of your prophet t8. Not to mention all your other crazy synths.

  • @ConradMcGrigglepuff ... no need to be jealous :) I spent a lot of time to restore them beasts :) . But yeah I agree it is pretty crazy stuff

  • @cnightwing Haha, crazy stuff is an understatement. I think I have the right to be jealous, I'd have to sell my soul to afford all your gear. Great video, though.

  • you just have the synth of my dreams,cs80,

Thanks for sharing Parabens from Portugal.

  • Hello, i have a CS80 YAMAHA as from my granfather, SPAIN, it is 100% ok and runining, he bought 1979, we self it, if somebody want a amazing CS80 100% running mail me please manolobarry@yahoo.es... it will be soon in ebay as well. The person who want to buy it, should came to spain to check and pick up it. REALLY is amazing Instrument..

  • Great synths, shame the sound is so terrible on your videos. Kind of pointless. Try to learn how to patch the sound in direct.

  • @panfart ... totally agree with you .. sorry for the sound

  • @cnightwing Perhaps the poor video quality makes this feel just as nostalgic as the synths..like your coming straight out of the 70's. Very much like the Vangelis CS-80 video. ;)

  • the cs80 is the BEST synth made ever,,, dont forget

  • can the prophet 600 do basses? Is the pro one better for leads and basses?

  • @freezazoid I don't own either, but from listening, the prophet can do some nice bass pads or strings, but the pro-one destroys the 600 for that nice punchy bass. The pro-one has much quicker (analog) envellopes compared to the 600's kind of sloppy (digital) envellopes.

  • thumbs up!!

  • Excellent !!!

  • shame Yamaha couldn't produce a CS-80 for the 2000's , most synth's now by most manufactures are rubbish.

  • Nice... ages without hearing something that disconected me.

  • Good Work m8.. You cathed the Vangelis feeling

  • really great... very ethereal ambient :)

  • MAN, what a nice collection. The CS80 is #1 on my wish list but I can't see ever being able to get one, too rare, too expensive but GOOD GOD what an amazing synth. As much as I like Vangelis, I usually think first of the amazing Eddie Jobson and his work with UK.

So (I have to ask), have you heard the Arturia plug and what do you think of it? I'm old enough to know that no software is going to match the discreet, vintage hardware of a real CS80, but is it worth checking out?

  • this sounds to me like the blade runner soundtrack (the same keyboard)

  • hi nice theme, i become jealous when i see your equipment

  • I agree...I think it's not a good way to move the beast every time it doesn't speak...A good mainteinance follows a complete restoration...So my powerful CS-80 in front of me and my lovely VP-330 on the left side...

  • Ohh no ! The technician needs to come to your place otherwise all the little potis inside the voices are off and you can start calibrating the synth all over again. You will hear the tuning will be off . Which can be tuned pretty easily , though. This synth really needs constant attention :) but it pays off. So you better become a techie :) !

  • Thanks for your help...the story of my CS-80 is: death-resurrection-death-resurrection...and so on...I'll call my technician next days and I'm sure he'll say "Oh no, again!"

  • Well, if you don't want the cycle and you're good with a soldering iron ... I would suggest replacing all the 4000 CMOS chips, adding bypass capacitors, and systematically replacing all capacitors starting with the Power Supply . The last thing you want is that the hard to get custom chips get blown .

All CS-80's are almost 38 or 37 years old... and need a complete overhaul.

  • Comment removed

  • 31 or 32 years... my bad

  • @slammah2012 ohh yeah it's 30 to 33 years to be exact

  • Mine CS-80 is dead...last week...

  • No CS-80 can be laying around dead . Contact me offline via mail. I can help you.

  • Dammit I want to fly to Mars hearing this...........

  • @gavincurtis

And OOPS for trading away your CS-80...

  • Hahahahahahahahah :) ... you're funny :) ...hahahaha

  • Dude! The CS-80 gave me chills when you used the Ring Modulator effect. Love this sound.

  • Thank you my friend... "chills" isn't that the idea :) of playing this synth.

  • ill bet you will regret trading this beast in,

  • Hey, nice vid, nice ambient feel. I'm just getting into synths and would like to get one of the CS range, probably a 10, but anyway, the front panel on the Cs5/10/30 looks completely different to the front panel of your CS 80, why is that? Thanks.

  • Because they are all different Synthesizers with different features . So they have different layouts , sizes and architecture . Think of cars as a comparison with different options.

  • Your piece is quite impressive, as is your collection of synths, of course.

  • Thanks a lot !

  • damn you gotta be rich you own some of the most sought after synths

  • Rich ... no way ! Just have been collecting and restoring for years :) ... the CS-80 I 've traded in for a Roland JD-800 and a Access Virus. She was totally mute and learned to sing again after a three month period technical total overhaul .

  • well anyways extremely nice collection you have there

ill never be able to own any of them though except maybe the prophet 600

  • @Laura041974 ... hmm interesting stuff you have some sort of an address from them ?

@butheadVSbevus ... yep they are good to have :)

    @liecron ... thanks

  • awsome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • two synths I must have before I die the cs 80 and andromeda a6

  • This is sonic porno

  • Join Our Team!! We are an international Band, consisting of always changing members, striving for perfection and some releases!! Right now there is a guitarist and electronic musician from south france, a taltented singer from washington (state) and me, putting all stuff together, adding expensive reberb etc and also composing and rearranging from hamburg, germany, man just join in, we could use your synth sounds :) I added you as a friend just now

  • Brilliant! Wonderful sounds! These instruments are wonderful to play, so expressive. It's like playing an acoustic instrument- I have got one of these. I get offers to sell it almost on a monthly basis but I won't! Keep it up!

  • What is the top offer thus far? I wouldn't sell it, they are party of history and to own something so rare is quite an achievement. Don't sell your kids and grand kids will be like WTF. :O

  • High thousands- £7000+. It is in good nick and complete and original, and a late serial number with the more stable oscillators so it could fetch even more, but as I said- I'm keeping it! ;-))

  • wish i had that equipment! great sounds there. I wonder what a cs 80 cost nowadays

  • I would buy your music, awesome job!!

  • Thank you so much ... perhaps I should put something together and release it .

  • This is very good stuff indeed! Well done.

  • Thank you so much ikazlar.

  • You should record a full length CD with that kind of ipmrovisations, those are really interesting

  • Thanks , I was thinking that too but the question is who would distribute this kind of music these days?

I mean where would you categorize it ? Who would be the target listeners ?

  • Create a myspace profile and share your music. I would be glad to visit it

  • I have a few myspace pages there are as follows: the url for myspace and then /csabazvekan

    and /warpdrive plus /killingmachineusa .

I am writing it this way since I can't post urls in the posts.

  • @cnightwing Have you thought of sending this up to the BBC? They used a Yamaha CS80 in the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. This was an in house group of compsers who used synths to make music and sound effects needed for TV and radio. Since it was closed down in the 90s music now comes from special commissions. You never know your luck.

  • One word dude: unbelievincrediblenormouslymagical :) 5"""""

  • Hello Csaba,

Lovely and well done. Please see my email I sent you as well. Warm Regards and hope to hear from you,

    Marais De Cygnes

  • absolutly awesome 5*

  • thank you , I am glad you liked it. Thanks for the rating !

  • Great! I've been looking around like crazy for this kind of music. Are there any other artists besides Vangelis who use this sound? (And I don't mean the instrument, but the melodies themselves)

  • Thanks luisjoseromero,

I haven't heard anybody who's working in that direction. But by just playing the CS-80 I think people immediately associate Vangelis with the sound.

Besides musicians don't want to copy cat "the maestro" too much . If you know what I mean.

    Regards

    Csaba

  • Yes indeed it's a wonderful instrument and so full of expression. Roland Junos are nice too. Thanks

  • The cs 80 is a beautiful machine! I am highly tempted to get a synthesiser: I would probably get a Roland Juno G. However the sound the cs 80 produces is so unique. Bravo!

  • Yes , and a Memorymoog Plus, and Prophet 600 on top of it. You should see the other side of the wing: PPG Wave, Elka Synthex , Oberheim Expander, Chroma Polaris , Roland Juno 106 etc. all the old goodies. :)

  • wow you own a T8 .. I am a big fan of prophet 5 ... wow ... and you own the fat cs 80 ship .. keep it ..

  • Hi

Thanks for sharing Awsome film score track.

I think the CS80 in particular provokes the best emotions from it's lead sounds.

I wish film produces/composes would start using these scores again - truely amazing! :-)

  • Thanks a lot for you comment. I agree I wish there would be composers that are more into making the scores with Synthesizers especially with the CS-80.

  • CS-80V sounds nothing like the CS-80, and it is a pity in facts, and for a series of reasons in terms of faithfulness....if only they followed the users they could have ended up with a fabulous instrument, but seems not...Hey Csaba, the baby seems well tuned, did you have tuning problems lately? do you leave it warming up enough? BTW here even the WS feels very CS-80ish...you're infected by the CS virus, man!

  • wow men Ilike your sound, wat do yuo tihink about the virtual CS80?

  • I think the two can't even be compared except for the fact that the plug in's GUI looks kind of like the YAMAHA CS-80.

The sound comes no way near anything CS-80 like . I am sorry fun plug in but not a YAMAHA CS-80 ... not even near.

  • me a encantado la cancion, es muy bonita.

    en horabuena!!!

  • Hey, Csaba it seems that you play ELECTRIC PIANO+BASS as a lead, strange, maybe it is the audio quality which is not fantastic, but it feels like a layer of the two GUITAR presets, nice choice anyway, do you like the ring modulator?

  • Hi omissis75 , I was trying to imitate a Vangelis like mood . Kind of like the soundtrack from "The Bounty" . Yes the first line seems to be a hypnotic bass line nothing special. And then some brass pads. And I play the lead /improvisation live as I go. I like thew ring modulator it's an awesome effect. :)

  • ole ole ole!!!!

  • Gracias , Juan :)

  • Absolutely gorgeous music there Csaba. Great job.

Beautiful studio you've built up there too.

  • Thank you . If you need some Film / Scores you just let me know.

  • Dude, I am interested in film scores lol.

Especially electronic film scores, they bring the movie to a whole different level of emotion.

  • Well, that's what I am saying . You provide me with the story and I can try to make some music for it. :)

Feel free to contact me with a private mail.

  • Thanks module19,

I am using the Lexicon 224XL "Concert Hall" preset with a 12 second Mid RT and 7 second Low RT.

I know for fact that Vangelis is using the 224 as well or he used to. I'm not sure about the preset but he likes a very long Hall decay.:)

  • Most Excellent. Really has the Vangelis feel and mood to it. Great CS prograaming also. What reverb are you using?

  • great job, love the CS-80

  • Waiting for a nice jam with ring modulator, go Beaubourgish!

  • Amazing! A wonderful piece, hauntingly beautiful. I am sooooo jealous of your CS80 and other gear, more videos like this please...!

  • Don't be jealous . They are a lot to maintain, believe me.

I will make some more stuff. I like your videos too though haven't checked them all out yet.

    :)

  • i'm also jealous ,there is a software version of this synth from arturia but what a heart this one (hardware) is 1 billion times better than the softsynth version.

  • just awesome sounds.

I wish composers today would use more synths in soundtrack music. they sound so much more expressive than most generic orchestras we get today.

  • I totally agree with you on that one. Sometimes great orchestras are just too much and overload the movie.

    Sometimes less is more :)

    Thanks for you comment !

  • I agree with you 1000% there Mugabesunny. It's a real shame that a bias has turned against synths, or equated them with techno music, and scores today almost all lean safely towards mock orchestraion that all sounds the same. :-(

  • Yes, This is so true. There are very few mainstream composers that really know how to use synths for film scores or any real expressive playing for that matter. The younger generation of players also seems to only want to use synths for grooves and up tempo "beat box music" . I miss the days where the synth was played as the expressive and creative instrument is is capable of being. And I agree that film scores these days all seem to sound the same, canned orchestra and cymbal crashes....

  • Yamaha CS-80 or: how to make love with a synthesizer.

    The Stradivarius of electronic instruments!

    5/5!!!

  • Hahahahaha ...ok ...lol exactly :)

  • Excellent track!! CS-80 is the best synth ever!

  • Thank you so much !

  • Thanks Retrosound,Thanks for the rating ;if you need some parts for your CS-80 beast let me know.

  • Thanks again Csaba! The second improvisation is much better than the first! I love the CS-80 ring modulator sound... When I listen your music it seems that I am floating on air ... impressive! Greetings from Spain! 5 stars!!!

  • Thank you Solaris you got me totally going there .... Allthough it was not with the Oberheim it still turned out pretty good I think.

  • Sounds good. Would sound better if recorded direct rather than camera mic.

  • Yeah , excellent Idea but I have to get some sort of a setup so I can just do all that . Hmm but how ?

  • I run a cable from the mixer to the camera mic input jack.

  • Very nice!

    5*****

  • Thank you so much for the 5 Stars !
